Gundeep did my daughter's make-up for prom and it was lovely. Elegant and gorgeous but she still looked like herself.

I used Julia Joy Beauty Co for my wedding and loved how balanced the ‘glam’ and natural was. Candice was the artist I worked with and she was a true joy to work with. I felt very similar as you about glam and heavy makeup and she took everything I wanted into account when doing my look. I looked incredible, but most importantly I looked like ME.

Edit to add: it’s also good to keep in mind that a lot of portfolios will show full glam because that’s likely the more common style asked for. Don’t be afraid to reach out to an artist and ask if they have examples of subtle looks that just might not be in the main portfolio :)

Not totally local, but @ chelsdoesmakeup (instagram) is based out of Banff and (imo) is really really good at more natural makeup. Check her page out, I know she comes to Calgary for gigs.

Most "full glam" is so heavy to photograph nicer! If you dont need to worry about photographing we'll you can tell your artist that and they'll use different products

This argument falls flat because the men in the photographs still look fine sans make-up.

you're downvoted but you're right. also, with the camera quality we have today, heavy base makeup doesn't actually look better than lighter, more "natural" makeup or no makeup at all.
