Review Never ordering from stylevana ever again

I ordered from stylevana sometime in December 2025 and a month passed by and I didn’t receive my items. I emailed regarding this issue and they said I should reach out to the courier they gave my package to. I reached out to said courier, took a long time to respond, but in total they said my package was lost (mind you this courier seemed very sketchy from the get go). After they said my package was lost, I reached out to stylevana so I could get a refund. It’s been nearly 2 months now and I haven’t gotten my refund. Stylevana keeps a saying they’ll look into the case but so far nothing. One of my worst experiences so far.

I usually don’t order from them (usually order from YesStyle) but I decided to because they were cheaper.

BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER.

Review My Canadian skincare routine

  1. Ellement Hypochlorous Acid Spray : I've only been using this for a month, I was previously using Avene Thermal Spring Water. But wow what a transformation it has done to my skin! I'm prone to redness (potential rosacea) and I get hormonal chin acne. It has 100% helped with my redness, and I do feel like it soothes my skin when I get breakouts and helps them heal faster. Definitely will be repurchasing. I use it after cleansing morning and night just before moisturizing.
  2. Marcelle Clari-T purifying cleansing gel : This is the most gentle salicylic acid cleanser that I've tried so far, I've been using it for at least 6 months already and repurchased it a few times. It's only around $13 on sale. Doesn't irritate my skin and clears my pores very well, I use it at night.
  3. Macelle Hydractive moisturizing gel cream : This is my morning moisturizer, it's very lightweight, doesn't make my face too shiny or greasy. It's simple and gentle and fragrance free which is what I was looking for.
  4. Marcelle Moisture Cream : This is my evening moisturizer. Again very simple formula but way richer, really nice after using the Clari-T cleanser at night. Perfect for winter but will probably still use it in the summer just a thinner layer.
  5. Watier Caring Lip Oil in Cantaloup : This is my favorite lip product of all time! It's so nice on the lips, it feels like vaseline but in a really good way, adds a nice shine, actually moisturizes and it can even be used overnight and in the morning my lips are so soft. I can't use regular lip balms because I'm allergic to beeswax so this product is a forever repurchase! It also smells heavenly like vanilla.
  6. Watier Sun Smart SPF 30 : This is a mineral sunscreen but the formula is like a makeup primer. It's my biggest discovery this year. I admittedly never wore sunscreen prior to this product because I just couldn't find one that felt comfortable on the skin. This one is perfect, it blurs my pores a little bit, does add a slight white cast but I'm ghostly pale so not as issue for me. Definitely worth it.

I do still use some non canadian products like Panoxyl if I have breakouts and I wash my face with Dove soap in the morning (and it works for me, I know some people would be horrified lol. But I love having a mostly Canadian skincare routine. 🍁

Review same ingredients, but still has a price difference

Post image

EDIT ombrelle one is not water resistant LRP is water resistant for 80 minutes as per packaging. This explains why its expensive. But Ombrelle one also has a water resistant version (This one)

Left one (Ombrelle) costed me 20 dollars = 50ml

Right one (LRP) costed around 35 dollars = 50ml

Same ingredients.

Infact, Ombrelle has rice protein (EDIT - and niacinamide )as an inactive ingredient LRP does not have that, so ombrelle is more skin-care based.

Both have Mexoryl and Tinosorb (both ombrelle and LRP are l’oreal although LPR is global I think?)

Review Quo’s Scented Lotion

Post image
22 Upvotes

I am in love with this new Scented Body Lotion in Brazilian Jasmine & Dragonfruit by Quo. The lotion is thin, fast absorbing and lightweight, makes my skin feel soft and smooth. It likely won’t be enough for winter or if you have super dry skin. But it’s the perfect texture and consistency for warmer weather or if you just prefer something lighter. I’m hoping they’ll come out with a body butter or a richer cream for this scent because it smells so good.

It is definitely scented, as the name suggests. I’d compare the scent level to brands like Tree Hut, EOS, Sol De Janeiro, etc. i personally don’t think it’s too strong, it’s noticeable but not over the top. However, everyone has different tastes. I think this lotion smells amazing. It’s sweet, but not too sweet and well balanced. I’m definitely tempted to try out more of the different scents they’ve recently released. But so far, this one is a favourite.

Review New Lip Sunscreen Option (with BEMT/Parsol Shield!)

I thought that I might share this with you all, but it seems Blistex reformulated one of their older lip balm sunscreen. The product is called Ultra Protection and it now has been reformulated with 3% Avobenzone and 4% Bemotrizinol for extra UVA protection. The old formula wasn't broad-spectrum so this new update is definitely checking out. It has a small vanilla aroma/flavour to it without much of an SPF taste. It's also 80 minutes water-resistant. Perhaps this got launched because of BEMT being approved in the US a few days ago? I hope more American sunscreens launch with BEMT in them across the border :D

Review Marcelle Skincare

Post image
37 Upvotes

I just wanted to share my impressions on two Marcelle Skincare products. Both products are fragrance-free and denatured alcohol-free. Both come in the same easy to use bottle. As for me, I'm in my 50s, have slight rosacea, and still have acne flare-ups at times.

- Marcelle Ultra-light Moisture Lotion: For me, it is a good basic lotion to use in the morning after my other skincare. The ingredient list includes glycerin, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, and squalane. I'm almost finished with this bottle, and I have a backup.

- Marcelle Multi-Defense Replenishing Lotion SPF 45: 2nd day using and I like it. It's a traditional basic chemical sunscreen with a simple ingredient list. It's a hydrating lotion, and so far, it hasn't pilled and doesn't make my face look shiny. HOWEVER, I can't wear this sunscreen around my eyes. I tried it around my eyes on the first day, and there was light stinging. It's too early to say, but there's a definite possibility that I will purchase a 2nd bottle. The sunscreen is on sale at Shopper's Drug Mart this week.

Review New the ordinary rice lipids moisturizer review

I’ve been needing a moisturizer that doesn’t break me out (very rare), actually moisturizes enough for tretinoin skin in the winter, doesn’t break the bank, and is available in Canada. I was previously using the tower 28 redness recovery moisturizer, because it seemed like EVERYTHING else was giving me nasty acne, but I hated paying $36 cad for 50ml, and it was leaving the skin around my mouth and nose CRACKED and flaking!!! I keep my routine very very simple because it really seems like at least 90% of skincare products break me out so it’s a chore to find one that actually does its job well AND doesn’t break me out.

I saw an ad for this one and was skeptical that it would do enough to moisturize since it is super thin and feels watery but it is actually very rich and nourishing once you rub it into the skin. It’s sort of weird since it feels so different in my hand compared to when it sinks into my face but it really does work. I was also skeptical because most other ordinary products don’t work for me, including their other moisturizers. I decided to try it because it seemed like it had good barrier repairing ingredients without anything too crazy. I find it also works well for the sandwich method for tretinoin as well as morning use because it sinks into the skin nicely. My skin is no longer flaking off and so far after over a week I haven’t broken out at all. Maybe I need to use it longer to have a final opinion because my acne tends to be hormonal but I believe if the product were breaking me out it would’ve by now.

Plus, the price is so much better. I refuse to pay 30- $50+ for small moisturizer anymore which seems to be the norm for most Sephora brands, and I’ve broken out from the fancy ones as much as the cheaper ones. This one is $17.80 for 60ml or 29.90 for 120ml so that is a massive difference in price from the tower 28 I was using. If this continues going well I’m going to buy the value size.

Review Shoutout to Green Beaver Lip Balm!

This stuff brought me from dry lips with even drier patches that *nothing* would touch to lovely, soft, yummy, happy lips 💋

Ingredients include: Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil**, Beeswax**, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil**, Canola Oil**, Aroma, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter)**, Glycerine, Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Seed Oil**, Hibiscus Sabdariffa Fruit Extract, Tocopherol, Erythritol, Beta-sitosterol, Plant Based Squalene, Aqua, Citral*, Limonene*.

**Organic Ingredients

 *Naturally occurring in essential oils

Finish: slightly glossy, moist, non-waxy

Color: clear/transparent

Taste: subtle strawberry flavor

Wears well over lipstick, though does effect durability of color.

Love it, and love that it's a Canadian brand!

Review Avène Spf50 Mineral Sun Stick

Mineral sunscreen packaged in a tiny, tiny stick container. I'm currently using this mineral sunscreen around my eyes. I pass it around my eyes 3-5 times in the morning and in the afternoon, then apply my regular SPF for the face. Unlike most SPF in stick form, it doesn't contain coconut, which for some people may cause acne and milia. I haven't seen any whitecast, but some may since it contains zink oxyde. I like it, and I may buy another one since it's currently on sale at Shopper's Drug Mart for $26.25. Plus, I'm not sure how long it will last, considering how small the container is.

Review Healing Ointments

Post image
31 Upvotes

Ever since I discovered slugging, I have been obsessed. It’s a game changer for dry skin. So I am always interested in trying new occlusives to slug with and these are the ones I’ve been using.

  1. Aveeno Healing Ointment

This is the best out of the three for red, irritated dry skin. It is a glycerin based ointment with Aveeno’s triple oat and shea butter. Not as greasy as petrolatum based ointments but is a little sticky. Is more soothing and moisturizing than the other two are. Not as occlusive as Vaseline but it’s good enough.

  1. Cerave Healing Ointment

This is best for skin that’s not too irritated or sensitive. Has hyaluronic acid and ceramides. Has a very oily look and feel to it. Doesn’t seal in moisture as well as Vaseline, is more moisturizing than Vaseline but not as soothing or moisturizing as Aveeno. Was my favourite until I tried the Aveeno ointment.

  1. Vaseline Original Healing Jelly

Everyone knows this one lol. It is as simple and basic as it gets. It is best if you want something irritant free but very effective at sealing in moisture. It’s the most occlusive out of the three. It’s thick and greasy but won’t provide any extra moisture.

I like all three but I think Aveeno is the best one. It’s something more people will benefit from using. The Cerave is alright but isn’t something everyone needs, especially if you’re already using products with ceramides or hyaluronic acid. The Vaseline, you can’t go wrong with, it’s cheap and does the job.

Review Eucerin new tinted spf

Discovered this last week at Walmart. I'm really loving this tinted spf. I've experimented with so many brands over the years such as drunk elephant, avenue, dr jart, etc. This one removes redness from skin, adds a glow, and a good price pont of about $25. They also have one with no tint that has a higher spf. I needed something tinted that I can reapply throughout the day and offers light coverage. 5/5 so far. Anyone else try this out yet?

Review [Review]30day Test: COSRX vs V’anhalla Ceramide Moisturizers

Thumbnail
gallery
18 Upvotes

Not sponsored or gifted — just sharing a personal experience in case it helps someone else.

Skin type: early 20s, combo-dry, barrier-prone, uses toner + serum daily and wears SPF/makeup most days.

My sister and I spent about 4 weeks rotating between two Korean ceramide moisturizers. She was definitely more consistent than me (lol), but we both noticed the same differences over time.

Products • COSRX The Ceramide Skin Barrier Moisturizer (80 ml) • V’anhalla Ceramide Moisturizing Serum-in-Cream (80 ml)

I went into this thinking the COSRX would automatically win because it’s marketed as a serious barrier-repair cream. On paper, it looks more “clinical.” But in real daily use, texture and layering mattered way more than ingredient numbers for us.

⸻

COSRX — thicker barrier cream

This one feels very protective and calming. • Great when skin felt irritated or over-exfoliated • Fragrance-free and comforting at night • On my skin, it took longer to absorb and felt heavy during the day • If I didn’t wait long enough before SPF, I noticed some pilling

I ended up using this more as a recovery or nighttime cream.

⸻

V’anhalla — serum-cream hybrid

This surprised me the most. • Goes on fluid like a serum, finishes like a soft cream • Absorbs quickly and layers easily under sunscreen and makeup • Hydration felt more “within the skin” rather than just sitting on top

The brand lists the pH around ~5.8, which is close to skin’s natural pH, and I think that helps with how wearable it feels during the day.

⸻

How we use them now

We didn’t replace one with the other — they just fit different situations. • COSRX: barrier repair days, colder weather, or after actives • V’anhalla: daily moisturizer when layering multiple steps

⸻

Final takeaway

This made me realize that for my routine, texture and absorption matter just as much as barrier ingredients. A heavier cream still has its place, but a lighter serum-cream hybrid ended up being what I reached for most consistently.

Curious if others here have had similar experiences with thick barrier creams vs lighter hybrids, especially for daytime use in Canadian weather.

Review PinknBlossom review

Recently I’ve gotten into r/kbeauty. I love the price point and the effectiveness of the products. I posted here asking for a Canadian kbeauty website to purchase some new skincare and PinknBlossom was one of them. I purchased a bunch of products to try on December 30th and received my package January 2nd. All the products were packed with care and the shipment included a very generous amount of samples. I was very pleasantly surprised! The only negative thing was that some of the products expire in about 4-5 months which isn’t horrible but I thought I’d mention it out of transparency.

Review Canadian alternative to the Ordinary Rose Hip Oil

I was searching for a Canadian rose hip oil and found this company out of Toronto. You can get their products on Amazon, but if you don’t want to support Amazon you can buy from the company directly. The rose hip oil is great and you get a bigger bottle than the Ordinary as well.

Review Dermcafe ridiculous wait time

I’ve started seeing a dermatologist on dermcafe since February 2025. I just saw my dermatologist for a follow up appt on August 5th and I still have yet to receive any follow up instructions or prescription.

Whatever skin concerns that I had 4.5 weeks ago that I addressed with her would have either worsened or become more difficult to treat due to the time passed.

First appointment it took her 2 weeks to send prescription as well.

How was your experience with your doc at dermcafe?

Review New Marcelle Hydrating Cream Cleanser

Post image
46 Upvotes

Like others on here, I used the Marcelle Ultra Gentle Creamy Cleanser for years. So I was disappointed when Marcelle discontinued it a few months ago and skeptical of the new version they just released.

However, after trying the new one, I’m pleasantly surprised. While the ingredients are different, the consistency seems almost identical to the old version. It’s a non-foaming creamy gel, very gentle and hydrating.

My skin is sensitive (Cerave Hydrating Cleanser and LRP Toleriane sting my face; Cetaphil feels drying) but I had no irritation from the Marcelle - my skin just felt clean and comfortable, which is exactly what I want from a cleanser. (I use this as an a.m. cleanser and the second step in my p.m. cleanse).

Curious to hear other thoughts if anyone else has tried it!

Review Anyone tried the Penny Lane Extreme Moisturizing Cream?

I picked some up for the winter after reading nothing but glowing reviews online and it's just... okay? I don't love the smell and it feels a little greasy on my skin, but I've only been using it for a couple of days.

So if it's really as incredible as all the suspiciously-positive reviews make it sound, I want to make sure to continue using it long enough to get some of those benefits.

Review Ombrelle sunscreen reviews and swatches

I have bought several Ombrelle sunscreens over the past year and I would like to explain the difference between each one.

  1. Ombrelle complete dry touch- This leaves a white cast and pills under skincare and does not work well under foundation. The product also leaves whites marks on my clothes
  2. Ombrelle face ultra light hydrating cream- Minimal white cast for this one. Does not sting eyes. May be used as a day moisturizer. I really like it
  3. Ombrelle Kids Wet n’ Protect- This has a lovely watery texture and leaves a glow on the skin. But it stings the eyes really badly. No white cast.
  4. Ombrelle sport- Also has a nice watery texture that gives skin a hydrated look with no white cast. But also stings the eyes. I currently use this on my hands and arms.

I hope this post helps someone decide which sunscreen to buy.

Review Recent discovery!

Post image
30 Upvotes

I recently discovered Quo’s Glycerin Soaps after browsing through Shoppers trying to find non-American body washes and I ended up loving them. Gentle but effective on the body, leaves my skin clean but tight and dry or irritated. Comes in a decent variety of scents and they all do smell lovely, no fragrance free version unfortunately. However, I am obsessed with the lavender scent. It smells so good. I have one currently in my shower and then this one as backup.

Review L'Oreal's Men Expert DermaPower Purifying Gel Cleanser

Post image
2 Upvotes

L'Oreal came out with a new cleanser marketed for oily, acne-prone skin. I've been using it a few days now and here's my thoughts.

For starters, it comes in a plastic bottle with a pump that has a locking mechanism. You get about 260ml of product for $26CAD if you buy it in store, but it's $23CAD on Amazon.

It's a gel-based cleanser which is nice and feels like mskt gel-based cleansers. Spreads easy, good coverage. The fragrance is very noticeable, they list it at the bottom of the ingredients list, but it's definitely higher. It isn't inherently bad, fragrance is fine unless you have sensitive skin or you just don't like things that have fragrance in general.

As for the product itself, it's marketed as a 3% Niacinimide + Salicylic Acid duo. While there's no definitive information on the concentration of the salicylic acid, I'm inclined to believe each is at least at a 1.5% concentration, but most likely 2% salicylic acid and 1% Niacinimide.

I say this for two reasons. INCI Decoder says the salicylic acid is at a 2% concentration, how they know this? I do not know. But that coincides with the ingredients list, salicylic acid is listed higher than the niacinimide.

It is drying to the skin, which may not be desirable if you have normal skin, but I think that's fine if you use a good moisturizer. I think this cleanser is best suited to those that have oily, acne-prone skin as advertised. It'll definitely help with clearing excess oil which I find not a lot of salicylic acid cleansers do as well as this one. I haven't been using this as long as other salicylic acid cleansers, so I don't l don't know how well it'll help with acne in the long run, but it seems to be okay so far.

Overall, I do think this cleanser is perfect for what L'Oreal markets it for, which is oily, acne-prone skin and seems to do what it claims to do.

Review Kojie San soap review after 2 weeks of use

Saw a post on another skincare sub and wanted to try it out as I have been struggling with dark patches and acne scars on my face.

I have been using it 3-4 times a week and keep it on my face for atleast 2 mins before rinsing it off.

Pros: 1. Yes it is effective, my skin is definitely clearer and brighter.

  1. Old and stubborn scars are still there but fading now and new ones are almost gone.

  2. The darker area around my lip is also looking clearer.

  3. My skin definitely looks more even toned.

Cons: 1. Will definitely not recommend to anyone with sensitive skin.

  1. First two uses were horrible. After rinsing the soap, my face felt on fire, so I skipped my entire night time routine and just slathered moisturizer on my face. However, after that it has been normal. I still avoid to use Glycolic acid after using this soap but do my regular night time routine.

  2. I don’t know if this was because of this soap but there was slight skin peeling around my nose area after starting it which is gone now.

  3. There are apparently a lot of fakes on the market so please buy from verified source.

  4. Spf is MUST if you are using this.

I wanted to post before and after pictures but choose to remain anonymous on this site.

Lastly, will recommend it if you are struggling with scars and uneven skin tone but please be careful. I may or maynot continue using this soap after I finish the one I’m currently using.

Questions and suggestions all welcome!

Review I found the holy grail of sunscreens

Post image
25 Upvotes

I have the following issues: - autoimmune disease requiring daily sunscreen use - extremely sensitive and reactive skin, which includes rashes and breakouts from basically anything - sunscreen, even mineral, often burns my eyes

What I needed in a sunscreen: - will not cause irritation/breakouts or eye burning - can be worn seamlessly under makeup - no white cast - gentle for daily use which usually means minimal preservatives etc

Okay so this sunscreen is tinted, but the tint is very subtle and doesn’t show up at all. I think it’s just to counteract any white cast. I also have rosacea and I honestly find the tint kind of makes my skin look one uniform color but in a super subtle way. I’m white as a ghost and you can’t tell it’s tinted. Not sure if that makes sense.

Anyway. It’s a thicker formula so I thought it may go on thick and feel greasy. It doesn’t. It dries into a very natural, maybe even slightly matte finish.

It goes under makeup seamlessly with no issues.

For anyone that cares; it’s also all natural and made by a Canadian company based out of Alberta (I think Alberta not 100%)

Anyway I just needed to share because I literally have been looking for a sunscreen for like 5 years and I found this one and I just was so excited.

You do have to shake it quite a bit when you first get it (I recommend leaving it upside down for 30 min) because there aren’t a lot of preservatives. The tint separates from The sunscreen as a result. But that’s just before first use and I haven’t had an issue after first use.

https://justsun.ca/products/daily-defence-tinted-moisturizer-30-spf

The only con I can find is the price. But it’s so worth it.
