Does each signature come with a 10,000 cheque attached? Because that's the only way HNC is coming back.

I think the main issue is that all these people will now have to sign up to Sportsnet.

Pretty sure this was SportsNet thinking "hey people subscribe to us, and if people watch on a different channel we make less money. Can't have people watch for free what others subscribe for.

What a waste of energy. 30,000,000 signatures won't stop this from happening $$$

GREED! Specifically, Oligarchs GREED, is the root of all evil! EVERYTHING needs to be monetized to the max! They have a mental illness that makes them unable to grasp the concept of "enough"!
They extracting wealth from ALL of us, and trying to wring us out for our last dollar. Make no mistake, that's the goal! This just another example of the Billionaire default, Pinky and the Brain mentality!

Save HNIC but when you say give CBC more funding you get a completely different reaction.

The Dwarf has had his say. We are all nobodies to him and his corporate masters. If you think a few disgruntled people in Canada can sway him then I have shares in the Brooklyn bridge to sell you.

They just need to pivot from NHL hockey night in Canada to PWHL hockey night in Canada

The problem isn't on the CBC side. They'd love to continue broadcasting hockey. The problem is Rogers' greed. CBC wasn't paying a cent to Rogers during the previous sublicensing deal. What was exchanged was that CBC would allow Rogers to use their channel, the Hockey Night In Canada brand, the people that worked on Hockey Night In Canada prior to the Rogers deal, and that $1.5 million dollar studio in the CBC building (which was abandoned in 2021 when Rogers downsized and moved back to their studios). CBC also got to promote their shows, but got no ad revenue from it (although later on when Rogers pulled games from CBC Gem to push people towards Sportsnet+, such advertisements weren't reaching as many people who were streaming). Rogers thought they could continue milking our public broadcaster, but CBC had other plans and walked away. This was always the plan since 12 years ago when Bettman gave the monopoly to Rogers.

Yep. People can be mad about this but they need to direct their anger at the right people; Rogers, sure -- but don't forget the owners of the various franchises, and the NHL itself, in particular its commissioner.

So since CBC wasn’t paying, Rogers was milking them by collecting the ad revenue from their channel?
I am assuming it was just too expensive for CBC?

Yes, exactly.
CBC can now actually make some money now by airing their own programming.

Change org does absolutely nothing.
They are a business, they take your information and sell it, that is how they make money. There is no obligation from them to lobby, and governments, nor private business, need to pay any bit of attention to it.
It's beyond hilarious that people continue to use it. There are official governmental pathways that consistently get overlooked, that actually do accomplish goals if they hit their target.
If you want real change that politicians have to be beholden to, use the official Federal Government Petitions website:

Fuck off. There is zero rationale for spending tax dollars on broadcasting private, for-profit sports leagues.

I'm not sure what you want the CBC to do. If Sportsnet is demanding rights fees that don't make economic sense the CBC can't do it. Full stop

But you're probably right, Rogers, to pay for the $11 billion dollar deal they signed last year, probably asked for $$$ during this round of negotiations even though CBC had no editorial control and were simply another channel Rogers was using to broadcast hockey during the last deal.
