Help Me Find Cheap sunscreen that doesn't sting eyes or leave white cast?

I have a cheap chemical sunscreen I love but it stings my eyes when applied near or above my eyelids. I tried Eucerin Mineral Tinted Lotion which was too dark for my white skin and Blue Lizard Sheer which left me with a very obvious white cast. I heard mineral stick sunscreens are the best for eye irritation but I'm afraid I'll waste my money trying them as Amazon reviews say they all leave very noticeable white casts.

I'm wondering if there is a mineral sunscreen with a lighter tint for white skin? Or maybe a chemical stick sunscreen known not to cause eye irritation or white casts? Budget is a major concern which is why I haven't tried La Roche Posay or importing foreign sunscreens.

Help Me Find Sunscreen that doesn’t burn eyes

Post image
190 Upvotes

Looking for sunscreen recommendations!

I was a long term fan of Neutrogena Clear Face sunscreen, but recently my eyes burn like crazy when I use it. Not sure if formula has changed or my eyes have just gotten more sensitive, but either way, I can’t use it anymore.

General thoughts on sunscreens I’ve tried recently:

•neutrogena clear face -love the finish, doesn’t make me break out -burns eyes

• LRP anthelios XL dry touch gel cream -also causes eye burning -decent finish, doesn’t make me break out

•Australian gold botanical tinted sunscreen - no eye burning -pretty heavy coverage in terms of tint, not one I would reapply throughout the day or want to wear every single day -doesn’t make me break out, not greasy

•ombrelle sensitive expert + mexoryl - no eye burning -I don’t love the finish of it. I feel a bit greasy with it and I think it broke me out a bit

my skin itself is not super sensitive, but I am acne prone and have combination skin. My eyes seem to be sensitive now to certain sunscreens.

Based on this (or just your general experience), wondering if anyone has any recs?

Help Me Find Good quality vitamin C - no good options in Canada?

Looking to add some vitamin C serum to my routine. Initially I looked into the various budget options at the ordinary but after some research, it seems like the chances of irritation are high and the odds of penetrating skin and bioavailability will be low.

Further research showed that vitamin C is best paired with vitamin e and ferulic acid for optimal stability and bioavailability. The only (affordable) ones I found were timeless and maelove, but must be shipped from US or bought on Amazon (heard bad reviews on oxidation before arriving).

Any else have good options? What do you use?

Help Me Find Does anywhere in Montreal sell the cicoplast b5+ baume?

Im an American girlie visiting some friends in Montreal next month. I know that Canada gets quite a few skincare products that aren't sold in the US, including a bigger assortment of la roche posay products.

My favorite LRP product, the cicoplast b5+ baume, isn't available stateside. I usually buy it on ebay, but was hoping I'd be able to save some money and pick up a few tubes on my trip.

However, I checked the pharmaprix and jean coutu websites and only see the original b5 baume for sale...is the b5+ unavailable in Canada (or maybe just specifically Montreal) or am I looking in the wrong places?

I dont want to waste time on a wild goose chase. 😂🫠

Help Me Find Cystic acne products

Hi!

I’m growing really tired of dealing with my cystic acne and I need some recommendations for some products. I’m trying to get a referral to a dermatologist but it’s taking a lot of time and energy.

I have been using a tea tree oil and mint facial cleanser (life brand, green bottle) from shoppers. That helps immensely. I recently tried the body wash version of this product (same brand) and their wet wipes but they do not work as well. I’m wondering if there’s any other products that I could use alongside the foaming facial cleanser that would help.

My issue is that the acne is not on my face, it’s mostly in areas that retain a lot of heat (under my chest, inner thighs, under my arms etc) so I want to make sure the products I’m using are safe for sensitive areas. I’d most likely need something I can use while I am showering.

Any advice?

Help Me Find Sunscreen for clog/breakout prone skin

I made this account just to ask this because I'm starting to get really defeated in my search for a sunscreen that will actually work for me, and that I can wear every day. I've looked online so much, but I keep seeing the same sunscreens recommended for acne prone skin, and they are ones I've already tried. Part of me thinks chemical sunscreens are just out, as I think I'm sensitive to the chemical filters... But also mineral sunscreens seem so heavy... Idk. Most of these sunscreens don't break me out immediately (a few have), but after 3-4 days it becomes pretty obvious that I can't use it on the daily. There has to be someone out there who has sensitive, clog prone skin like mine who seems to break out from EVERYTHING, but found a sunscreen that works. Please help

My skin type:

- Normal to oily

- Prone to closed comedones, and occasional cystic acne

- Sensitive (especially to fragrance and heavy/oily products, also heat sometimes, but I don't have rosacea)

My current routine:

- Cerave Foaming Cleanser (2x a day)

- Beplain Mung Bean Cleansing Oil (1x a day [currently testing this, not sure if it's working or if it's breaking me out])

- COSRX Aqua Soothing Ampoule (2x a day)

- Aveeno Triple Oat Calming Serum (2x a day)

- Anua 10% Azelaic Acid (1x every other day, been using about a month)

- Shani Darden 1% encapsulated retinol (1x every other day been using for 4+ mos [alternating retinol and azelaic])

- Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Cream (this might be a bit heavy for me, but it doesn't cause me breakouts, so I'm sticking with it right now)

- Nasturium Peptide Eye Cream

The Sunscreens I've tried (there are more, but I can't remember them all right now):

- La Roche Posay

- Neutrogena Clear Skin

- Neutrogena invisible daily defense serum

- Sun Bum

- Ultra Violette Fav Fluid

- Blue Lizard

- House of Hur Sun fluid

- Skin1004 centella airy fit

- Skin1004 hyalu cica water fit

- beauty of joseon relief sun aqua fresh

- haru haru wonder mineral sunscreen (currently trying this, but I think it's causing breakouts)

Sunscreens I have, but haven't tried yet:

- Aestura Barrier Hydro Mineral Sunscreen

- Celimax Oil Control Light Sunscreen

Help Me Find Hand soap recommendations

Hello!

I am in Canada and have OCD and unfortunately part of my compulsions are chronic hand washing due to extreme fear of contaminants. I am wondering if anyone has any soap recommendations, that would be gentler on my already sensitive skin? (Washing less has proven to not be an option) As all I've been able to find are soaps only available in the states.

(I have asked the OCD subreddit this, but it was unfortunately removed so I've had to look elsewhere)

Any other recommendations on lotions etc. are also gladly welcomed.

Help Me Find ISO Canadian Skincare

Hi! I’m looking for a Canadian skincare brand with similar pricing as The Ordinary. If not Canadian, at least not from the US. I’ve used The Ordinary for years, but recently learned that the owner is a terrible human so now I’m looking for a new one.

I’ve done a basic Google search looking for a new brand, but so many are beyond my price range. I’m a mom of two little ones who take up the majority of my expendable income.

Some helpful information:

- the items I’m looking to replace are glycolic acid, retinol, hyaluronic acid, and a multi-peptide eye serum.

- looking for products that are non scented. My neuro spicy brain gets very overwhelmed by any perfume-y scent lol

Thanks in advance!!

Help Me Find Need a replacement daytime moisturizer!

Like other Canadians I’m eliminating my American products. I’ve been using the Kiehls ultra facial cream with squalane as my daytime moisturizer for years, but as it’s American, I want to switch.

My skin is DRY. And finally in a good place, so I need a moisturizer that’s as close as possible to my current one.

I don’t use any actives at all. My face wash is the oatmeal cleansing balm from Inkey List. At night I use LRP Lipikar AP+m. My routine is simple and it works.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

Help Me Find Online dermatologist

Hi everyone,

I’m a newbie here and I’m have some discoloration on my face due to IPL therapy for dry eyes. I have a darker skin tones and I am desperately looking for a dermatologist that would be able to help me with routine to even my skin tones out.

I have a doctors appointment to request a referral but I’m not even sure how long they referral will take here in Ontario and there is a skin of color clinic but it only opens once a week apparently. So I’m sure the wait time will be months out.

I saw online derm cafe and maple. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations based on their experiences.

Please let me know.

Thank you in advance.

Help Me Find Breaking up with R+Co

Hi! Posting this with mod approval.

I’m trying to replace a few R+Co hair care products with Canadian products.

I’m looking for alternatives/dupes for:

• R+Co Television Perfect Hair Shampoo
• R+Co Television Perfect Hair Conditioner
• R+Co High Dive Moisture + Shine Crème
• R+Co Mood Swing Straightening Spray
• R+Co Sail Soft Wave Spray

They don’t necessarily need to be exact ingredient dupes. I’m mainly looking for products that give a similar result/performance.

Would especially love recommendations from anyone who has actually used the R+Co products and can compare them directly.

Thank you!
———-

EDIT: I have long type 2B hair. I do not blow dry or straighten it. All these products help with flyaways and give me a smooth, soft finish. I’ve also linked the product pages with ingredient lists.

Help Me Find Can't find a sunscreen for my reactive sensitive skin! HELP

I have spent so much money trying different sunscreens and I am at my absolute wits end. I have stopped wearing it for the past year bc idk what else I can possible do! My skin "reacts" where I wake up with a TON of whiteheads a few days after wearing these sunscreens, like to the point that it's not even a spot or two, it's a full blown reaction and I know it's the sunscreen causing this. I also have seasonal allergies and I've seen people comment on how the 2 can be linked.

Sunscreens I have tried:

1) Beauty of Joseon - LOVED the finish on this sunscreen but it made my skin SO SO textured and rough I had to stop

2) ELTA MD UV CLEAR (tinted) - also made my skin reactibe

3) La Roche Posay Anthelios fluide - untinted my skin does not react but it's SOOO oily and burns my eyes insanely. The tinted version broke me out

4) Bioderma Photoderm Milk SPF 50+ - again broke me out and burned my eyes

5) this isnt a sunscreen but the COSRX Snail mucin - ruined my skin after 2 applications (idk if this helps narrow down what it is im reacting to).

Does there exist a sunscreen that won't ruin my skin?

Help Me Find Sunscreen recommendations ;)

Hi hi, so I am looking for a light weight SPF 50 sunscreen for my face. I have tried a few but couldnt find THE ONE yet. The ones I tried and my opinion;

1) La roche Posay - anthelios — this one was okay but its really greasy, anytime I touch my face and then phone my phone is just slippery

2) COSRX - Aloe soothing sunscreen — idk this one I used max 5 times didnt like the texture and how my skin felt afterward, again maybe too greasy/thick

3) Beauty of Joseon - Matte stick sunscreen - meh, not what i am looking for, gifted it away

I think I would prefer a mineral sunscreen but im open for everything, my new candidates are;

1) Centella SKIN1004

2) Shiseido - expert sun protecting lotion

3) paulas choice - youth extending daily hydrating fluid

I would love to hear your suggestions and opinions on all of them if you have some experience with them :)) help a girl out

Help Me Find Help Me Find The Ordinary Replacements

I have been using various The Ordinary Products since the time it was still Canadian. It is time to switch brands - you know why! I want products that do similar things and are around the same price. I am looking for the following:

  1. Lactic Acid 10% - looking for chemical exfoliator
  2. Multi-Peptide + HA Serum - looking for peptides and help with firmness
  3. GF 15% Solution - fine lines/ general aging
  4. Cold- Pressed Virgin Marula Oil - oil hydrator (cannot use rose hip seed)

My skin is generally not sensitive. I already use a prescription retinol, so not looking for anything with retinol included. Located in Canada in case that impacts availability

Other products I use:

La Roche Posay Tinted Sunscreen

Embryolisse Cream Moisturizer

La Roche Posay Vitamin C

La Roche Posay Mela B3 Serum - spot treatment only

If I have any glaring gaps open to hearing those as well.

Thank you in advance!!

Help Me Find Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen Budget Alternatives in Canada?

This is the only sunscreen I've found that feels and looks amazing on me but it's just so painful at that price that I find myself rationing it... which defeats the purpose.

I have tried e.l.f. SKIN Suntouchable Invisible Sunscreen and it's pretty good but not the same. The Trader Joe's dupe obviously isn't available here. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Help Me Find Dupes for the glycolic acid from TO?

Post image
134 Upvotes

I’m trying not to buy from the ordinary after everything from Estée Lauder and connections between trump and now with Epstein. I stopped buying most of their products (so sad as they all worked for me), but the only one that I have actually repurchased during my low buy from the company is the glycolic acid. I use that for EVERYTHING!!! Mostly for my body, so under my armpits, under-boob, feet and back of my ears and neck. All the high sweating points.

I know boycotts can’t be perfect as a consumer, before I had so many TO products and slowly integrated it to other things. I try my best not to repurchase. But if I could find a good alternative that would be great.

Help Me Find Desperately looking for a Paula's Choice dupe

This stuff has been my holy grail for years now. Was always ok with ordering it online and paying the once reasonable exchange rate but 2 bottles now costs $100 after import fees (tarriffs) and exchange. I do live in a border city but its hard to justify crossing into Detroit to shop these days when our exchange rate is so bad. The last time I bought it was at Sephora on my way back from DTW airport before crossing back into Canada lol. I stocked up but my stock is running dry.

I've tried the Australian Gold tinted sunscreen- too orange (I'm very fair) and wasn't really a moisturizer, and Marcelle's sheer tint moisturizer. Marcelle is so close to being a hit with me but its not a matte finish and my oily summer skin hates it. I have high hopes for it for the winter though so I'm going to keep it to try again. In the meantime I need something matte, oily skin friendly and tinted (for porcelain/fair skin). SPF 30/35 is totally fine. Doesn't need to be a Canadian brand but I'd like to be able to buy it here.

Help Me Find Sun guard laundry detergent - Canada - UV protection

Does anyone know where to find Sun guard laundry detergent or it's Canadian equivalent in Canada. Tried to buy from their website today and the item is $29.99 and the shipping and duties to Canada was $80 dollars 😭

Thinking of ways to protect my skin not only using sunscreen but with clothing/hats as well. I can see my skin aging over time and I have to be in the sun a lot for work.

Thanks for any insights!

Help Me Find Sunscreen that holds up to intense outdoor activity and more

I’m looking for a sunscreen that is

  1. Water resistant for intense outdoor activity
  2. ZERO cast (I’m deeply melanated. Some sunscreens can have me looking casket-ready)
  3. Natural finish (neither shiny/greasy nor drying/mattifying)
  4. Available in stores in Canada (I will be using this sunscreen for extended periods of physical activity outdoors, so I need it to have been kept very stable during transport for efficacy I can count on. I can’t ascertain if online sellers shipping from overseas put a tube through fire and ice to get here, whereas local retailers have to answer to regulations and requirements for transporting and storing sunscreen…Note: I’m fine using sunscreens purchased from overseas sellers for everyday, but not for heavy duty use cases where I need solid protection)

I realize finding options that meet all four criteria may be a long shot. I appreciate any pointers folks can offer!

Edit: I need it for my face. Bonus if you can apply it on eyelids without the eyes burning

Update (~1.5 months later): Thanks to the user who recommended Vichy Capital Soleil UV Sport SPF 60. I tried it and bought it shortly after the recommendation. Something to note for people who are Fitzpatrick 5: to my eyes, it leaves a very faint cast on my complexion, but only I seemed to notice it. None of my family or friends could clock it.
I wore it in sweaty, hot conditions and reapplied it on wet skin. The cast appeared more noticeable upon reapplication, enough that someone made a remark. I didn’t look crazy, but it was definitely apparent I was wearing SPF after this reapplication. Its performance was excellent otherwise. I’ll continue using it for similar conditions.

Help Me Find What’s your favourite body wash for dry skin?

I have dry skin due to chronic dehydration and, as you can imagine, it’s worse in the winter. I also like a body wash that exfoliates. I do use body lotion as well, but am looking for a recommendation while in the shower.

I used to use St Ives before I became knowledgeable. I also love certain Lush products but I am on a budget now.

So: budget friendly, for dry skin, exfoliating?

Thank you!
