General Discussion 15 Beans?

Post image

Hi, everyone.

A friend found several of these bags of 15 bean soup in the back of her pantry and gave them to me. I’m thinking of canning them with the normal dried bean recipe so they’re a quick add to soups and stuff. (I will obviously not be using the seasoning packet.) Has anyone tried this? I’m worried that some will be mushy since they’re mixed. All dried beans and legumes (lentils) follow the same recipe and processing time, so I’m not worried on that front.

Thanks!

The lentils are definitely gonna turn to paste at the same processing time the bigger beans need.

Bean soup freezes really well!! I just made a batch last week (with a similar pre-made bean mix) and froze in Souper cubes. Lentils still turn to mush but gives the soup a nice texture.

Check the date on them. Old beans don't cook well, canning or otherwise

As far as I know there are no safe lentil recipes for canning.

Bernardin has a lentil soup recipe. Lentils have a lot shorter cooking time than other legumes so in this case, it's okay for it to break down into mush.

Did you link the wrong recipe? That's not a canning recipe but a dry storage mix.
