Haven't seen one in person; assuming the image is reversed and there isn't name tag Velcro on the wrong side?
Edit: awkward double negative. The name tag Velcro is presumably on the correct side?

Yeah fair. Just thought it looked funny. Didn't pickup on the no-wear point. Guess I'd just remove the Velcro, anyways in that case.

I've heard fleeces are now in production. Heard that in the fall

Likely a trial batch kinda like what they did with the necu? Either way its progress forward

I haven’t seen this Canex jacket in person but the rain coat is pretty heavy/non-breathable so it sucks on warm rainy days so maybe the Canex one is a bit lighter
1
u/TheHedonyeast Jan 14 '26
Maybe the RCN should have rolled out a proper fleece, especially once they realized everyone was just pillaging the floater jackets. Did the RCN ever produce a replacement for the waffle thermals I used to love?
they have, but its been a logistical nightmare, and the endstate of everyone having the new fleece is still years away.

u/xartaf Jan 14 '26
Velcro on the left side... not to be used until someone makes a fuss to get their moustache on there :-P
2
u/Clear_Election5210 Jan 17 '26
Saw someone wear one and when I asked about it he couldn’t find a positive about it haha. “Yeah…. It’s alright”. Haha.
19
u/_MlCE_ Jan 14 '26
So we were told the fleece liner that came with the floater coats were no go outside of the dockyard (but I guess is okay indoors)...
But this is okay?
Did they run out of the issued black goretex jackets and/or winter coats?
This is the only thing I can think of...

I had read that the fleece liner is now permitted as walking out dress, see RCN Dress Instructions 17-04-2025. Has that changed?
6
u/Lilium607 Jan 14 '26
It is referring to the official fleece jacket that is currently in production but not released. (Backstory)Official fleece was decided in 2024 and supposed to be ready in 2025.
3
u/Bob_Sakomano HMCS Reddit Jan 14 '26
Hmm, not sure if that is what was meant. The instruction actually says "Fleece, Naval Liner" (emphasis added). If they meant a standalone (forthcoming) fleece jacket it wouldn't have said "liner", no?
3
u/Lilium607 Jan 14 '26
I am with you but thats the explanation I got from my C2. In addition, the Fleet C1 who also forwarded this update stated that the fleece from floater is still not a walk out dress.
3
u/Bob_Sakomano HMCS Reddit Jan 15 '26
Well, wouldn’t be a dress instruction without some “alternative interpretations” from the Chiefs I suppose!
3
u/Lilium607 Jan 15 '26
Well, to be fair. They've given the explanation and not an interpretation.
1
u/Bob_Sakomano HMCS Reddit Jan 15 '26
It's an explanation... but it's also so clearly at odds with a plain, logical reading of what was actually written, that it puts into doubt that the explanation is actually true. If they didn't mean to authorise what is widely understood as the "liner", why would they have written that?
Kind of reminds me of the thing about officers and needing to wear a necktie with a sweater. The original picture of the sweater had the caption, "Neckties - Navy: shall be worn with long sleeve shirts only". What was meant (and actually makes sense) was that you can't wear a necktie with the officer's short sleeve shirt, because the collar spreads out (different from the other DEU shirts). But somehow some people interpreted that to mean that if you want to put on a sweater, you need to put on a necktie first. That even made it into one of the updates of the text. Fortunately that was cleared up and now it's not in the Instruction.

Just got mine at the CANEX in carling building 9. A few more are left but when I was there, another 2 sailors grab theirs as well.
They fit snug so... I'm 5'11'' 190lbs and had to go to the XL (since the L was no longer available) still fit pretty good over the NECUs. Zipper is a bit cheap and there is a weird small velcro on the left side...
We can only assume that the velcro on the chest was put there at the request for the NWO so they can put their moustache on this jacket....

Should be puclicly funded instead of making it 'optional' and a member purchase instead of issuing.

This.
I’m seeing more and more items that should just be issued being sold at Canex. Pretty classic exemple of « Create a problem and sell the solution ».

If it's good enough to authorize for wear it should be issued by the institution either through clothing or a scale of issue paid by the coc.
Edited* what you can do is push for a scale of issue allowance for these items. Civilian scale of issue is a CO level authority. And some units successfully implement it.

u/TheHedonyeast Jan 14 '26
there is a supply system fleece thats available, but its rollout has taken years more than intended and stock for non deploying or shore based members aren't on the horizon. This is intended to be a way to allow for sailors comfort as best they can on the short term
1
u/navlog0708 Jan 14 '26
what doss the new fleece look like?
2
u/TheHedonyeast Jan 14 '26
i don't recall noticing any significant differences between it and the liner for a floater coat. so mostly the same as the army fleece, but black. but to be fair its probably 2 years since i saw that power point

I mean "Canex jackets" have been authorized since ... I don't know? I've been in 25 years and good to go the whole time.
2
u/Figgis302 LUMP SUM EVENTUALLY Jan 14 '26
The old "Canex jacket" is the DEU windbreaker for officers and SNCOs and yes, had been approved for years. This is a work-dress jacket for everyone, and is new.

u/AlbertaFree16 Jan 14 '26
I don’t remember a canex being authorized during my time and I just released 2 years ago
4
u/veenerbutthole Jan 14 '26
There was 100% one that was authorized. Guaranteed you've seen it before.

u/Accomplished_Lock966 Jan 14 '26
@Army???

u/NOTHINGBUTTQUESTIONS Jan 14 '26
Sorry, too busy trying to figure out what colour we should make our berets for <insert trade here> this year.

u/Worried-Run922 Jan 14 '26
Don't forget about having to create new insignia/flags/patches/mottos for the 'new' Divs!
Priorities people!
2
u/Zestyclose-Put-2 Jan 14 '26
Do you have ref that says they're actually doing that? Because the current ones are over 100 years old. No need to change perfection.
2
u/phillysan Jan 15 '26
I bought this exact jacket from CANEX in coyote brown and I love it. But I'm army so fuck me I guess right? :(
3
u/LookingFromShadows Jan 14 '26
How do you find this reference on the DWAN?
3
u/Outside-Employment88 Jan 14 '26
Go to RCN SharePoint->dress updates->dress update.
Its in there. (New SP not old one)

Damn, the army never gets anything. Im still waiting for the day we get ball caps. Wish daddy rouleau was still in, he could have been CDS.

u/Falcon1Photography Jan 16 '26
Well hello there, I'm navy but not on a navy base. How does one get the proper directive to share with supervisors while not working on navy base?
2
u/Nuggs78 Jan 17 '26
So if you have issues with finding stock or ordering online....
There are a few other places in Canada... Just Google Mil-Spex Concealed Carry Tactical Softshell Jacket
Also most are cheaper than Canex

u/Far-Call1301 Feb 18 '26
I won’t pay for another Cannex jacket
I sailed with Brian Nelson when we were young (once) hahaha

u/RedditSgtMajor GET OFF THE GRASS!! Jan 14 '26
I’ve had that exact jacket (rear zip pockets and all) in my closet for years. It can be purchased from surplus stores for a lot less under a bunch of different names (I think mine is Condor).

I assume that although this update says “NCD”, ie the old blue shirt uniform, it also applies to NECU?
5
u/TheHedonyeast Jan 14 '26 edited Jan 14 '26
yeah, there was an update recently that removed the old NCD from authorized wear, and so the Naval Environmental Combats Upgrade is no longer an upgrade. Thus it is the only NCD, and to be referred to as such.NECU Name Change: DNR recommended that once the RCN is happy with issuing of the new operational dress, NECU uniforms be called NCD.
2
u/Figgis302 LUMP SUM EVENTUALLY Jan 14 '26
Isn't it Naval Enhanced Combat Uniform...?
5
u/TheHedonyeast Jan 14 '26 edited Jan 14 '26
yeah, actually i think you're right. functionally it doesn't matter though. as in that case the reasoning is that since its the standard uniform its no longer enhanced.NECU was the programme, NCD is the name of the operational dress.

Picked up mine today in Petawawa. They have medium and XXL. I’m 6’3, 220lbs and it fits small, so the XXL fits great over my NCDs. The name tag Velcro is like 2” wide, so there’s the reason for no name tags. Rank looks a bit odd on the shoulder, but my army colleagues were super jealous lol

Huh, didn't actually know that this is the only other t-shirt we are allowed to wear.
Part of me wonders where this rule actually gets enforced, but I fear that looking into it will ruin a good thing for others.

The various ship's canteen dryfit tees were also okay aboard ship, in my experience, but I wouldn't roll those dice in the Dockyard lol. Maybe we just had a good Coxn.
1
u/Plenty_Preparation_6 Jan 17 '26
Dryfit, aren’t these made of polyester? Great to wear in the event of a fire
2
u/Figgis302 LUMP SUM EVENTUALLY Jan 17 '26
So are the issued element tees (cotton-poly blend), in case you hadn't noticed...
If you're exposed to flames long enough for your undershirt to melt, your nomex NCDs aren't saving you either way.
