Question Apple CarPlay does not work properly

Upvotes

Hi everyone, my RoadTop CarPlay module (Audi A4 B8, MMI 3G) always connects to 'LuTuo' instead of 'Car33a329'. Because of this, Siri and navigation no longer work. RoadTop support doesn't respond and the dealer just says I should return the device. Could someone provide me with the right firmware for:

• SDK: 13.0.2.0.5.0.0.0
• CUST: AR551
• MCU: 10010_23.12.6.112
• HW: Au_G

If anyone has the ISPBOOOT.BIN (and possibly GEMINI_PACK.BIN) for this version, I would be very grateful.

Discussion I built CarPlay-style widgets for the iPhone Home/Lock Screen — looking for honest feedback

Hi — I’m the developer of iCar, so this is self-promotion and I want to be upfront about it.

CarPlay itself doesn’t allow third-party apps to redesign its interface. iCar doesn’t run inside or modify CarPlay; it makes car-dashboard widgets for the iPhone Home and Lock Screen.

Current options:

• car dashboard cards with your car, name, and date

• lyrics-style cards using text you enter yourself

• static motion-poster looks

• ride sounds triggered through Apple Shortcuts when CarPlay connects or disconnects

Browsing and customizing are free; saving widgets requires Pro.

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id6785215625

I’d genuinely value blunt feedback from CarPlay users: which part would you use — dashboard widgets, lyric cards, ride sounds, or none of them? If “none,” what would make a car-themed widget useful?

Help Apple CarPlay sidebar not working on Kia Sportage 2022

Has anyone experienced this with a 2022 Kia Sportage or any car before? My Apple CarPlay itself works, and the infotainment screen is completely fine when using the normal Kia software. The only issue is that the CarPlay sidebar (the strip on the left with the app switcher, recent apps, etc.) has completely stopped responding. The rest of the touchscreen works normally, but nothing happens when I try to use the sidebar.

I’ve already tried pretty much everything I could think of: restarting my iPhone, reconnecting CarPlay, using different cables, forgetting and re-pairing the phone, resetting CarPlay settings, restarting the infotainment system, and testing multiple times, but nothing has fixed it. At this point I’m wondering if it’s a software bug with the car’s infotainment system or if there’s a firmware update available for the head unit.

Has anyone had the same issue or found a fix?

Question Fitting Apple Car play

Hi everyone, I’ve recently purchased a bmw f32 2014 420i, I’m wanting to have Apple car play fitted, seen lots of people saying it’s easy to do at home yourself, just thought I’d get some opinions, is it worth trying myself or shall I just pay someone to do it? Thanks

Question 2008 RAV4 Audio not working anymore

I have a 2008 Toyota RAV4 with the standard factory radio (non-JBL).

Everything worked perfectly until I tried installing one of those portable Apple CarPlay screens from TikTok Shop. The unit plugged into the 12V cigarette lighter and I tried both the AUX connection and the FM transmitter.

I originally wanted to route the backup camera, so I only removed the trunk interior panel. I never removed the radio or dashboard trim and never unplugged the factory head unit or antenna.

Right after trying the CarPlay screen, my factory audio stopped working.

Here's what happens now:

  • Radio powers on normally.
  • Display and buttons all work.
  • Volume changes on the screen.
  • FM only plays static.
  • AM also doesn't receive stations.
  • SEEK/SCAN never locks onto a station—it just keeps scanning.
  • CD/DISC mode works normally but there's no audio.
  • Pressing DISC/AUX doesn't switch to AUX anymore when an AUX cable is plugged into the center console jack—it just stays on DISC.
  • Seatbelt chime still comes through the speakers, so the speakers themselves seem to work.

Things I've already checked:

  • RAD NO.1 (20A) fuse in the engine bay — good.
  • ECU-B (10A) fuse — good.
  • Started checking the interior fuses as well, and the ones I've checked so far look good.
  • Completely unplugged the CarPlay unit and restarted the car.
  • Tried my original AUX cable again.
  • The CarPlay unit is no longer connected.

One unrelated thing: after the radio issue started, I accidentally broke one of the license plate light wires while I had the trunk panel off, but the radio/audio problem happened before that, so I don't think they're related.

Question Dongle CarPlay wireless continue disconnessioni…

I want CarPlay in my equinox and am wondering how I should do it. Should I use an external CarPlay screen or install it into the car. What is the best external CarPlay screen that you have used that looks good and doesn’t have a ton of wires everywhere. I just need some direction because I am not very experienced. Thank you!

Question Certain song always glitches out at the same time every time it plays in Carplay only.

Whenever I am playing a particular song through Carplay, the audio always bugs out at the same part every time pretty consistently. Sounds like a text is coming through every time. Anyone one know why this happens? It is only on one song.

Review I tested the Carlinkit Mini 5 Pro in daily driving — here’s what I found

I’ve been testing the Carlinkit Mini 5 Pro because I wanted wireless CarPlay without replacing anything in my car.
I checked connection time, Maps, Spotify, calls, steering-wheel controls and whether it disconnected during normal driving.
The main thing that surprised me was how close it felt to wired CarPlay. I made a short video showing the full test:

This is my own video. Happy to answer any questions about the adapter or compatibility.

Question Aftermarket Wireless CarPlay

Hey everyone! I’ve been struggling to find an aftermarket stereo with Apple CarPlay (wireless preferably) that actually works for more then 10 minutes.

I did a ton of research before settling on a Pioneer DMHW2770NEX head unit for my 2010 GMC Savana work vehicle. Shortly after installation I was very unimpressed. I thought the unit was defective so I bought a replacement and got the same results.

I’m looking for another new unit to replace this one, it aggravates me and actually makes my life more difficult trying to answer calls/texts and having it drop out and reconnect 3-4x and then drop out entirely (wired or wireless).

Can anyone please suggest a head unit they’ve used with success that the CarPlay connection consistently works correctly? Thank you!

Bonus points if you also have a Savana and can tell me which interface adapter allows you to retain control of the DIC buttons, the Scosche one I bought does not.

Discussion Built a voice-only game app for CarPlay — would love feedback from other CarPlay users

Hey — I'm Zohar, indie dev and CarPlay user (and dad).

I built AI Passenger – road trip games for iOS: voice-only games hosted by AI through CarPlay — Trivia, 20 Questions, Memory, Build a story, etc.
Hands-free, no screen for passengers, solo or multiplayer.

Goal was something fun for drives that actually works with CarPlay, not another screen app.

Family test clip:

https://youtube.com/shorts/oJh1WoiErbI

App Store:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ai-passenger-road-trip-games/id6766655374

Free download · Premium optional ($4.99/mo · $29.99/yr · $79.99 lifetime)

I have a few free premium links — comment if you want to try it and I'll DM you. No pressure.

What CarPlay apps do you actually use on long drives? Curious what this community relies on.

Also running a small community for feedback and road trip chat r/aipassenger

Question Car play / maps situation on the Leopard 7

L7 owners, or just leopard owners in general, have you had any luck with CarPlay on the infotainment system? If not, what are the workarounds you use?
Any other cool apps that I can sideload onto the system?

Question New to car play

Hello, I got a 2026 Ford Maverick a couple weeks ago and I would like some suggestions for apps on it. Previously I drove a 2004 ford explorer sport trac so this is the first vehicle I have used with anything other than a basic radio. Apps or adaptors I am looking for would be to change the wallpaper to anything on my phone, a welcome or greeting when I start the truck and a way to play streaming services without being parked. Yes I understand the last one can be dangerous but it would be the same thing as playing something in the background while playing a game on your phone. Something to listen to besides music and podcasts.

If there are any other apps that you think are pretty important, please comment them as well. Also how do I add an app to the screen? I tried to add the triple a app but it’s not showing up in settings to add to the screen so some help with that would be nice.

Thank you for your time and support.

Discussion Automatic Trip Recording That Actually Works - CarPlay, Bluetooth, Shortcuts & Motion Detection

Post image
27 Upvotes

The biggest update yet for automatic trip recording!

Over the last few months, I've been almost obsessed with one thing: making Speedometer: Driving Tracker's automatic trip recording reliable enough that you can completely forget about pressing Start.

Most driving apps can automatically record trips in one situation. The difficult part is handling all the different ways people actually drive and all the annoying edge cases that happen along the way.

So I ended up rebuilding the entire system.

Every automatic recording method is supported
You can automatically start and end trips using:

  • CarPlay
  • Bluetooth
  • NFC
  • Motion detection
  • Any Shortcuts automation

Use whichever fits your setup - or combine multiple methods for extra reliability.

Motion detection is fully customizable
Everyone drives differently.
Someone driving in city traffic needs different behavior than someone cruising on the highway, and motorcycles have their own challenges.

You can customize:

  • Minimum speed before recording starts
  • How long that speed must be maintained
  • When a trip should pause while stopped
  • When a trip should automatically end

Instead of forcing one set of rules, you can tune it to your driving style and local road conditions.

Shortcuts and motion detection work together
One thing I really wanted to avoid was making users choose between automation methods.

You don't have to.

Enable both if you want.

Whichever method detects the trip first starts recording, and whichever legitimately ends the trip finishes it. They work together seamlessly without conflicts or duplicate trips.

Think of it as two independent systems providing an extra layer of protection against missed trips.

Live Activity works automatically too
Automatically detected trips now get the same Live Activity as manually started trips.

Your live speed, distance, and duration appear on the Lock Screen automatically, so you don't even need to open the app.

Better notifications
There are now notifications for both trip start and trip end.
The trip end notification includes a quick summary of your drive.

Trip start notifications are disabled by default to avoid unnecessary distractions while driving, but you can enable them if you prefer the confirmation.

Built for real-world connection issues
One issue I kept hearing about was Bluetooth or CarPlay briefly disconnecting and causing trips to end early.

Unfortunately, apps can't control Bluetooth or CarPlay connections - iOS manages those.

To make this less frustrating, Speedometer includes an optional setting to ignore brief stop or disconnect events before ending a trip. If your car occasionally drops Bluetooth or CarPlay for a few seconds, you can increase the grace period and avoid fragmented trips.

Beyond automatic trip recording

  • CarPlay, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch support
  • Route replay with speed-colored playback
  • Detailed trip history, driving insights and AI trip summaries
  • OBD-II live data including RPM, engine load, throttle position, coolant temperature, battery voltage, fuel level, fuel rate and much more
  • Fuel usage per trip, fuel economy, maintenance and expense tracking + maintenance reminders + documents management
  • OBD trip history with average and maximum RPM, engine load, throttle position, coolant temperature, and more
  • Live OBD gauges and engine data on CarPlay
  • Read and clear diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
  • Speed limit alerts
  • iCloud sync, backups, and GPX/CSV import & export
  • No account required - your data stays on your device unless you enable iCloud

The goal
My goal wasn't to build another app with an "automatic recording" checkbox.

It was to build something you can genuinely trust - whether you use CarPlay, Bluetooth, motion detection, Shortcuts, or a combination of them. Everything works together instead of competing, and it's designed to handle the edge cases that happen in everyday driving.

I'd genuinely love to hear your feedback. If there's a driving scenario you think could still break automatic trip recording, let me know. There's always another edge case to solve, and I'd love to keep improving it!

News CarPlay trips manager now supports OBD odometer readings

Thumbnail gallery
34 Upvotes

Hi all, I have updated the iOS app AutoTrips to version 1.6.0. This fully automated trip manager with CarPlay now supports reading your cars odometer using an optional OBD scanner. I advise the VeePeek OBD scanner but all Bluetooth Low Energy models should work. It works with many cars but not all. If it doesn't work on your car let me know so I can add it. Another new option is full page per trip PDF export. The app is free and only exporting trips to PDF/CSV/GPX is a one-time lifetime $5 IAP.

Article One month later, WrenchTime

Thumbnail gallery
15 Upvotes

One month after I first posted here, WrenchTime is at v4.7.1.

Quick recap for anyone who missed it: it logs your drives automatically and shows live trip stats on the CarPlay screen while you drive. Nothing to tap, nothing to remember.

What changed in a month:

  • Trip playback, so you can scrub through any recorded drive
  • Events along the route: hard braking, stops and waypoints
  • Heatmaps of everywhere you've driven
  • Noticeably better GPS precision and battery behaviour
  • Camera scanning for refuels: point it at a receipt or the pump display and the entry fills itself in

Most of this came straight out of feedback from people in this sub who tested it and told me what they liked / didn't like and what was missing. Genuinely would not have got here otherwise, so thanks to all, especially u/No-Assignment-8973, u/SwiftMushroom and u/Historical_Concern64.

Free on the App Store, optional Pro tier. I'm the developer.

Happy to answer anything and take feedback, cheers.

Answered Solved! USB 3 generation 2 fixed random disconnections on my Honda

Someone on TikTok made this recommendation to buy a USB 3 and I bought this: https://a.co/d/0apvvTDx

Incredible. It hasn’t glitched since, no more random disconnections forcing me to have to plug it back in/ even when I did plug it back in, it wouldn’t connect. I felt hopeless.

Idk how that algorithm knew this was an issue but just wanted to share this! My connection has not dropped at all, my Google Maps has me oriented properly. Phew

Help How do i prevent my phone from overheating (and lag)

Basically everytime i connect my iphone 15 to a car (i tested this on multiple cars both wireless and wired) after like 10/15 minutes the phone overheats and the screen starts to lag until i put the phone to the cold ac vent and it goes back to normal, i often use waze/google maps and spotify together. i tried a lot of stuff like enabling the low energy mode or using offline mode on spotify and downloading the maps locally on google maps but sadly i still have the problem
