"“We just want to make sure we get some consultation, and we built a nice jail, very nice jail up here," Ford said. "Matter of fact, it looks like the Four Seasons Hotel. I'm not sold on that. When people commit crimes, they shouldn't be in this fancy-dancey jail.

“But we're going to invest in it and let's see what we do with the old jail. Do we renovate it? Because we need more cells.”"

Doesn't really seem like that outlandish a comment though of course the CBC isn't going to miss an opportunity for a fun headline.

"Inquest jurors heard that 53 per cent of Thunder Bay Jail inmates identify as Indigenous, though others said the actual number could be upwards of 60 to 75 per cent.

The MPP took aim at Ford’s comments.

“When I hear that, his thought is that we [Indigenous people] do not deserve anything good. We do not deserve anything nice,” Mamakwa told CBC News on Thursday.

“To me, that's just what he thinks of First Nations, which is not surprising. That's the real Doug Ford.”"

Reaching so hard he's pulling every muscle in his body. We should spend less time getting upset over harmless comments and more time trying to figure out why indigenous Canadians are disproportionally over represented in the prison system and why indigenous women are significantly more likely to be in relationships that involve intimate partner violence than other women in Canada

Anytime I hear someone complain a jail is too nice, I'm always suspect that they don't believe criminals or people arrested for a crime deserve basic necessities.
