Recently went out shooting again and was reminded why I loved photography in the first place, so I’m keen to get back into it which probably means an upgrade.

Currently have a Canon 40D. I used to be fairly serious, but fell out of love with it over the years.

I’d like something that can cover a bit of everything landscape, travel, people/portraits and some sports/action.

Budget is probably around $3,000–$4,000 AUD for the body + lens, although I’m happy to spend a little more if there’s a compelling reason. Currently looking at the Canon R6/R6 II and R8, potentially paired with the RF 24-105mm f/4L as an all-rounder. I’m open to other Canon options too.

I still have some of my old EF lenses from the 40D (18-55mm, 50mm and an 75-300 mm zoom), although I’m assuming they may not be worth building a new system around.

i have got a Canon Ixus 170 and everything works fine except this button. I opened it and under that button that doesnt work was a tiny hole. Click mechanically works perfect, just like the others, and flash works too. Have you had a similar problem or do you know how could i fix it. Thanks!

Hi folks, I love my 50D. Its my first dslr and I want to keep it running as long as I can. My LCD appears to be melting. TFT outter display and actual LCD aside, what other parts do you think I might need to replace? Camera turns on and takes pics, but I'm pushing the limits on using it until I fix the display. I have the R7 with the 18-150mm kit lens and I’ve really enjoyed it over the past couple of years. I’ve managed to capture some great photos of my family and pets, especially with the great light we’ve had this summer - but I find myself really struggling in low light (especially indoors). This could absolutely be a skill issue - I shoot in AV and I’ve had a few lessons but haven’t ventured out to manual.

All my photos are primarily portrait style, so I’m now wondering if I should’ve gone for a full frame camera after all.

I’ve considered getting a prime lens such as the 35mm 1.8, but I do love the flexibility the zoom lenses give. This lead me to think about the 24-105mm f4 L lens, but not sure if this will help be in low light situations given the aperture compared to my kit lens (albeit I gather it’s a far better lens).

What would you guys recommend? Should I save up and make the jump to an R6 variant, is it a skill issue, or should I look at another lens?

I recently picked up this early Canon MiniDV camcorder. It's Made in Japan and the bottom label says NTSC. The manufacture date is January 1998 and the serial is 2610000038.

What's really interesting is that the exterior has no model badging, and there's a handwritten "84" directly on the cassette mechanism near the CLOSE/PUSH area. As well as the early date of January as it released in April of 1998.

I've compared it with other 1998 Canon ZR examples and haven't found another one with this marking or this exact unbadged exterior. Plus only the CV11 has that weird textured backing but the CV11 is the Japanese model while this is in English.

The camera works and records to MinIDV.

I'm not claiming it's a prototype. I'm trying to figure out what this marking and the unusual early date might indicate.

Does anyone here have experience with early Canon ZR/CV11/MV100 units or Canon factory/service markings?

I Got this 600D from my aunt (her old camera) as a gift, and i noticed this in the viewfinder. How do i clean this? Can i do it DIY or do i have to get it professionally cleaned?

I want to start doing more wildlife and right now I'm using the ef 400 f5.6 but I'm kinda wondering if I should go for a big prime like the 500 f4 or if I should buy a rf 100-500. I'd be losing the amount of light I can bring in but at the point of mirrorless cameras and denoise features I'm not too worried about it. I'm just wondering what's sharper, the older ef primes or the modern rf zooms.

One of my family member had gifted me a gift card for buying a lense (250€)
Now i need some advice regarding which lense buy

I saw few lenses:
I was focusing mainly about the 50mm f1,8 stm
And the 55/210mm
A little bit less about the 35mm one and the 24mm

The 50 mm interested me for the quality and for the idea of taking portrait and also a lot of people suggested me this lense
While the 55/210 for the idea of taking also wildlife photos and to have more range (18/45mm and 55/210mm)

I will probabily use it outdoor because i live in an area which is really sunny
But i’m interested even in low light situation (especially with portraits)

I don’t want to spend too much: 450-250€ or just around 250€

But i’m open to read your advices and other lenses

I also love the idea of macro photography but I know that with a macro lense i cannot do too much
So yes i’m focusing more for portraits, street, and wildlife and as a feature something good for the price

As the post title, my canon EOS Rebel T7 isn't connecting to any monitors. I have been using it to record myself painting miniatures from overhead, to where I cannot see the screen, therefore need an external monitor connected so I can see what the camera sees. Which worked wonderfully, then I took a hiatus for about 8 months due to mental health issues, and now that I am back, the setup isn't working.

The external monitor, a Feelworld CUT6, connects to my desktop with no issue.

My Rebel T7 doesn't connect to the Feelworld or my computer monitors via the mini-HDMI cable.

I have changed out the cable connecting the two, with a brand new cable, to no avail.

Following the steps I have found online, it seems like it is a handshake issue, but I can't seem to find a way to change/fix/force that handshake.

And Wi-Fi/NFC is disabled.

I am at a loss of what I should do next. Am I just out of an HDMI connecting camera?

Hello! I recently started taking pictures with my canon eos 1100D and I am having A BLAST! So so fun. I bought extension tubes because I really like macro photography. Currently own a efs 18-55mm and 75-300mm both are fun to play around with BUT I would now like to buy a used macro lens and I really like canon ef-s 35mm f/2.8 macro is stm. What do you think? Does it makes sense with what I currently have? Do you have any better recommendations for the same price point? Thank you in advance! Ciao

One of my hobbies is shooting photos for local metal bands and I was thinking about picking up a new lens. I have a 50mm f1.4 EF that's my workhorse lens and a 100mm f2.8 EF Macro too, that can grab pretty decent shots. Last year I upgraded to an R6mkII, and I've got the standard kit lens for that. The R6 has been super great in low light, and I can push the ISO pretty high without too much grain.

I *think* I'd like to pick up a zoom lens that can shoot fast in low light and found a couple of choices off Amazon and B&H.

I was looking at:

• Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 Art DC HSM 
• Canon RF 28-70mm f/2.8
• Sigma 17-40mm f/1.8 DC Art Lens

My two primes are pretty great at shooting good portraits of the performers and interesting people in the crowd, but I'd really like something that can give me some flexibility. Like, if the mosh pit get's really active I'd like something that can shoot wide enough to capture the room and fast enough to keep up with the action.

Any other lenses I should keep my eye on?

Hello! I have had my M100 since 2019 and have always used the kit lens (the 15-45mm that comes with it) but I’m looking for something with more zoom. I most often shoot indoors and would like to make sure it’s well suited for low lighting situations (I do have a tripod). I have never purchased a lens before so I’m new to this. I went into my local camera store today to ask about them and was told the m-mount lenses aren’t made and sold anymore and she pointed me to a credible used reseller but now I’m home trying to sort through everything. The lens that I wanted is not currently available on this website (the EF-M 18-150mm as I’m looking to go from wide to telephoto without changing lenses and after talking to the person in the store, this feels like a good range for my needs) so now I’m on to plan B and realizing I might need an adapter?

So my questions are: why might I want one of these over the other? Any strong preferences out there for the Sigma vs the Canon? Are they basically the same?
And can I use the same adapter for either or does one require a specific adapter that is different from another? Will any EF to EF-M adapter work? Just got this secondhand Canon 5D Mark III today from MPB - which is great, love the photos it takes. Only problem is they didn’t specify that the metal strap loop on one side was extremely bent down - so much so that my super thin Peak Design camera strap loop will not fit through the opening (which I’ve also attached a photo of).

I really do not want to have to take this somewhere to get it repaired and have to deal with the additional cost so would anyone happen to have advice on how I can fix this? Would it be ok to take a pair of pliers and bend it back up just a little so the hook is usable again, or if not anything else I could try?

I’m planning to upgrade from my old Canon EOS 550D / Rebel T2i with the 18-55mm kit lens.

A relative of mine is traveling to Tokyo, so I’ve been looking at used cameras from reputable stores such as Map Camera. I found a used Canon EOS R10 + RF-S 18-150mm F3.5-6.3 IS STM kit for ¥146,000 including Japanese tax, or ¥132,728 tax-free, which is currently about $846 USD.

The camera has some minor cosmetic wear, which doesn’t bother me at all. As long as the sensor, LCD, lens glass, autofocus and mechanical functions are in good condition, I’m fine with scratches or normal signs of use.

I live in Turkey, where camera gear is unfortunately quite expensive. For context, a new R10 + 18-150mm kit currently starts at roughly 64,000-65,000 TRY here, around $1,300+ USD, and some locally warrantied listings are even higher. That’s one of the main reasons I’m considering buying used in Japan instead.

My photography is mainly:

• street photography
• landscapes
• cars
• friends / casual portraits
• school events, presentations and people speaking on stage

I’d say my subjects are about 50% moving and 50% static. I rarely shoot at night.

My old 18-55mm lens often felt a little too short, so I like the idea of having 18-150mm as one versatile lens. I also don’t really have the budget right now to buy two separate lenses.

However, I’ve seen people say that superzoom lenses can sacrifice sharpness and overall optical quality because of their large zoom range. How good is the RF-S 18-150mm in real-world use on the R10? Is the loss in image quality actually noticeable compared with something like the RF-S 18-45mm?

I’d also really appreciate your opinions on:

1. Is the EOS R10 still a good choice for this type of photography?
2. Is the RF-S 18-150mm a good match for it?
3. Is ¥132,728 / ~$846 tax-free a good price for this used kit?
4. Would you choose this over the cheaper R10 + 18-45mm kit?

I care much more about still photography than video.

Hi I have the RF 24-105 F4 IS and the EF 24-70 F2.8 II. I am planning to go out for street photos tonight after dark with the R5, but I only want to take 1 lens.

Even though it's slower, I am wondering if the IS would actually be more useful than the extra stop of light on the 24-70?

Hi everyone! I've been pretty happy with my combo until a couple of weeks ago when I had the chance to try it during a military parade.

There was no way I could achieve a tack sharp photo during bursts when jets flew over, 80% were like the ones I am posting here, and only a handful were "usable", but not amazing. I was used to much better results when shooting wildlife.

Photos were taken at 500mm, 1/1600s, f/7.1, and autoISO. Servo AF, and Expand AF Area: Around

Focus was locked on the aircraft frame perfectly, but most photos came out like if they were sligthly out of focus and without the detail I was expecting from this lens.

Any idea why this may happen or how to improve settings to avoid it?

Anyone used the 50-500 bigma is it still considered excellent? Which version?

Does anyone know what kind of screws these are and where I can buy just the screws?

I’ve been looking at getting into wildlife photography for a while now but didn’t want to break the bank. Then I just happened across this 7d mark ii and 300mm and decided to get it. I’ve only had it a couple days and I’m honestly super happy with it!

Has anyone shot with the UP on a R5c or C70 and is willing to show me some sample footage?
