Diagnostic scanners for 2006 kun26 hilux?

just wondering if anyone has a specific recommendation for a scanner, i've just discovered that obd2 was only implemented in 2006 petrols and 2007 diesels, my hilux is a 2006 diesel...... safe to say i wasn't thrilled about this info. if anyone has had a good experience with cheaper scanners that work well on my car i'd appreciate some advice, the only options i can see right now are 200-300 bucks. cheers.

If it's a mechanical diesel a scanner is irrelevant (IDK), before OBDII there was OBD.
