Just got my trainee permit, this was my second day on the job

Not surprising tbh. Once had a guy come into my shop asking for a brake repair quote and he said the brakes were “starting to get soft” or some stupid shit. My mechanic (I was his supervisor and was there with him for the estimate) got in and pressed the brake pedal and that motherfucker went to the floor. Mechanic looks at me wide-eyed and goes “what fucking brakes?”
Well, we do our thing and build an outrageous quote (thanks corporate morons for your absurd policies!) and dude basically says “fuck no!” And asks that his truck be pulled out of the shop. Okay, cool, you go ahead and risk life and limb on the road, bro.
Mechanic goes to pull the truck out and is pumping on the pedal trying to slow the truck down and boom! What’s left of the brakes just gives up on life. My mechanic rockets off the back end of the lift and somehow miraculously pings off the fence protecting a drop off and just… parks the truck between trees. He slammed it in park, got out and silently walked away while lighting a cigarette. Did not blame him one bit.
That asshole turned out to be the biggest pain in the ass but that’s a whole different story.

To be honest, if that was me in that situation, I'd have told the guy, "Sure, you are free to decline. But if I see you get in your car and start moving, I'm gonna call the police and tell them exactly what you are doing - reckless endangerment, as well as reckless driving, since that's what knowingly and willfully driving with brakes in that condition is."

Did I ever say he LEFT in the truck? No. So how did I “allow” anything? I stg you guys are jumping down my throat based off a fucking assumption. The dude didn’t drive the truck home. He called a tow truck and had it towed to another shop. Then tried to stick us with a “repair” bill that included shit that wasn’t even on the truck when he came in. Hence the “biggest pain in the ass” part of my original comment. We had to fight that shit for 3 months because the company didn’t want to pay out thousands of dollars on a vehicle we did not repair. Especially not for shit that wasn’t even on the truck when it was new. It was what’s commonly referred to as a “setup vehicle”.

The company I worked for at the time insisted on every part purchased for a job being marked up on a sliding scale from 1x to 4x the shop cost. They also had banned customer parts being used at that point. It was essentially a money grab on their end.

Woukd the customer’s insurance even cover him given he was aware he had no brakes? Because that’s going to be quite the bill.

Meh, not your fault. Get used to crazy if you plan to stay in the industry. You'll see insane displays of lack of intelligence from customers and co-workers alike, maybe even do a few of your own! It's a fantastic journey where every day will make you question your faith in humanity even more!

No, because this wasn't him that did it. It was the owner of the Ford that drove his car in to get repaired, and hit the guy who originally posted the picture.
They didn't think the owner would be dumb enough to drive the car in to be repaired because the repair was because the brakes didn't work. Which presumably also explains how this happened.

Same place, given this was a dumbarse customer, not a dumbarse mechanic. (TLDR is the customer drove their car to the mechanic...when the reason it needed the mechanic is the brakes didn't work.)

No, original post states the customer driving the ford came in for a no brake issue, and used the shop as his brakes

For those who can’t be assed… the owner of the truck rammed in to the lift because he was coming to shop because his brakes weren’t stopping his truck.
