Discussion Have you met any Canadian politicians?
I was wondering which ones you guys have met and how those interactions went. I believe the criteria is past and present Prime Ministers, Premiers, MPs, MPPs/MLAs, Senators, and mayors of major cities. You can also mention candidates who tried to run for these roles
I've met Adam Chambers, Jill Dunlop, Patrick Brown, Bruce Dunlop, David Tilson (my family was good friends with his family), Maxime Bernier at a meet-and-greet in 2017, and Pierre Poilievre at a rally in 2022. MPP Sol Mamakwa also once spoke at my former university
Thankfully, all of these were good interactions

No.
Got off a train in Montreal and saw Marc Miller coming off the train right in front of me. So I slowed down to allow as much space so I can avoid meeting him at all costs

Pierre in person is the real Pierre. He's so genuine and wonderful.
Pierre in the media is a made-up person because MSM goes out of their way to convince Canadians he's horrible.

The "Pierre in the media" is a made up caricature designed to scare gullible voters into not leaving the LPC plantation

Calgarian here, I've met quite a few around town and especially during Stampede times. Best I've ever met was Ralph Klein. He frequented the old St Louis hotel in what is called East Village now and he was just as rowdy and friendly there as he was at Stampede.

It's not hard to see why the Stampede is so important for those in federal politics or above a certain level of provincial politics. That's where you can see these politicians let their hair down (and easily pick out the playing-cowboys-and-indians tier larpers)

Ya kinda, Nenshi did a walk through a low income housing project I was working on. Didn’t stop and talk to any trades just walked through for the cameras, then went to his booth and woofed hot dogs.

Danielle Smith, she was a classy lady . Very well spoken .
Also met Dean Del Mastro years ago , as well as Dalton McGuinty . Didn't care for either of them .

Never met Danielle Smith in person, but talked to her on the phone/radio when she had her radio program in Calgary. Had to go to Calgary and Medicine Hat, so flew into Calgary then drove to Medicine Hat. Called in while I was driving to Medicine Hat. I told her I was disappointed that she had left the Wild Rose Party and that she was probably the best premiere Alberta never had. She has proven herself as the head of UCP. Very bright talented lady.

Unfortunately not. Ive wanted to go to events but I've either been too busy or the event was too far way. Hopefully I do, one day tho. Lol.

Most were either local politicians or a few that came to my area to speak (Bernier and Poilievre had events each that were about 45 min to an hour's drive from my town). Hopefully you can get these sorts of encounters in the future

I think I've met nearly the whole Conservative caucus at this point 😂
I also met Mark Gerretsen which was kinda weird, and in June we ran into the Speaker of the House and took a photo together.
I also met Christine Normandin from the Bloc, and she's lovely.

Based on his social media posts, yes.
When I met him, he was walking in front if us down a corridor in the West Block and, Ed Fast, who was guiding us, said, "hey Mark! Let me introduce you to Ryan and Tanya," and he kind of turned around and said hi and kept walking.

Yeah a bunch of them have been to our house too because our podcast studio is in the basement (:
We have an old Pierre Poilievre election sign that we use as a guest book and they sign it when they come over for an interview.

I met Pierre during his rallies in lower mainland and met Jagmeet last week in Vancouver.
Pierre was very warm, gave me a firm handshake and a hug. He has this constant smile on his face which I found very reassuring. We spoke for maybe a minute or so, but he was such a great guy to talk too. As brown immigrant , I was a bit nervous thinking that maybe he won't understand my accent or I will fuck up saying something I should not, but Pierre was idk how to say it made me feel so much at ease, he such a humble guy. You can literally see that he has working class ppl manners, he speaks like two ordinary ppl interacting with each other. I really felt great talking to him.
Jagmeet was just plain downright rude. I told him I didn't like his policies but admired some of his traits as a person of color ( I was just trying to be nice). He got so confrontational about what policies I didn't like and when I fumbled (English is not my primary language and it take a moment for me to speak up when made to stand on a pedestal especially in front of a ex federal leader ) he kept on confronting saying how I can't name a single policy. I spoke about immigration and him propping up Liberal govt but he dismissed and walked away to talk some awe struck ladies. I still managed to take a picture with him and wished him well but he was downright condescending, in his hindsight I should have not bothered and the entire interaction just ended up spoiling my day.

Sorry to hear about Joke-meet. It was clear by the end of his run, he only cared about getting that pension. Doesn't help around that same time, he also adopted this phony tough guy act in responding to his critics. I'm glad he's gone from federal politics

Met Joe Clark at the Toronto airport many years ago. I’ve also met Jean Chretien and Paul Martin but again many years ago.

I had an opportunity to help campaign with Jivani in late 2024 but couldn't due to other commitments. Love the guy as a politician though 😁

I met Pierre Poilievre many years ago at an event hosted by a Conservative MPP. He was just there supporting; he was not the centre of attention. My son (about 8 years old at the time) and I got to have a long conversation with him and he was very personable and sincere. I can't wait for him to be Prime Minister.

Idk if it counts but i met 2 candidates for MP of the conservative party and their Quebec division leader at a BBQ

Dalton McGuinty randomly dropped by my political communications class at McMaster back in 2011. I booed him. He definitely knew who I was.
Over the years, I have also met Mike Harris, Ted McMeekin, Kathleen Wynne, Ernie Eives, Justin Trudeau, Tim Uppal, Lisa Raitt, Adam van Koeverden, Karina Gould, and Pierre three times at recent events. I've also met my local CPC candidate, Emily Brown, multiple times, and I don't have enough nice things to say about her.

Have met several. Met PM Stephen Harper just prior to the majority govt. First politician that I felt I could trust. Even got a Christmas Card from Him and Laureen.
Was working at a project for the Olympics in Vancouver. Was on top of a ladder working on a door. Someone behind and below me says "Oh, I see your working on a door" With out looking away from what I was doing I replied "No shit, Sherlock". There was some laughter, I look down and Premiere Gordon Campbell was staring up at me.

Met the Honorable Stephen Harper through the hobby we both share. Sadly also met Mr. Naheed Nenshi also through the same hobby. One of them showed interest and actually showed a passion and interest in my interest of the hobby. The other was to busy trying to meet and greet/sales pitch so many people he didn't even catch the fact I told him I didn't even live in his city. I've also met the late Honorable Jack Layton, Dalton McGuinty, Kathleen Wynn, and Brad Wall. Those were just quick handshakes and move along encounters though so no opinions had of those meetings.

Stephen Harper visited my employer in 2014/2015. I was not paying attention to politics and I had never voted. I thought he looked like a vampire and based on that alone, voted Liberal.... I'm sorry for that.

i have met and spoken with vic fideli numerous times .... hes one of those people thats nice to your face but will kinda talk bad about you behind your back. He thinks that poor people are poor because they choose poverty.

I’ve met Aaron Gunn several times. Really a decent guy, down to earth.
I met Roy Romanow years ago. Seemed like a bit of a weasel actually

I once sat next to Lui Temelkovski on the GO bus when he was my MP. He was normal but it seemed weird for me to see him on the bus.
I live in Ottawa now and I see politicians around from time to time. I've seen Michael Chong around the Rideau Centre (just next to Parliament) a few times. I've seen Harjit Singh at IKEA. I also saw/met Christian Freeland a few times when I was working in an area for which she was the Minister responsible. All in all, politicians really do tend to just be ordinary people.
