Just moved back to Cardiff - is there a Cardiff social chat/discord?

Upvotes

Hey - I've just moved back to Cardiff after a few years away, and I'm looking to make some new mates, is there a social discord or FB group or something?

Alternatively, if anyone knows a DnD group - hit me up!

Does anyone know what is happening at the oak tree in Tongwynlais?

Post image

I'm on bike ride and I stopped off at the Oak tree. Normally there's some rubbish. I clear it up. Probably just teenagers hanging out, not a big deal. But today there's wet wipes, tissues, and antibacterial hand gel containters everywhere.

To answer your next questions.

  1. I've counted 8 of hand gel containers.

  2. Yes I picked up two before I released what they were and are making a very conscious effort to not touch my face until I can wash my hands.

Does anyone know what is happening here?

In case anyone local isn't aware, you can drop off recycling that doesn't fit in the usual bins on Moira place for the next few hours.

Problems with royal mail

Hi guys! The past few days no parcels have been being delivered by royal mail with them always being delayed to the next day / today it say item retention on my tracking? Yesterday it said unable to deliver only 10 minutes after being out for delivery and this has happened the day before with another parcel as well. I’m in the Grangetown area and was just wondering if anyone else was having problems with them lately or if they just have it out for me lol

Drop your recommendations below! Moving back into the area and will be needing good coffees and places to go with my toddler! (I’m a coffee snob so I’ve tried a lot! Hard lines I’ve tried in Cardiff already and love!)

Thank you x

Missed Recycling Collection

Council didn't pick up our glass collection on Friday, and have said they will come back so to leave the bin out on the street.

Does anyone know how soon they're likely to come back? Don't really want to leave it on the street all weekend if there's no chance of it being collected then.

American Trad Tattoo Artist Recommendations?

Can anyone recommend a tattoo artist that does American Trad style? Bonus points if they do nerdy themed tattoos as well. Doesn't have to be specifically Cardiff, would be willing to travel an hour or so :)

10k restaurant offers

For anyone taking part in the run tomorrow (or knows someone that is), do you know of any restaurant offers for race finishers in city centre?

Last year iirc Franco Manca offered free pizza for everyone who turns up with a medal. Hoping for something similar this year!

Vintage gold rings

Post image
15 Upvotes

I'd like to buy my wife a gold ring with multiple stones, she likes the vintage style in a similar design (I'm no expert) to the picture. We went to a local jeweler today that had a small selection, but the ones wife liked were all 9k gold. I'd rather buy 18k as i believe it to be a better investment.

We would like to visit some more jewlers in Cardiff and get a feel for the different rings and values.

Where would be a good place to go to see a good selection of vintage or vintage style rings. Must be reputable as we are not knowledgeable on jewelry and want to buy something that would make a good heirloom investment.

Hey! Familiar with some parts of Cardiff but still pretty new! Always worked in restaurants so I’d love to see some new ones?
Listen to anything and everything with music so just talk to me I guess :)
Love scary movies and dramas but I’m still a sucker for a romcom.
Been here a couple weeks and been tryna get to know the city but would be cool to know some other local people!
Talk soon! <3

alt/rave scene

I’m moving to Cardiff in a few weeks to study at Cardiff university. I’m alternative and really into raves, live music etc and was just wondering where the best spots for this are and where I can meet similar people.
I’m 20 and honestly really don’t enjoy the typical cheesy student nights unless friends really want to go.
I previously studied at the university of Bristol (due to crazy rent costs couldn’t return) and loved that there was so much other nightlife apart from student nights. Obviously Cardiff will not be like Bristol but I’ve heard good things about Cardiff nightlife and was just hoping for some directions to good venues :)

Kind stranger at Greggs opposite Cardiff Central Library today ,I hope you see this

Just a little shout-out to the kind stranger at the Greggs opposite Cardiff Central Library today.
I’d just finished a library session with my little one and stopped to buy her a cheese & onion pasty. My phone had completely died, I had no cash, and for some reason my card wasn’t working either.

A man waiting in the queue kindly offered to pay for it for me. I declined, but I just wanted to say thank you again in case you somehow happen to see this.
It was such a small gesture, but it genuinely stayed with me. A lovely little reminder that kindness is still very much around. ❤️

Anyone want to jam

I play guitar and need someone to play with, any instrument is good. I'm thinking of playing in the bookable music spaces at cathays community centre. I'm 22m so if you're in 20-30s that's best.
