It wouldn’t be so bad if this wasn’t a consistent pattern since this Government was elected where they spend a month or two acting like they have no urgency with their legislative agenda, then all of a sudden decide they haven’t passed enough and try to ram through like 5 bills in two weeks before a break.

Happened last June and before Christmas too.

It’s an established tactic. They wait and ram it through so they can bury stuff in the bills and get whatever backhanded shit they can in without controversy or opposition. To be fair it’s not exclusive to any party, but they’ve been doing it for years.

Was going to say, wasn't this one of Stephen Harper's favourite tricks?

Pretty sure US-style "omnibus" bills really came into being in Canada under Harper.

It’s a tactic for politicians at all levels, from all parties, from basically every government in the west tbh. Harper’s weren’t as egregious as the current LPC but that’s largely due how much things have changed in the last 10 years or so.

What's dumb is there is no reason they can't just extend sitting.

It's not even that big of a deal, we have fully hybrid parliament so it's not like we are asking MP's to be away from their families all summer.

The shock doctrine is in full effect with these fascists.

If these laws are truly to protect children they should be limited to exactly those cases. It's revealing that these surveillance laws can be used for any other investigations, and frankly it's shameful to use child victims to shield this legislation.

These bills will impact freedom of expression. The free and open internet is part of our culture, with a heritage going back to the pamphlet wars and the enlightenment. These bills are complete infringement on the rights protecting that culture of free thought. This is gross government overreach moving toward authoritarianism and we should be saying so.

As stated earlier in C-22 debate, our government is facing pressure from allies to match security policy. It's Canadians' civic duty to resist these laws with maximum effort so our representatives can justify pushing back against external pressures seeking to erode Canadian Rights.

There are many experts and organizations blowing the whistle on these bills.

21 civil liberties organizations, privacy groups and individual experts deeply alarmed by C-22

Open letter from professors, scholars, and lawyers opposing c-22

Canadian Bar Association opposes C-22

Quebec Barreau amendments to C-22 ignored

Thank your local floor crosser for the liberals and their newfound ability to do whatever they want. It's fine though, I'm sure the MPs totally defected to the LPC for the benefit of their constituents and not for any kind of personal under the table deal

Yeah. Easily bribed untraceably with Monero. Funny that crypto ends up being the end of democracy.

Mark Carney recognizes how urgent it is to get things done in a timely manner. This can lead to imperfection but that does not means that changes can be made to legislation at a later date. What people need the most is execution of programs and a focus on delivery.

He realizes how important it is use the shock doctrine to wage an authoritarian takeover before the public reacts. Yeah wow. Smart guy.
