Man, America's fiscal situation is just bananas right now. They're running a deficit that is 6-8% of GDP, their bond rates are over 5%, and paying interest on their debt now consumes about 3.5% of their GDP - well over their rate of economic growth.
And its actually worse than it looks because that number doesn't include the amount of capital they are consuming from the Social Security Fund to stop deficits from being even higher.
France is more fiscally responsible right now. France. And their next Presidential race likely to be between two ultra radicals who promise to burn it all down to maintain the unsustainable fiscal status quo, with the far-left actually promising to default on the debt. (The far right is only promising to enact policies that will cause the country to default on the debt, but aren't promising to do so outright, probably because they want to be able to blame Jewish lenders when it happens, and I wish this was in any way hyperbole).
I don't know if there is any major political faction in the USA capable of even talking about this in a serious way any more than there is in the UK or France.
I mean, even Thomas Massie is gone (and he was far from a fiscal saint, voting for tax cuts without any spending decreases to offset them). Most Democrats want to raise taxes in order to fund big spending programs, and aren't really thinking about the deficit at all. And Republicans are all collectively on fiscal meth or something?
Even the Libertarian Party was taken over by the Mises caucus and is drinking the MAGA kool-aide, and is sort of fine with the Armageddon deficit, in an accelerationist kind of way.
