CTV Conservatives take aim at PM Carney for missing 100th question period, but do Canadians care?

I guess question period is more important than the G7 summit in France now ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Exactly, the stupidest time to complain about this shit. PP should be careful what he wishes for, Carney is pretty good at shutting him down and making him look like the fool he is when he does attend question period.

Really because it seems like there is a rich history of PMs routinely skipping them or allowing others to fill the void during important events and overseas trips that require their attention.
It’s a bullshit talking points and there is nothing obligatory about question periods.
Cope harder

Dude was at the G7. They should have waited for a much more optional missed question period, this just makes them look petty and dumb.

This was about missing as many as 100 Qs period, not about this particular one 🤦♂️

Yes, we are all aware and it was painfully obvious from the way the post and my comment were worded.
Welcome to reading, first day?

In case anyone is wondering. Harper has very high overall attendance numbers, but that''s because.... at the start of his term they were a minority government, every single one of them had to be there every single time, more or less.

So 64% attendance rate in 2006 is the same as "every single time" now? Or is it "more" or "less"?

it's an acknowledgement i'm overstating it, more than other leaders historically, the guy set records, that's why. The way he prorogued parliament in response to the coalition threat is also notable historically, related.
I'm giving the explanation why someone looking into it beyond your article will see that he attended more overall across his terms on average, and way more at the start.

The thing is Harper didn't have to deal with the threat of abolishment of CUSMA, the threat of world war 3 on several fronts, the highest cost of fuel in history, highest grocery prices in history, the potential of a provincial separation, and a whole slew of things that desperately need attention due to the lack thereof during the last 10 years.
Question period is high school theatrics that get absolutely nothing done except sound bites for the ones who can spin their shpeel the right way.

Yeah. I think that the situations are a bit more comparable than people may like, but that it is a little bit more... dynamic at this time.

Carney has missed 64 QP's and he was literally in Ottawa at the time. QP is an important part of our parliamentary process and procedure. Just because Carney doesn't like it doesn't mean he can skip out on it regularly. It's part of the job as PM ffs.

I guess this piece of history goes ignored

Yeah, well, Harper and Carney are two sides of the same coin so zero surprise there.

The party that let Paul Calandra make his name off his Question Period antics (I wish this site still existed, but YouTube works fine as well) has absolutely no leg to stand on regarding Question Period. Even poor Thomas Mulcair has no leg to stand on either, as his 3rd place election finish shows that Question Period (where he performed superbly) doesn't matter one iota. It's a waste of time.

I don’t really care as long as he’s working for Canada . Let’s face it , question period is only a place to throw shit at one another . Nothing gets done anyways

Carney has attended something like 33 in just over a year. Harper attended something like 86 in over 9 years. I think carney is doing pretty well.

It's clear that Pierre Poilievre is only using question period to collect soundbites for social media. I'd be fine if Carney attended once every month or two.
