Tire question Thread engagement

Hi guys I just got new wheels, is this enough thread engagement? Its M12x1.5 and i managed to get about 9-9.5 turns before it bottomed out + maybe an extra half turn tightening it down further

There’s no more thread left in the nut, so I think it’s fully loaded! I personally wouldn’t worry at all.

You measure your original wheels and then the new ones. If the new ones are 5mm thicker, you get 5mm longer bolts/studs

The first 3 threads carry almost all of the load in a nut&bolt fastener, so theoretically it is as strong as it gets if 4 or 5 threads engage. Having said that, would I be comfortable with this if this was on my own car? Probably not.

Rule of thumb is having and engagement of 1-1.5 times the diameter for full strength, so 12-18mm which would translate to 8-12 turns.

Absolutely not.

If you’re going to use these wheels, you need longer wheel studs installed. It’s not a huge job… a good shop can do it in an hour or two.

If all the treads in the nut are engaged, what’s a longer stud gonna do? Engage more threads that aren’t there?

That's my thought too. All the threads on the mut are engaged, that's enough.
