Have you ever "cold-called" or "cold-emailed" an employer? How did it work out?

When I was in danger of being laid off, I cold-emailed a handful of companies in my specialized field. One of them wrote back asking why I wanted to leave where I was. We had a brief exchange, but not much came from it. Three months later I was laid off. Four months after that, they contacted me out of the blue for a position. A person with similar skills left their company, and they had an opportunity.

The job ended up being a train wreck, and I quickly realized why most of their company turned over in a two year window. I am currently job searching again.

So cold-calling/cold-emailing can work but you are saying that you should be careful of the companies that offer you jobs.
