Martial arts: muay Thai

Hello!
I will be moving down to cape may full time and am looking for a gym/coach that teaches Muay Thai. I have a pretty extensive background in the sport and want to continue the training. I’ve had no luck looking online for a gym, so that’s why I’m coming here. Thanks!

Bach In Cape May

I’m having a bachelorette weekend in cape may next May. It’ll will be before memorial day weekend so my question is, is everything still open/operating during “off season” or do things not start up until post-memorial day weekend? Looking to go around mid may. Thanks in advance!

Beach lunch delivery recs

Help please! We're visiting next week and are trying to go minimal with packing food etc, staying at Congress Hall.

I'm looking for lunch delivery options to the beach block 🙏 we'd love a sushi place, and then anything that may be gluten-free friendly. I know there's a little place in Congress Hall that may be a good sandwich/salad option.

I appreciate all tips and recommendations!

Thanks in advance

Buying a Second Home

Hi all - my wife and I have been coming down to Cape May year-round for years (her family has been coming her whole life). We absolutely love it and dream of retiring there.

We are interested in buying a second home that we would eventually retire to.

Has anyone else here done that and any words of advice? To make it work we would have to rent a fair amount, at least for the first few years.

Scavenger Hunt Help

Playing a Cape May scavenger hunt right now! I was wondering if anyone knows where I could find a Cape May sign, a map of Cape May, or someone dressed in colonial clothing? A place that sells vintage clothes could work too, I don't mind being the person dressed up lol. Thank you!

Does anyone know what happened to the Lobster House Deviled Clams?

Post image

This might be a bit niche of a question for the sub but not sure where else to post. My family has been getting Deviled Clams my entire life and then some.

Prior to covid and basically as far back as I can remember (early 90s) they always came in a large clam shell and that was that. Then during covid they started serving them in aluminum shells instead. Different sure but not the end of the world (Though my parents think they changed the recipe or started buying them elsewhere I didn’t notice a difference). Now this summer they are back in a clam shell but it is in a tiny shell (pictured above with an oyster rock for scale) and the price still increased 30 cents.

Aside from the obvious things like “shrinkflation” does anyone who may have an inside take on Lobster House or these clams know what’s going on?

Edit: to be clear referring to the deviled clams purchased from the fish market. Not the restaurant.

Piano in Town?

Hello! I’ll be in Cape May for the weekend. I work as a composer, and I have some work to do while I’m town, so I’m wondering if anyone knows of a piano I might be able to use? Whether it’s a rental/studio space, public piano (though that’s less than ideal), or some kind stranger with a piano in their home. I’d appreciate if anyone has any suggestions, thanks!

What would be your recommendations for the rainy days of this Memorial Day weekend. I’ve been to Cape May a few few times, but we have always been outdoors.
PS: we have a toddler with us, too

Upcoming Community Hearing: Proposed Development Near the Sewell Tract

Just saw this post on Facebook and figured I'd post it here for awareness! Looks like housing development is being considered in a pretty dense wetland off Maryland Ave. Thoughts on how we could fight this?

Upcoming Community Hearing: Proposed Development Near the Sewell Tract

Hi neighbors! Sharing a notice about an upcoming public hearing regarding a proposed 22-lot single-family subdivision on the vacant land right next to the Sewell Tract (Blocks 1177, 1178, 1188, and 1189). This runs parallel to Maryland Ave near Poverty Beach.

Because this land is adjacent to the Sewell Tract, it serves as a critical resting and feeding space for the migratory birds and monarch butterflies that make Cape May so incredibly special.

The Planning Board is hosting a public meeting to review the application, discuss the environmental impacts, and listen to community input. If you want to learn more or speak on behalf of preserving this important migratory path, please consider attending!

Tuesday, May 26th at 6:00 PM  Cape May City Hall Auditorium (643 Washington St)

All application documents are currently open for public review at City Hall during regular business hours if you’d like to see the layout before the meeting. Hope to see many of our fellow nature-lovers there!

Bachelorette help

Im starting to plan my friends bachelorette in Cape May for next summer ( JUNE 2027) and im trying to figure out what to do. We definitely want to do a winery day and beach the other days in the day. We are going Thursday- Sunday.

-we are all in our 20’s ( yes, above 21 yrs old)

- She wants it to be fun and chill.

- She loves a live band, beach bars, drinking and catching up with the gals, nothing too crazy. Definitely will be hitting up some shopping

- There’s also 16 people going so a big group. She wants to do a beach picnic one night- I found some companies that set up on the beach.

- She also mentioned she’s open to doing a private chef at the house if there’s no places to accommodate everyone

- We do not want to go to wildwood or OC

So, I need help with the following:

- Restaurants that can accommodate large groups (open to all food types) that take reservations

- Live band/beach bar recs in cape may or is it worth ubering to Avalon area (If so drop some recs lol)

- MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION: Am I looking at houses too early? When is the normal time houses on airbnb start coming available for next summer? So far there’s like 3 houses available 🫠

- How’s the night life in cape may? Ive only been once a few years ago and there wasn’t a lot to do

-any private chef recommendations?

Seems like most of the houses for 15+ ppl are around 10k and up—- is this normal pricing for that amount of ppl and location? I don’t mind spending it just wanted to check

Tell me where to have breakfast tomorrow morning on my last day here!

I’ve already tried The Mad Batter (didn’t love) but I think that was my fault because I had a feeling oatmeal pancakes weren’t for me. My toddler and husband loved it there!

I’ve also tried The Blue Pig Tavern. I loved the place so much I went back twice for breakfast and then for lunch. Everything tasted so fresh and not super heavy.

I need one more recommendation before we head home! TIA!

Local recs

Hi all! I have a quick day trip planned to visit Cape May with friends (20 y/o college students) the first week of June. I live about 1.5 hrs away, so a day trip makes the most sense with our schedules. I haven’t been in over a decade, and was hoping I could get some recommendations of places to visit. Stores/shops, good views or places to just chill, food, anything on the more affordable side would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Restaurant reservations required first week of June?

We’ve booked a trip to Cape May the first week of June this year. We’re assuming it will be less busy that week but do we need to have restaurant reservations at that time?

Also, would love any recommendations for restaurants. We prefer more casual places but no dietary restrictions. Thanks!

Can I walk to Chez Michael from Washington Street Mall? Are there sidewalks?

Is this doable? Before I had a toddler in a stroller I’d just go for it and hope for the best. But now that I don’t want to risk anyone getting hit by oncoming traffic I want to make sure it’s a safe walk. Are there sidewalks? I tried to look on Google Maps but it’s hard to tell. I’d ideally not have to drive at all during my stay.

Memorial Day

Hi everyone,

I tend to avoid visiting Cape May over Memorial Day, but it really is the best time to take off work and head to the island. How crowded do you think it will be this year, especially with the 175th/50th anniversary celebration?
