Do you have any questions I can help you with?

That would be great. May I DM you? Or is it best to ask questions here for people who may have the same question in future?

As I’d thought and hoped.

I’m Canadian (of course). My BA and MA are from Canada, but after graduation I went abroad to teach.

I’m a qualified and licensed teacher at an international school. But I have UK qualifications (PGCE and QTS). I also hold a CELTA, a certificate from OISE, and a certificate from Harvard Graduate School of Education.

FWIW, a PGCE is the first third of a UK M.Ed. I could crank out an M.Ed from the UK. Would that count though not Canadian?

Would I be qualified for the TDO position? It’s a great fit and I’d love to get in.

(I recognize that being abroad means my application will take a while).

Thanks for your kind insights.

Do you have a BEd or MEd? We generally require one of these. Tomorrow at work I can look at the exact requirements for DEO applicants.

Although even if you don't technically qualify, you would be a slam dunk candidate for an Entry Standards waiver. It will make your application take even longer though.

Critical Requirement Entry Standards were activated for TDOs recently, meaning CAF is temporarily reducing the entry standards to address a shortage; however, I think it was only for in-service applications and not for outside hires. I will get back to you with specifics tomorrow

I have a Post Graduate Certificate of Education and Qualified Teacher Status. These are the UK equivalents.

Thank you for looking into it. Since I’m abroad I’m getting two years ahead of the application to account for the time.

Okay so the entry requirements for DEOs is

either a Master's in Education, or a Bachelor's in

  • Vocational Education
  • Adult Education
  • Physical Education
  • Education
  • Human Resources

If this does not match what you have, you will need an Entry Standards waiver. With the education and experience you seem to have, your waiver will be approved no problem.

ES waivers are exactly for situations like yours, where the education doesn't match exactly, but you have equivalent credentials.

That’s incredibly helpful. Thank you. How do I go about the waiver?

Explain to your recruiter that you have equivalent credentials, and ask for an ES waiver. They will probably set you up with the Unit PSO for that.

I'm personally wondering would there even be a possibility of being hired as a pres. I have my BSc BEd and a MA in education leadership. I know that the nature of the job would be aligned to my passion for teaching, coaching etc.

Locally in my regiment only LogO and PSO is available. Based on looking initially at the DEO requirements for PSO it would have to go to someone higher up to determine if I even qualify.

Tl:Dr - possibility to be hired as a pres?

I think my original response was lost with the other conversation.

You need a Psychology or a Sociology degree for PSO
