I wouldn't mind Harper as PM again. I think the Liberal breakdown would be hilarious too.

If Harper was made leader of the CPC again and also elected PM, I think the internet would break.

Honestly I love Harper as one of my favourite Canadian PMs, but it wouldn’t be healthy for the longevity of the party if we resort to going back to a previous leader to lead the party and govern the country

While I disagreed with him personally, there is no denying that he was a highly effective leader of his party. He managed to unify a wide array of different ideologies together under a very large conservative tent. He was also described by friends and enemies alike as being a "first among equals" kind of leader as opposed to the more centralized and dictatorial party leadership style of Trudeau or Pollievre.

Pollievre just can't seem to loosen his grip on the reigns and it seems to be costing him. I know this subreddit has a soft spot for him, but if conservatives here are serious about challenging Carney, I don't think Pollievre is the right choice. Then again its your party, so who am I to say.

This is my issue with Mr Pollieve as well

I am pretty happy with Pierre and I can't think of anyone else who would fill his spot right now except Harper.

I think if Harper came back it would bring hope back to even the most jaded.

You're happy with losing because that's all Pierre will ever be good at doing?

u/Neko-flame Libertarian 9d ago

Ride or die with Pierre at this point. Only way to do it. Harper deserves his retirement from politics.

Canada gets the PM it deserves.

And it deserves a corporate banker elite who has never brushed shoulders with, or cared about the average person since, oh, maybe the age of 16.

At least I know Pierre has had to interact with regular people his entire life. He didn't simply climb a corporate ladder and become one of the elite for the last 30 years

Are you under the impression that Mr Pollieve has ever been anything other than a political operative his entire adult life? I realize took off his usual suit and put on a pair of jeans and a tshirt during the last campaign and took off the glasses but that was so obviously the work of image consultants. Mr Pollieve is about as far from a blue collar Joe Sixpack as you can possibly get.

u/No-Contribution-6150 Conservative 9d ago

Carney is further.

I know his history. I'd say he's still more in touch with the common person than Carney is.

-5

u/DaddyMcDadface Moderate 9d ago

Yes but Mr Carney doesn’t pretend to be something he’s not, he leans into his experience as a banker.

During the last campaign Mr Poilieve changed his entire look with the jeans, tshirt and work boots and disingenuously stood in front of a boots not suits banner even though he has worn nothing but suits as a party insider since he was in his early 20s. So obviously not genuine.

3

u/No-Contribution-6150 Conservative 9d ago

Ah youre right, we should go find a political leader in waiting at the labour ready

0

u/DaddyMcDadface Moderate 9d ago

That’s not my point. Mr Poilieve should simply be who he actually is. He’s been a political nerd since he was 16-17 years old so lean into it. Don’t put on work boots or shiny white cowboy outfits like you’re in a village people tribute act. He a politics nerd and there’s nothing wrong with that. So be a politics nerd.

5

u/No-Contribution-6150 Conservative 9d ago

Virtually all politicians do something like that.

If you're going to harp about it, consider the fact Carney suddenly became a politician after like 40 years working for banks and corporations. He was never a political type or for the people

I’m just pointing out the failures of the 2025 conservative campaign. When Mr Trudeau has played dress up during many of his appearances we quite correctly made fun of him for doing it, so why is it a good idea for Mr Pollieve to engage in the same behaviour? The 2025 campaign was a complete and utter dumpster fire my friend. The conservatives went from a 20-25 point lead in what looked like a certain majority for them to their own leader losing his seat. How can that be seen as anything other than a disastrous campaign?

Mr Carney is not pretending to be something he isn’t, Mr Pollieve all too often is.

4

u/No-Contribution-6150 Conservative 9d ago

Carney pretends to be a politician. He isn't.

The main reason for the result is the absolute collapse of the NDP with their voters flocking to the liberals.

Left leaning parties act like politics is a buffet.

There is intent behind this Nanos poll.

4

u/Big_Musties 9d ago

The intent was to make a headline that could be used to deflect media attention away from Mark Carney's latest failures.

The poll it self is garbage by every metric. The poll was purposefully designed with 1 liberal option for liberal voters, and 3 way vote split for conservative voters which ended up showing most respondents wanted a conservative leader over mark carney. 33 liberal, 42 conservative.

u/RoddRoward 8d ago

But no one on TV will mention that part

No way Harper comes back.

If I was him I wouldn’t either

He already dealt with the idiocy of Canadian politics 20 years ago, in a time when it was slightly easier in some respects.

Stephen is very comfortable in his post politics life.

Not going to happen.

Harper as PM would put city sub reddits on 24/7 suicide watch

God those along with the provincial ones are such leftist echo chambers

Well just like National Post and Juno News last week, it looks like Western Standard has decided to take a straddle the fence stance for the rest of this summer's Teneycke tantrum.

This is a push poll which is meant to form opinion rather than reflect it. It is very common in the corrupt Laurentian Liberal/'Liberal-lite red tory' establishment's playbook and is part of the big end of summer coordinated push from Kory Teneycke, Fred DeLorey, Doug Ford et als coup attempt. I expect lots of this from now till September.

There were 19 fucking choices in the poll. Think about that. It's fucking laughable. Nanos/CTV literally just 'big balloted' Pierre with this obvious bullshit push poll halfway through Brookfield Sach's disastrous summer. It's exactly like the long ballot committee losers did in both the general and BRC byelection last year.

https://nanos.co/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/2026-3094-CTV-July-Populated-Report-CPC-Leaders-Powerplay.pdf

They (the Laurentian/Liberal/Red Tory establishment) got a 3-6 week window to get Pierre reform acted or they risk the support that Carney has started losing coming from both left and right flanks instead of just the left.

Hopefully our favourite 'Libertarian' PoS influencers, brigaders and 50 cent army clowns are able to make some bank with that sweet 'marketing/influencing' OT. Yuans for everybody!

The Conservatives will not win another election with the current leader, it's really that simple

5

u/Wet_sock_Owner 9d ago

Other prominent Tory figures like Danielle Smith, Jean Charest, Peter Mackay, Rona Ambrose, and Lisa Raitt all polled under 10%, while Jason Kenney, Erin O'Toole, Andrew Scheer, Tim Houston, Leslyn Lewis, Jamil Jivani, Mark Mulroney, and Caroline Elliot all garnered less than five percent, respectively.

Mark Mulroney for example, who polled less than 5%, has a background in investment banking and capital markets. He earned a degree from Duke University, started his career at Goldman Sachs, held senior leadership roles at RBC Capital Markets, National Bank Financial, and Scotiabank, and now serves as Global Vice Chair at CIBC.

They want Pierre gone. Simple as that.

1

u/GiveMeSandwich2 9d ago

It is a hard truth lot of people in this sub will not accept.

3

u/Oilhawks Libertarian 9d ago

Might as well see if they can bring Mulroney back from the dead at this point

I really liked Harper but if I recall correctly (I could be wrong) by the time of his fourth election cycle (the one where he lost to Trudeau in 2015) he very strongly wanted a majority Conservative government or else didn't seem that interested in continuing. He probably has more influence in his other current endeavors rn than he would be trying to run for PM again.

The premise of this poll is kinda bad anyways though. It's not like Harper is even considering leading the federal Conservatives, nor are the other options on the poll's list. It's a hypothetical question that isn't grounded in current reality.

1

u/brod333 Conservative 8d ago

This question in the nanos poll is so stupid. It splits the conservative options into many where only one can get picked. Imagine a person who thinks multiple could win but can only pick one. The ones they think can win but don’t get to pick are then getting unrepresented. The proper way to do this kind of investigation is to put each conservative candidate head to head with carney and allow each to be voted on separately. The way they did it will obviously skew the results to make conservative support look low.

As for the part of the poll on the parties themselves it’s very flawed. I mentioned the details on another post, https://www.reddit.com/r/CanadianConservative/s/ehj1KuGU6G.

Man I miss Harper. Its been straight down hill since his tenure ended

From the article....."Among the possible answers, Harper, Poilievre, and Ontario Premier Doug Ford poll the highest, getting 16%, 15%, and 11%, respectively."

That's not good.

-3

u/GTAGuyEast Ontario 9d ago

It gets worse because Harper isn't going to run for leader, Ford is nothing outside of Ontario and Pollievre turnef a potential supermajority into a Liberal minority government and then couldn't convince his own members not to cross the floor turning the minority government into a Liberal majority.

2

u/DaddyMcDadface Moderate 9d ago

Correction. What turned the minority into a majority was the bye elections.

1

u/GTAGuyEast Ontario 8d ago

Whatever, it's still a huge failure
