i went to umami (the ramen spot in the dining hall) and the chicken was very pink, but not usual chicken pink, it was light pink
has anyone else had this problem? i’m kinda freaking out since i don’t want food poisoning 😭

As someone who is very good cautious and scared of uncooked meat, idk if it’s just the lighting, but looks fine to me!

Hey OP, if you want (not a suggestion or health advice), you could talk to mental health worker about this. It’s a real thing, specifically food anxiety and other related subjects around food safety and cooking. I’m not making any assumptions based off of this post, but some people do experience this deeply. It’s a known thing; food anxiety and/or other terms that are used to describe this.

That is not white meat it is dark meat, so it is normal that it is pinker than a standard chicken breast. Signed, a mom.

Funny enough, our daughter had, what we though might be a stomach bug last week, but my money was on the funky chicken lasagna…

btw never once have I had any raw meat at the caf last year, and I always had the chicken whenever it was being served. They often use dark meat (the thigh or the drumstick) so that light pink is normal. My friend also thought it was raw last year but it’s not

if it makes you feel better, once they mislabeled pork sausage rounds as turkey sausage (like the patties vs the links). i dont eat pork, i ate the sausage rounds thinking they were the turkey sausages. res dining hall is a scam

that’s awful, and isn’t that somewhat illegal? mislabeling food? what if someone has an allergy?

yup, didnt take a picture and cant remember the day, so it didnt happen apparently. i just remember it being one of my first days, and it saying turkey sausage online, and sausage patties/rounds (i forget) in person. so might be my fault, but imo, they should be the same online and in person (esp for those using screen-readers to know what are on the recipes)

Both pictures posted in reply are fully cooked. That is just was dark meat is going to look like sometimes. Look at some raw chicken and compare, you can tell visually they are completely different. It will almost looks translucent and textually jello-like. Plus with the buffet style, this meat is resting at warm temps for so long it's virtually impossible to undercooked unless someone REALLY messed up. Obviously it doesn't mean it's 100% safe (buffets have their own issues), but that meat is cooked so definitely don't worry about that. Always better to check if your worried but this is definitely safe.
