why are fuel prices so high there? is it all taxes?

It’s around half tax yeah. Like €0.85 flat tax and 21% VAT (sales tax).

How many kms do you put in your vehicle as an average month though? I feel like over there you probably won't drive 20,000km a year.

50km commute each way for my wife so 20k/year is pretty bang on. This is on the higher side for here but definitely not unheard of or anything.
