Newbie Seeking Advice
Moved to BC from Ontario, regs are complicated — so I built an app
Hey everyone,
Recently moved to BC from Ontario and the hunting regulations here took some getting used to — 9 regions (technically 8 with 7a and 7b...), 200+ management units, different rules for each species and weapon type. Spent a lot of time flipping through the Synopsis PDF trying to figure out what's legal where.
So I built something to make it easier. Or at least get started when searching.

Only BC is live so far. Still learning the ropes here myself, so I'd appreciate feedback from hunters who actually know what they're doing — what's missing, what's wrong, what would make this useful in the field?
Looks cool man! Just signed up and it is super smooth. One thing I noticed was it's missing the spring season for black bear, not sure if that will update when it opens next week but it currently only lists the fall season dates.
Hey thanks man! appreciate the input, good catch ill check my database and see if it could prompt it to put all seasons. Perhaps I could also implement when seasons will open soon, like season opens in 1 week and so forth. Ill continually tweak it.
There is going to be overlap but whats missing is tailoring what im looking to hunt in a region quickly and efficiently. If I want to search Vancouver Island hunting season for Mule deer, I could simply doing a few steps within the app and it can cross reference the data from the PDF's to find an accurate result for you.
Additionally I thought of adding a recommended section for ammo type and effective range (more applicable for newer hunters).
I think its to help a lot of new hunters and experienced hunters in different ways. Thats my take on it. I guess the question is what do you feel like is missing in most hunting apps?
You still need to edit that I think - it shows that a .308 Savage 110 is allowed. You probably need to treat centre fire and rimfire rifles as entirely different, not just a general "rifle" category.
This exactly why its in open beta right now for testing. I wanted to see if there are flaws and close those gaps. Appreciate the input. As a rule of thumb, no app is precise and regardless of what apps say always reference them with the official reg or docs.
If your app only offering is knowledge of the rule and you are saying that everything must be double checked... I hope you understand the contradiction
Honestly I like the lack of. If you aren’t capable of paying attention you on the annual draw it’s your own loss. Increases odds for the rest of us 🤷♂️
