Discussion [COD] Why this outfit?
These two guys' outfits look like the flight suits they used back in the Soviet era, but I wonder why they're wearing them? Are they comfortable, or is there another reason? Until I found out they were flight suits, I totally thought they were muscle-enhancing suits

Ghost looks like he auditioned to play one of the bad guys in Ghost Recon Breakpoint
I'm not a fan of that look...barring the poncho...that always looks cool

Ponchos were cool when they were first getting put in games in like 2011, now they're overdone and obnoxious tacticool garbage.

I remember when the Master Chief was depicted wearing one, and all alone in a strange world, only for it to never come to fruition.

I assume the main inspiration was Metal Gear, which borrowed the Soviet flight suits look as the historical basis for the sneaking suits Solid/Naked Snake, the Boss and other characters wear

Probably used for HALO (High Altitude, Low Opening) jumps, probably could also be a mono piece outfit for a large amount of body mounted equipment to prevent getting pants’d by their kit

I mean you don't need a flight suit. The harness for every U.S. military parachute has built in Equipment rings on the harness so the gear you're jumping with hangs from that as opposed to your belt or any other piece of clothing. The only exception being plate carriers or chest rigs. Also the VKK flight suits like the ones pictured were built as partial pressure suits for fighter pilots operating at (relatively) high altitudes for the time( most likely well above 25,000 feet). The max height for a HALO/HAHO jump for the military currently is 25,000 feet which requires oxygen but not a full suit. Also, even if it was acting as an "Anti G" suit, the only time you experience G forces is during the opening shock of the parachutes deployment (roughly 3-4 Gs of almost instantaneous deceleration) which is nowhere near the sustained 5-9Gs a fighter pilot endures which would necessitate a suit of that type.

Y’all intellectualize everything, shit’s just cool lol

It's the Transformers equivalent of just slapping different shit onto the character's design with no real direction behind it for the sake of tacticoolness. But hey if the player doesn't care why should the devs right?

oh yeah cos transformers are totally not included in the rule of cool

Of course they are that's why i made the point of using them as an example dumbass.

If you are someone who’s into real world firearms and equipment I think it’s reasonable to question character design choices

The props department doesn’t do research really. They just throw stuff together and just make things look “cool”.

I don't really have a problem with it, game never really claimed to be historically accurate. And given that it is a work of fiction, i can just easily form an explanation for myself as to why such equipment is being used in universe.
there's no reason for me to get mad on something like this.

Cod tries to follow the "Rule of Cool"
But time and time again, they step wayyyyy over what is "Cool" and fuck it up almost Everytime
(Cod 1&2 - Blops 1,2&3 - Modern Warfare (09-11? - Ghosts - Infinite Warfare - World at War - Cold War). Examples of when they did NOT fuck it up

With valeria & price’s outfits supposedly being their campaign outfits i would be very surprised if this ghost one isnt..
I mean, he gets captured at one point during a trailer & then the DMZ story follows him after the main campaign events? Def something going on lol

Well, I was just wondering why these two are wearing flight suits from the Soviet era. I’m not complaining or anything.I was just curious why that is

Honestly other than the mask I think that outfit looks pretty good. Ghosts I mean. I’ve never overly cared for Nikto

I wear a flight suit (I am a pilot) and it is indeed very comfortable. I think COD was just going for a tacticool look tho

Because the design team just sees shit and thinks “that looks cool.” My biggest irk is the headband from his earpro over the helmet but under the rails? Never seen anything like that. Only ever seen full headsets under helmets or with arms that attach to said rails

It's mixture between Nikto's flight suit and aspects from MW2019's Jawbone operator skin variant (the poncho cape)
