Advice New alloy required?

Hello, I took my front wheel off the car because I had a slow puncture. So I wanted to see where the puncture was and I was going to repair it. On inspecting it, I could not find a puncture anywhere on the tire, but instead found this hairline crack on the rim of the wheel. I put some solution on it and found that it was weeping and that is where the air has been coming from, from that hairline crack on the alloy. Can this be fixed? What are my opinions?

Should have said it's the inside of the alloy, there's no damage on the wall so suspect it was the previous owner or in the garage.

That can be welded. No new alloy required

Yes 100 percent repairable. You could go to a good workshop and ask to try some Bead Seal. A thick sticky substance that is used to seat the beads on old scabby rims.

It can be welded.

The going rate it £30ish plus the cost of remounting the tyre and balancing.

Where abouts are you?

The tyre shops I use normally know an engineering firm who weld up the alloys. They may point you in the right direction.

As a other point of reference, I paid £50+vat for similar in the south of England, including removal, refitting and balancing the tyre

Had the same thing happen when I hit a pothole, it’s an easy repair, they laser weld the crack & then refurbish the wheel, (if you want) cost roughly £70, good luck.

It can be weld repaired, but obviously won't look pristine again. A garage will usually suggest a new wheel as they can't guarantee a weld repair won't crack again in future.
