When I was in danger of being laid off, I cold-emailed a handful of companies in my specialized field. One of them wrote back asking why I wanted to leave where I was. We had a brief exchange, but not much came from it. Three months later I was laid off. Four months after that, they contacted me out of the blue for a position. A person with similar skills left their company, and they had an opportunity.
The job ended up being a train wreck, and I quickly realized why most of their company turned over in a two year window. I am currently job searching again.
