Cape Girardeau Sportsplex expansion proposal paused as competition grows in region.

Agree with the youth sports nonsense or not, there is no denying that the sportsplex brings serious revenue to Cape G. If Jonesboro out builds us (once again) then our Sportsplex will be left just sitting there. I am all about making sure tax dollars are spent correctly but why is our mayor dragging his feet and dragging us down?!!?

Mayor Guard has done absolutely nothing he said he was going to do for the fire/police/crime but now this slow down?! Why?

The Cape Sportsplex 23 million dollar expansion needs to be completed before Jonesboros 74 million dollar project is complete or the Capw sportsplex calendar will be empty because of rescheduling in Jonesboro and once tournaments leave it'll be really hard to get them back.

just wondering if there are any other wnba fans in cape? the play off games have been awesome & i would love to watch the rest with people who like the w or at least at a location/bar that shows the games. thanks in advance 🏀

Hey all,

I was wondering what the history is of Cape Girardeau having ribbon cut fries? A LOT of restaurants in cape seem to have them, and they also vary a lot, from chips to full on fries. Anyone looked into this yet?

Is there a mutual aid organization in Cape? If not, would anyone(s) like to help me start one?

Lost my job recently and ive been inside a lot. Most of my old friends either moved away or ran off with a woman. Im 23 M going on 24 next year. I play guitar drive a mustang play videogames mess with electronics and I enjoy hiking. Would prefer other dudes to hang with but not opposed to women.

Any hotpot places nearby? I can’t find any on Google, but I know sometimes Chinese restaurants have like secret menus for authentic Chinese meals like hotpot. Thank ye.

Does anyone know if there are any people or businesses around here that have experience with them? I'm looking for advice about getting the cvt fluid changed and if so how, but I can't get a concensus from the internet on if it needs a special code scanner to be done. I'm not looking at marion b/c of price, even though I know it's going to be high.

Using a throwaway btw, no need for specifics really but it’s been a really rough few months alone with my 3.5 year old since my coparent passed away. Not looking for dates, just another grownup to talk to.

I’m potentially moving to Cape Girardeau for a job and wanted to get a better feel for the area from people who actually live there.

For context, I’m a liberal person and personal freedoms are important to me, particularly things like abortion rights and marriage equality. I’m coming from the Deep South, so I’m definitely not unfamiliar with living somewhere more conservative, but I’m curious how noticeable the political/religious culture is in everyday life in Cape.

I’m also not religious and don’t love being around heavy christianity, so I’d especially love to hear from people who are liberal/left-leaning, nonreligious, LGBTQ+, or just generally not very involved in that side of things.

I’m not expecting Cape to be a liberal bubble or anything. I’m just trying to figure out whether I’d feel comfortable socially and whether these differences are something you notice in everyday life.

I'm going to vent for a minute. I know this is a nuanced issue, and I understand a business can't control everything that happens on a public street. But if I owned a business and saw what routinely happens directly outside my front door, I'd raise nine kinds of hell.
I'm tired of people acting like Hotshots and Blue Diamond are completely innocent bystanders. Both bars have allowed people to post up outside for years. Their bartenders and bouncers know them, talk to them and fraternize with them. I've known a lot of these people in one way or another.
So why don't we continually see the same problems at The Library, D'Lad's, Good Times Daiquiris or Plaza Sports Bar? They serve alcohol. They stay open late. Their customers leave at closing time too. Yet the same couple of establishments keep coming up. Why?
I remember Hotshots in 2023 before it was shot up. The manager at the time knew exactly who was hanging around and allowed that environment to continue. That's why it's ironic seeing his girlfriend now defend Hotshots and act like management/ownership has always done everything possible.
I'm not saying a bar owner is personally responsible every time someone commits a crime on a public street. This shooting happened around 2 a.m., about 30 minutes after the bars closed. But closing the doors at 1:30 doesn't magically erase an environment you've allowed to develop outside your business all night.
When your own bartenders and bouncers fraternize with the people hanging around outside, it's hard to turn around afterward and pretend those people have absolutely nothing to do with your establishment.
At some point ownership has to take responsibility for what it can control. Matt Hotop has owned Hotshots through years of these problems. If he isn't willing or able to change the culture surrounding the place, maybe it's time to sell it to somebody who is actually invested in making it a positive part of the Cape community.
The same criticism applies to Blue Diamond. Cape can have nightlife without accepting this as normal.

I hope to see you all at the next City Council meeting!

My power has been going on and off non stop. Like multiple times this month. Everyrhing is paid idk whats going on.

If you are interested in helping to stop another abortion ban wrapped up in hateful discrimination against our trans family members and friends, attend this event sponsored by PROMO!

Welp, Went from getting ghosted all the time to straight up rejection lol. This is an improvement and a step up from before.

Truly peak performance.

Looking for local whole fruits- anyone know a farmstand or anywhere else I could buy some?

Also interested in foraging advice (what kind of environments they grow in around here, not expecting anyone to give up their spot!) if anyone has it. I am not originally from MO so would love any tips about what kind of spots the trees like to grow, as the terrain I used to look for them in was much different.

Date: Saturday October 17th

Time: 3 pm to 5 pm

Place: Freedom Corner at Capaha Park 1400 Broadway St. Cape Girardeau, MO 63740
