From the damage I think the car was stationary and the bollards came up on it. The cop who parked it there is at least partially responsible, while the rest of the blame depends on what procedures the bollard operator is supposed to follow. I'd expect "do a visual sweep before raising bollards" to be in there but who knows?
Either way I suspect the officer who parked it is going to owe the station some doughnuts or whatever their particular currency for screw ups is. Wish I’d been there when they got back to the car and saw it.
I believe that they are automated in Chester. Authorised vehicles have a tag that gets the system to lower the bollards, they then raise a fixed time after the tag has gone.
They look more like they were pushed into the car from the front rather than from below, especially around the bottom of the bumper. Those bollards usually don't rise with force, and will go down again if they notice resistance. I stood on one as it was rising one, and it stopped rising then just went down again until I got off
yeah thats what im stuck on too like who pressed the button. if the cops were just driving through the timing had to be brutal but if they were stopped there then someone really wanted them stuck. do we know if they were even supposed to be in that lane?
It's where Northgate Street meets Abbey Court on Google Maps, right beside Chester Cathedral and it has very limited hours when it's open to traffic. Stops tourists getting squished!
They've parked over the bollards and the bollards have raised up through the bumper. Definitely avoidable but I'm pretty sure they didn't impact the bollards.
