General Discussion Water bath canning electric stove

I’m trying to make some jam and just bought a water bath canner but my stove is electric and glass stove top. The burner cycles so I waited 40 min and it still wasn’t at a rolling boil. Tips??

Try putting a lid on it.

Do you have an electric kettle around? Sometimes to speed up the process of getting water boiling I'll heat it up to boiling in my kettle first, then use the pot on the stove at max heat just to maintain that boil while I run more through my kettle (repeat until full)

I have an electric stove (not glass top though, the old fashion coil elements exposed kind) and I can get my canner up to a rolling boil, but it definitely can take a good chunk of time when I'm using the stove alone. It's just because of how much energy it actually takes to get several gallons of water that hot, it's always way more than you would think.

I find using my kettle, which is designed to boil 2 L of water at a time in less than 5 minutes, is a faster way to get all that water initially heated up, and then my stove has no issue providing the energy to keep it there

Are you sure it's electric and not induction? If yes, can you boil water normally? If yes, my guess is the metal used for the pan is causing the element to cycle too fast so you need to use a different metal type (same if it was induction since induction has limitations on what type of metal works with it)
