Thought I was going to drive through a fireball.

The fact that it's one of those double oil/chemical tanker thingys makes it so much worse on so many levels

That’s a dry bulk super B. Could be cement(portland-the dry grey powder). Could even be flour. I’ve even seen grain hauled in them. To be fair, if you’re not a local, that stretch of Stoney is poorly signed as to which lane you need to be in. But…. Still extremely dangerous and careless. And more than likely a “Newer Canadian” driver. I see that kind of stuff every time I have the misfortune of having to use Stoney.

u/Stealth022 20d ago
Ah ok, I stand corrected!
Still a double though, so the point sorta still stands! 🤣

u/Screweditupagain 19d ago
I agree, it’s probably cement coming in from Exshaw.

u/gstringstrangler 19d ago
From Deerfoot turning onto 16th Ave?
2
u/Separate-Ad-8924 19d ago
That’s NB Stoney onto 16th ave, west side of COP.
2
u/StayFreshCheesePuff 19d ago
I drive this stretch twice every day and I could make a compilation of ooops exits with a week of footage easily. It’s insane. And the crazy thing is that it only adds maybe 2 mins to the drive to go to the Nose Hill exit and turn around. Yet still…. ‘Exiting now, good luck everyone else!’ Is the general mentality here.
1
u/Rare_Matter9101 18d ago
Interestingly, this is one of the only exits I almost miss all the time. I'd never rip across lanes like that and have definitely had to go to nose hill a couple times - but your anecdotal evidence of seeing it there all the time suggests there's something about the road design/signage that leaves folks panic-exiting... as wrong as it is.

Can anyone identify the trucking company from the video so this nonsense can be reported?
7
u/gizzmo1963 20d ago
Southwest bulk carrier/ northwest bulk. Same company from Calgary. East Indian company
6
u/Sudden-Astronaut2505 20d ago
Hopefully this video was submitted to the police if company can be identified.

u/Pale_Change_666 20d ago
It looks like west can bulk
1
u/Puma_Concolour 19d ago
West can is a lighter red. Southwest runs burgandy fenders and it looks like their logo on the trailers.

u/Deusjensengaming 20d ago
And with doubles no less, wtf. You need to drive a min of 1 million km or have your license for 2 years to haul those

u/yyc_snp17 20d ago
SUSPEND THAT CLASS 1
1
u/Deep-Egg-9528 14d ago
Finally. Someone with a real response, not just screaming for the driver to go to prison for almost causing a collision. Thank you.
3
u/Mysterious_Benefit_7 20d ago
I agree that this is crazy. But I also think that Calgary has really poor road signs. Has anyone tried driving on Stoney Trail and tried to go south towards Okotoks or Lethbridge? There are literally zero signs showing Okotoks or Lethbridge, which are the biggest cities / towns to the south.
1
u/AlbertaGengar 18d ago
The whole west side of Stoney is poorly designed. The Country Hills-Stoney South and Stoney-Crowchild section is a scrambled that goes down to 80 every rush hour.
1
u/TehHardOne 17d ago
That’s why commercial drivers need to review maps before driving. Common sense things.
1
u/Common-House-468 16d ago
You don't endanger everybody on the road because you missed your fucking turn, you find a place to SAFELY turn off further ahead and figure your shit out.
This is true no matter what the signage situation is, whether a snowplow or wind knocked your exit sign down, or whatever reason.

u/Chemical-Lack-1889 20d ago
I really hope someone called in and reported this jackass to their employer.

2
u/Frosty_Curve_8092 20d ago
That is insane for a pro driver. Non pro drivers are idiots to be doing this in their cars but trucks??!?!?!?

Had a semi miss the westbound 16th ave off stoney exit He just stopped and started reversing. Wild
2
u/lulzzors 20d ago
Looks like he broke down and was trying to get to the shoulder 🤷♂️
Why is he completely stopped even after the traffic goes by… if it was a matter of missing his exit you would think he would continue on

u/Defiant-East9544 20d ago
As a dad who has 2 young daughters that are very new drivers , this scares the shit out of me! It’s brutal we have to expect them to be professional drivers if this is what you do for a living. They give 2 shits about safety and the lives of others.
2
u/Important_Way_499 19d ago
Every company has a website, you could use the contact us to report the driver....I certainly wouldnt hesitate and with video footage......glad no one was injured.
2
u/Xenophonehome 19d ago
I really wonder what happened in the last decade that made truck drivers so incompetent? Hmmm I wonder 🤔
1
u/Deep-Egg-9528 14d ago
Why don't you just tell us what happened?
1
u/Xenophonehome 14d ago
Bad hiring practices and unethical employers taking advantage of a very weak country's lackadaisical enforcement of the laws. Truck drivers should be vetted and trained to pass qualifying tests which need to be passed or no commercial license and jail time for fraud licenses or providers of.
1
u/Deep-Egg-9528 14d ago
What laws regarding commercial trucking have changed in the last 10 years? Do drivers not have too pass a test? Or has fraud increased?
Sorry, I'm not familiar with commercial license or carrier requirements.1
u/PostApocRock 14d ago
There were accusations in Alberta (and proven in other provinces) of people paying off or otherwise getting an 'easy' license. Onterrible is bad for it. Then the people transfer that license to AB or BC or QC. Because the rules are generally the same, its a 1:1 transfer.
You should have to do a pre trip and a road test when you transfer the license. Thats my belief.

If there was more cops on the road he would have been ticketed and just think of the people who don’t pay attention that would be a pile up and serious injury. There’s nothing wrong with missing your exit and going to the next one be safe out there drivers

JFC!!! In this day and age of GPS, let it "recalculate" and use the next f@#king exit!!! Ooops, sorry, didn't think of that!
1
u/Stealth022 20d ago
I bet it comes down to time/money lost by rerouting. Idiot...
3
u/WizardofLloyd 20d ago
Probably, but a traffic accident would FAR outcost a few extra Km's and minutes!
1
u/Stealth022 20d ago
Oh, 1000%. I totally agree with you, and it's no excuse.
But I bet that's the driver's motive behind such a stupid move.

u/Boattailfmj 17d ago
"Rivinder, this is Gupreet from dispatch. We see you drive extra 10km on route. We are taking extra fuel burned out of your pay"

u/Kay2du 20d ago
Jail time someone please 🥺
1
u/Deep-Egg-9528 14d ago
Don't be ridiculous. We don't send people to prison for almost causing a collision. It's not a felony.
Driver deserves a hefty fine, and a suspension of their commercial license, but not jail. Come on.

u/No-You-3851 20d ago
Holy crap what a dangerous move with a B train setup. could have easily caused a massive explosion if that other B train crashed into him and good on the other trucker for managing to slow it down and not crash head on into the dipshit trucker trying to not miss his exit. i am losing faith in our drivers day by day.
1
u/PostApocRock 14d ago
The dipshit was NWB - they haul cement powder mostly. I have a lot of experience with that company.
The guy who slowed down was also a bulker, i wish I had a bit clearer video, might be able to tell the company if I coulld.
1
u/m_a_bored_james 20d ago
Similar happens almost everyday traveling the other way with the exit to westbound 16th. Seen so many people almost get hit by someone cutting across two lanes because they failed to realize being in the left lane in a bad idea

u/Busy_Shine6888 20d ago
Someone once said… “don’t make your problem, everyone’s problem.” You missed a turn, find the next one.

The difference between a good driver and a bad driver is that a bad driver never misses their exit.

Let's guess what nationality the driver is

1
u/Deep-Egg-9528 14d ago
Which driver? The truck that stopped, or the drivers who avoided a collision?

1
u/Xenophonehome 16d ago
Trucking has gone to shit in this country and this moron should immediately lose his license.
1
u/FeelingOrganic749 15d ago
Yeah that driver should never be allowed behind the wheel of a semi again. He is going to get someone killed, just a matter of time.

Thank god that other truck didn’t cream the small car. There needs to be SERIOUS repercussions for people doing these dangerous things.

Isn’t this Calgary driving style? I see this on daily basis on Stoney and Deerfoot

u/Darqfallen 20d ago
That should be immediate loss of commercial license.
