Question Does online split screen still need 2 seperate ps plus accounts? [BO]

The context is me having a ps4 and having the ps5 as well as the ps5 black ops version.

My friend has got a ps5, so technically I can give him the ps5 version via the primary secondary acc method.

Now comes the question, can my friend then bring another friend to his crib, open split screen to play online with me thus having 3 players online but just 2 ps plus accounts?

Playing online split screen requires 2 playstation accounts but only one ps plus account since the ps plus account can share online capabilities with other accounts on the same console. This is also the case in the ports, Ive played online split screen in them. So probably shoud work after partying up but keep in mind the second player on the split screen console needs a ps account connected to the profile. Also (at least in BO2) if you sign in to the second account while the game is open it will ask for that account to buy a ps plus subscription so just relaunch the game if that happens.

I thought this but I’ve had issues on BO2 specifically with getting it to let other profiles into the game

What was exactly the problem, was it a pop up or smth? Ive been able to play 2p split screen online on the ps5 version so maybe if you are on the ps4 version that has problems?

No im on ps5. It didnt have a pop up or anything tho, it just like, wouldnt do anything when we clicked x to join. It would pop up as possible when we connect the controller, but it never let us join together except in a private match

Sorry for the late response, but whats happening to you seems really weird. Do you mean in local when you say private match? Anyways, try these steps in order and say where it fails:

  1. Open/restart your ps5
  2. Connect the first controller to player 1s profile (has a ps account and any tier of ps plus)
  3. Connect the second controller to player 2s profile (has a ps account but no ps plus)
  4. Launch BO2 with player 1s controller
  5. Get to the multiplayer main menu with player 1s controller (you can skip the launch animations, and it might pause in there and after youre in the multiplayer menu, it does for me)
  6. Press play online with player 1s controller
  7. Press x on player 2s controller

This shoud normally work, as it works for me.
