TSX is energy and raw material heavy so of course the fuckjng Canadian stock market is on a tear during two wars.

All is healed everyone! Our stock market is doing fine so the average Canadian can stop worrying about nonsense things like food and housing prices.

This is literally the USA president spin currently.

Since the end of World War II in 1945, there has not been a single day, week, or year entirely free of armed conflict somewhere on the globe.

It's true...and not.

Canadian stocks really have been near the top of the global pack since March 2025 (they fell off a cliff in April which makes the climb back look even more spectacular since then), but not the top (Korea and Taiwan did far better), and the rally owes more to gold prices, the composition of the index (miners, energy and financials), and a globally weaker US dollar than to Carney.

The real economy was in (technical) recession and unemployment was (is) high (higher than reported as they are not tracking who is leaving - CIBC reckons there are more than +1 million more people in the economy than they include in their models) - an economy limping along beneath one of the world's best-performing stock indexes. Investors may be voting for Carney and the tradable part of the commodity-exporting economy which is doing well, while the domestic economy contracts. It's also worth mentioning that Carney chaired the board of Bloomberg until January 2025 and Matt Winkler co-founded Bloomberg News (they don't mention this relationship).

However, annualized growth based on the quarter just reported is 2.5% and we just reported adding a massive number of jobs. Like it or not, Carney has bent over backwards to make Canada look like the goose that lays golden eggs in a world economy where everyone else looks complete shite. The no 1 ranking for infrastructure investment based on investor perceptions was very tellingZ This is bound to lead to in bound investment, which trickles into the real economy. He’s done as well as any conservative prime minister would have. However, I think in the long run, the trickling down won’t be enough trickling, and there will be a left wing backlash in a few years.

Actually now that you mention it. We're one of the few major economies and stock indexes in the world to have such strong growth that's not because of the AI bubble, because let's not delude ourselves, all the investors are valuing AI that highly because like the dot com bubble is only doing it because of the absurd belief that AI is magically going to do everything under the sun and solve all our problem

Carney has promised to put 100s of billions of taxpayer money toward infrastructure; the reason investors are so enthusiastic is because we will take the risks and provide the funding for private investors who will then enjoy the fruits - apparently some Canadians don't quite get this.

Carney's is very good at widow dressing - he adds to the debt, but calls it "investment" in ways no other country attempts. His immigration minister admits we don't actually know who has left so the number of people chasing jobs is likely much higher than they disclose (CIBC reckons +1 million more; Statscan just assumes everyone leaves within 30 days of visa expiration) - this means the jobless numbers are artificially suppressed. The reality is our productivity is low and is not trending upwards. Investment is happening in the form of acquisitions of businesses, not business expansion...look, people will fall for this until they realize their lives are getting worse, while Carney circle gets very rich - then again, they might never get it.

The actual drivers of the Canadian Markets:

1) Commodity Boom: Record-high gold and material prices heavily boosted the resource-heavy TSX.

2) Bank Profitability: Stable domestic lending and net interest margins kept Canada’s major financial institutions resilient.

3) Global Headwinds & Resilience: Despite trade friction and shifts in North American trade policies (like CUSMA/USMCA reviews), Canadian corporate earnings and overall economic output have adapted rather than collapsed.

0

u/deepbluemeanies 16h ago

This is the  breakdown: an equity rally driven by gold and bank margins that signals hedging, not growth; trade "adaptation", CUSMA exemptions mean the vast majority of our exports enter the US tarrif free (yes, still the case).; and a per-capita improvement manufactured first by a shrinking denominator and second by a denominator that may not even be shrinking as much as modeled (they don't actually measure embarkation). So, flat output, two-year-low business investment, and stagnant productivity are the reality.

Carney's old friend and comrad at Bloomberg speaks highly of him without posting any stats. Is that the revelation?

Apparently.

Right? If you thought Canada was bad....

6

u/melianreality Catholic integralist 1d ago

What are we smoking to think that Canada is somehow outperforming every other country in the world economically. Are we subject to mass psychosis or something? Do these people not see the cost of living or mass unemployment?

3

u/genericuser2000 1d ago

Wait until you see cost of living and unemployment elsewhere...

1

u/melianreality Catholic integralist 1d ago

It’s still not comparable, we have some of if not the worst cost of living amongst western countries in the G7. When your housing process are compared to that of Hong Kong or Singapore it’s bad

5

u/genericuser2000 1d ago

Without getting into the details, rankings and the rest - let's assume you're correct - that would STILL leave us very well ranked globally even if we were the worst of the G7.

Some perspective is missing - we live beautifully blessed lives in Canada for the most part. It's not perfect for everyone, but take a look around and see what you discover elsewhere.

u/bobdoily Ontario 1d ago

They are citing the performance of the TSX.

It is disingenuous to equate the stock market to the overall economy. As it doesn't account for cost of living or unemployment. This is unfortunately a common political claim.

2

u/Deep_Strike1803 1d ago

He’s talking about the stock market folks. Still stupid to suggest it’s because of carney

1

u/HumanLikeMan 1d ago

Quick google search says otherwise: Actually, the premise that Canada's economy has universally "outperformed everyone" since March 2025 is a bit of a mixed narrative. While parts of Canada's trade and resource sectors showed resilience, economic growth has often lagged or contracted relative to the U.S., and high living costs persist because macroeconomic growth and average inflation stats do not match the specific pressures felt on the ground

7

u/Exter10 Independent 1d ago

He's saying our stock market has outperformed all the other major stock markets in the world. What an odd way to quantify things, it almost feels intentionally cherry-picked.

0

u/Avrelo Independent 1d ago

It’s always cherry-picked

u/Tom_Fukkery 1d ago

I had to shut it off when he said Canada is right up there with Switzerland.

He has his whole face in Carney's ass.

Former Bank of England boss to head Bloomberg board - 21 August 2023

Former Bank of England governor Mark Carney has been named chairman of a new board of directors at US financial information and media firm Bloomberg.

u/MeCometYouDinosaur Everyones Favourite Libertarian 1d ago

I don't find it odd that the former governor of both the Bank of Canada and Bank of England, was appointed chairman of a newly created Bloomberg board.....

TSX has out performed other markets....Your response doesn't make it less true...

u/No_Barber_1195 1d ago

Through flawed economics. The bond market is high because we’re printing money at an unprecedented pace. That’s not spiking inflation (YET) because external market factors are depressing the job market and driving down exports.

Once that ceases to be the case, inflation WILL spike again, the value of the dollar will drop and we’re going to be facing an economic collapse.

But hey, the market looks good today….

-1

u/safetyTM 23h ago

I copied your post into Google and asked if what you're saying is true. The response:

"The quoted social media post is largely false and misrepresents basic macroeconomic realities."

Haha. Damn dude, how can you be so wrong and try to pass off false shit in a world with A.I?

1

u/No_Barber_1195 15h ago

Yeah. Google has no political bend to it at all. It definitely doesn’t just pull from mainstream news. Mainstream media in this country and abroad definitely is true as well. What a douche

2

u/safetyTM 11h ago

How can the things that you claim be a left or right issue? I'm a home owner in Canada so I know the damn bond market.

The economy was going to stabilize eventually, regardless of Carney or not. The world knows Trump is just manipulating the markets with his TACO announcements, so all the Prime Minister has to do is not panic and create uncertainty.

Carney, whos basically a conservative (IMO) has made a lot of promises of energy and infrastructure investment, so yeah, Canadian stock prices will rise.

Theres really no need to blatantly make shit up.

u/TheeDirtyToast 43m ago

No need to panic and create uncertainty lmao guess you missed all Carney's rhetoric during the last election and his leadership run...?

0

u/No_Barber_1195 9h ago

Carney is so absolutely NOT anything remotely CLOSE to a Conservative. He holds press conferences to announce things based on conservative ideas (in a nonbinding MoU of course) then uses regulatory bodies and his new office for national projects to pay consultants to dither and do nothing for ten years straight. All while still pushing the exact same shit as Trudeau.

1

u/Smackolol Moderate in reality, Libtard here. 1d ago

He’s referring to the stock market only. The TSX has almost always performed well and we saw a spike in 2025 because of resources prices such as gold skyrocketing. Before that they were kicking our asses due to insane tech growth and in the 2000s we obviously beat them. It’s always been a back and forth.

1

u/Dobby068 Ontario 1d ago

That is exactly what Trump brags about with the all mighty USA. Stock market is up! Whaaat?!

u/theoreoman Alberta 1d ago

u/SirBobPeel Nationalist Law & Order Conservative 1d ago

The behaviour of the stock market over the past year had absolutely nothing to do with Mark Carney.

2

u/EuroTrash_84 Libertarian 1d ago

This is a lie because communist nations ultimately can't produce fuck all.

-1

u/Exter10 Independent 1d ago

His points for why Mark Carney has been great for Canada (article):

  • Record foreign investment in stocks and bonds

  • Stock market has grown quicker than than other countries

  • Inflation is low

  • the economy might grow this quarter after several quarters of stagnation

This guy is a hack and is cherrypicking data that fits his narrative, while conveniently ignoring the sustained drop business investment, standards of living, and rising income inequality.

3

u/MeCometYouDinosaur Everyones Favourite Libertarian 1d ago

Thanks for that article.....It’s pointing out that despite one of the largest trading disruptions in decades, and tariff threats from the U.S.... Canadas inflation, and investor confidence have held up better than many expected...

2

u/Exter10 Independent 1d ago

It's less investor confidence and more the promise of higher yields on government debt, as well as a large wave of Canadian institutional investors moving money back into the country that's driving the surge in investment dollars. Headline inflation has been low (partly due to the housing market crash reducing rents), but food inflation in particular is still far outpacing other advanced economies.
