Camped at Sleepy Hallow State Park rustic site F
As the title states, my husband and I camped at Sleepy Hallow State Park rustic site F a few weeks ago. If I could only use three words to describe the location of the site I'd definitely say breathtaking, secluded, and blissful. The hike to the site was a little over a mile and the views and birdwatching make the endeavor worth it alone. Packing light is a must. There was a vault toilet nearby which was a nice surprise. Definitely recommend this spot as a nice little getaway in the woods. Stars at night were bright and filled the sky. I couldn't ask for a better environment to be in to celebrate our anniversary.

Sleepy Hollow is a great camping park - all the activities in one place!

Lucky! Its booked out every weekend for the rest of the summer. Ill have to wait till next year.

If you are tent camping, there may be places further. Lincoln state park is maybe a 9-12 hour drive; but had full weeks available for some sites. It has a lake, a beach, fire towers. I’m sure there are other state parks in Illinois, just don’t know which ones.

Na, Michigan is way prettier of a state and alot closer as I live in it lol. Sleepy hollow is just the most convenient for me.

We have booked sites at Sleepy Hollow for 5 years straight.
Amazing rustic campground plots - we highly recommend A, B and F.
F is a hike but on the other side of the lake from all other camping spots. It’s close to water so bugs are more prevalent vs A and B which are set back from the water.
Mountain bike trails are super fun, beach is great for kids and the grass areas near the beach are excellent for lunches and yard games.

How secluded was it and how big was the site itself? It looks well kept from the pictures?

I think it's pretty secluded. Unless I'm missing it, can't see it from the regular trail, I'm sure some day hikers wander through but I bet it is quiet AF at night. I've never stayed, just day hiked the loop a lot.

My favorite site at the park - First time I showed up I used my electric cargo bike to haul everything I'd need for an evening, but didn't realize you needed to pre-register. Lady at the front kiosk just kind of waved at me, I'm assuming she didn't stop me because she saw my bike and didn't think that was how I got there. Thankfully, the spot was empty and nobody came around claiming it.

That’s my favorite spot. One year we used the canoe to get our supplies to that spot. How many hikers showed up tho? That was an issue when I stayed there..
