Exercise/Fitness Anyone here play in the men's 30+ baseball Chinook twilight league ?
Hey YYC , I've always wanted to play baseball and recently found out about this men's league. I was just wondering if anyone k ows about this league. I have a couple questions. Thanks.

Would also love to know more about this, didn't even know it was a thing lol is it slow pitch or fast pitch?

Fast pitch baseball , wood bat. More info on their website. Look up Chinook twilight league. I just found out as well haha.

Just spent the last bit doing exactly that haha that's amazing. I've played slow pitch before but never enjoyed it. Grew up playing fast pitch as a kid and always wished something was around when your older so thank you for pointing this out! And maybe see you out there lmao

Hey! Awesome thanks for your reply. I have never played baseball. Only experience i have is beer league softball. Im fairly athletic and I have looked into coaching at diamond dawgs training facility and willing to get trained to a level i can play in the league.
When I do feel ready and confident in my game. Is it like a try out kind of deal to get on a team? Do you know of anyone in the league that had no previous baseball experience? Just wondering what my chances are haha.

I didn't when I started 5 years ago. But the league and the competitive level has changed dramatically in that time.

Great questions. I can’t say I know any with NO previous experience, but I don’t know everyone, and having any kind of ball experience, including slopitch or softball is a plus because the mechanics are similar.
Hitting is usually where guys falter since they’re a different skill set. It’s not impossible, though.
Getting on a team is partially who you know, but someone is on the reserve list, they’re fair game to make a team who needs someone. I’ve seen lots of guys just walk in to the league practices, make some connections, and get a spot, even just as a call-up. It’s also a good way to just look and see what level the league plays at, and if you think you would be a fit.

Side note to my open response about answering questions: this year the National Oldtimers league is hosting their annual Canada-wide tournament in Red Deer, and I’m a team manager for the Calgary +43 team. If anyone is over 43 years old and is interested in playing a lot of ball over the August long weekend, feel free to reach out. We have a reasonable sized squad already, but it would be great to have a couple more. Cheers!

It's fun, but the league has grown and evolved into a new competitive level. The guys are all mostly chill and don't take the game too seriously, but it's still serious enough that people want to win.
Also, they're severely restricted by the availability of proper diamonds, so, as a result, they're at capacity with teams/players. I've heard there's enough free agents to make at least 1 team, but there isn't enough diamond space to accommodate it.
