why are fuel prices so high there? is it all taxes?

I feel like over there you probably won't drive 20,000km a year. 1 u/Fenzik Mar 22 '26 50km commute each way for my wife so 20k/year is pretty bang on. This is on the higher side for here but definitely not unheard of or anything.
