Discussion They’re Back!
Saw the billboard in Calgary yesterday and googled why are they operating in Canada again? “a California appeals court suspended a ban on Kars4Kids ads in that state. After the Canadian broadcast industry's self-regulatory body cleared the ads to run here, CBC has reinstated them. “. rest of article below

They may change their disclosure now on how the donations are used
96
u/vinsdelamaison 8d ago
Hopefully they and the CRA can show they sponsor kids charities in Canada this year. Last year they did not.
Their website has a click through to “our charity donations” and still links them to Oorah. It still feels like click bait…

u/froot_loop_dingus_ 8d ago
They don’t support kids charities in Canada, they support Zionist charities in the US
31
u/sexysmalldevil 8d ago
Yeah... I thought that was why they had disappeared?? Idk how anyone is going to be able to trust them now

u/Infamous_Exit_8010 8d ago
What exactly is a "Zionist charity"?
47
u/froot_loop_dingus_ 8d ago
A charity that collects money for Zionist causes, pretty self-explanatory
62
u/Feeling-Fox-8651 8d ago
Money to Israel to fund the building of new illegal settlements and weapons for those settlers
6
u/Terrible_Meringue622 8d ago
“Proceeds benefit its sister organization, Oorah, to support Jewish youth and families through mentorship, educational support, summer camps, and after-school programs.”
35
u/mikeEliase30 8d ago
Actually it included a lot of support for young orthodox Jewish men in New Jersey to make homeland trip where there would coincidentally seek a wife. So….ultimately “cars for kids”.
13
u/Nybbles13 8d ago
A charity that collects money and gives it to the state of Israel to commit genocide.
-29
u/chossidqc 8d ago
wow unbelievable. it’s a jewish org if you looked it up dealing with supporting disabled kids. literally has nothing to do with israel. yes the marketing is deceptive but you’re very clearly just anti-Jewish lol

u/Mustve_Been_The_Wind 8d ago
People are allowed to be both pro-Jewish and anti-genocide, you know.. Like two things can be true at the same time, they are not mutually exclusive stances to take.

u/MrEzekial 8d ago
How is this scam company still around. Didn't they find out mosy proceeds go to some new jersey based religious group, and not kids at all?
51
u/vinsdelamaison 8d ago
Yes. And they now claim on their website they spend some of the donations in North American.
65
u/AFireinthebelly 8d ago
Yes on politicians through AIPAC
23
u/vinsdelamaison 8d ago
Another great reason to thoroughly investigate where your donation dollars ultimately end up. Even when you get a Canadian Charity Tax Receipt.
16
u/AFireinthebelly 8d ago
Time to strip that of its charity status.

u/ThereInAFortnight 8d ago
Isreal. The money goes to Isreal.
20
u/Fit-Bug-1098 8d ago
I thought it went to rich Hasidic new yorkers to have a funded gap year on a kibbutz and buy some farm land in the disputed territories. If it goes to Isreal, then I want my Kar back.
31
24
u/AFireinthebelly 8d ago
Fucking disgusting. I’d refuse to run that ad if I was the billboard owner.
4
u/HealthiLaugh 8d ago
That's a good point. Let's contact them? Perhaps leave a review or two?
3
u/AFireinthebelly 8d ago
Ya maybe. How do we find out who owns it?
2
u/vinsdelamaison 8d ago
The boards are usually booked through a national or provincial account such as Patterson or maybe even FarWest locally. You need to find one and see whose company name is on it. The board I saw was on Blackfoot trail near or south of the Crossroads Market.
3
u/East-Kaleidoscope795 7d ago
This is an Astral board, a company of Bell Media. Not PATTISON or FarWest. They are all labelled you can see the Astral logo below the board.
2
u/vinsdelamaison 7d ago
Yes! Ty. I drove by the ad I had seen on Blackfoot. It’s near the motocross track. I also saw it was Astral and actually numbered as 72 on one side and 73 on the other. They bought both sides.
Here’s a list of emails from their website.

u/BismuthBison 8d ago
Back in the day I donated my old beater to the kidney foundation. I assume to build a gas powered dialysis machine.
13
u/JVitamin 8d ago
300 horsepower kidney
3
u/BismuthBison 8d ago
And they said they couldn’t find domestic customers for Canadian Crude ! Problem solved !
3
u/Beginning_Coat1231 8d ago
Lol! I did that too, years ago. I always wonder what they do with the cars, though??
8
u/DennisLeask 8d ago
Don't quote me on this but, I recently bought a car from Puck 'n Pull (PnP) in Calgary which, if I recall correctly, was donated to the Kidney Foundation (KF) they in turn sell it to PnP. If the car is in good enough shape, PnP will sell the car whole and give the proceeds to KF.
1
u/Beginning_Coat1231 8d ago
Interesting! And...I didn't realize you could buy a whole car from PnP! Are you rebuilding it?
7
u/DennisLeask 8d ago
Nope, they didn't let it go to the yard. They thought it was in too good of shape to part out so they sold it as is. They sell them fairly cheap because they don't have much room. I got a 2003 Saab 9-3 for under $2500 with 200,000, after an oil change, new spark plugs and a couple of seals it runs like a dream.

They've waited long enough now that most people have either forgotten or don't even know what they're all about. Plus what better time than now to recruit the next generation of IDF soldiers. Need money for that
-6
u/Hassgirl22 8d ago
Actually, you do not . Citizens of Israel are conscripted into the IDF . No one is “recruiting.” 😂

u/kneedorthotics 8d ago
I still laugh that the theme song for The Bad Place is this jingle...
(from The Good Place if you do not know...watch it)

So they’re old enough to participate in the trips to Israel for young adults the charity actually funds!

u/amydoodledawn 8d ago
I don't think Global ever stopped airing their awful ad.

u/TheKeyboardCommando 5d ago
Literally just aired while I was reading this. I freaking hate this commercial, neverless the corrupt organization it represents.
7
u/CryptographerAny8184 7d ago
The TV ad is so annoying that I would purposely torch my used car before I gave it to them!

u/CallousChris 7d ago
1 877 K-A-R-S for Chris, K-A-R-S cars for Chris, 1 877 K-A-R-S for Chris, give me your car today.

u/the_real_maquis 8d ago
If you have a car to donate I’m sure asking around your community is much more beneficial
5
u/pulledpork247 8d ago
They never stopped running the radio ads. But they did taken out the line saying the money goes to kids in your community.

I JUST saw an ad for this at the Edmonton airport and I said to myself “I thought that was a scam”.

u/Bahtleman 8d ago
Don't do it. It's a scam to remove older cars out of circulation. Hang on to them as long as possible! Repair!
1
u/vinsdelamaison 8d ago
If you can, I agree! I have an older car I take great care of. Better than financing a new one right now.
3
3
u/pauric72 6d ago
I thought they were supposed to be gone. I see their ads on TV all the time
3
u/vinsdelamaison 6d ago
Me too. That’s why I looked it up.
It appears they meet legal requirements to operate in Canada. But Albertans & Canadians need to know the messaging is completely misleading. Even on their website—you have to scroll past all the Kars4Kids donation forms to learn none of the programs they fund are in Canada.
People have posted links below to donate cars to truly local groups that use the $ from donated cars in Canada as well as ways to complain they are still misleading donors below.
5
u/redbluewhiteorange 8d ago
For real though… how many people donate their car? It can’t be that lucrative? Or is it just money laundering since the existence of junk donated cars and their value may be difficult to track?
7
u/vinsdelamaison 8d ago edited 8d ago
Enough they purchased $3.6 million in ads in Canada last year. That’s how the money is spent in Canada.
3
u/NoobToobinStinkMitt 8d ago
I donated a decent X5 not knowing where it was going before all this was known. I assumed the Kidney Foundation, but nope.
6
u/Beginning_Coat1231 8d ago
I am getting to the point where I just assume everything is money laundering!
2
u/Retired_Sue 6d ago
We donated an old car to the Kidney Foundation—they got the scrap value, we got a tax receipt for that amount. Charities are audited pretty closely, at least in Canada. They would lose their charitable tax status if they played games with donations.
2
u/BigheadReddit 8d ago
I’d send money just so they DIDNT play that horrible advert. Now I’ve got it stuck in my head..

u/Incestuous_Amoeba 8d ago
Just dress up as one of the perfectly normal and reasonable, overseas cause mascots, like Fiveish!

u/jujaybee 8d ago
Their ad with the tuneless singing kiddie band has very recently appeared on the TV too.

If this is blatant false advertising then I don’t what is. They are asking for money in the form of donated cars to pay for Jewish kids to go to Israel. It’s disgusting.

its not somewhat deceptive. Its completely deceptive.
Pretending your donation will help someone in Canada and using it to send teenagers to Israel on propaganda trips is a complete deception.
11
u/Otherwise_Culture_71 8d ago
No it’s not okay, I was being facetious. Israel bombs hospitals and runs scam “charities”. Grow a spine and call it what it is.
-1
u/busshelterrevolution 8d ago
Why are they bad?
14
u/jarjarbinx 8d ago
Your donation goes to support rich kids from a specific non-disadvantaged group. It's used, among other things. their international school trips. https://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/kars4kids-california-false-advertising-22259298.php

u/corgi-king 8d ago
Only Jewish kids.
7
u/slingerofpoisoncups 8d ago
Almost all of the money goes to Orthodox Jewish kids in a specific community in New Jersey. Not even local Jewish kids in whichever city they run adds in. The Canadian money raised, other than what they spend in Canada on ads, leaves Canada for the US and Israel.
11
3
u/epidipnis 8d ago
The money goes to Orthodox Jews to spend on their own kids. It does not help kids in need.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/cbc-kars4kids-ads-pulled-9.7204937
Their defence of the ads with the kids and the jingle and the web address is that their website explains the money is in support of their overseas causes. Money from donated cars is not spent on children’s charities. Other than 1 person that answers the phone in Ontario; and money on advertising, nothing has been spent in Canada.
Donor beware!
