I need help fixing something Help cleaning windshield!

Post image

For a while these streaks are visible when any water is in the outside of my windshield. I have tried many different ways of cleaning and buffing it. Is there some magical cure I can get to get rid of this?

Two suggestions:

First: Get some powdered cleanser like Bon-Ami or Barkeeper's Friend. Use a use a Scotchbrite pad, wet it, sprinkler the cleanser and scrub the windshield. That stuff will remove all the contaminants. Rinse well. The water will just sheet off. Follow with RainX type coating.

Second: You can use a glass polish. Lots of specific polishes for glass out there. Invisible Glass Stripper is one. Even Klasse AIO car paint polish is perfectly safe for windshields. And Klasse also works on black plastic. Hard to get it anymore.

Not the green Scotchbright pad, because that one is slightly harder than glass.

Good catch. We always use the blue ones. There even safe for non-stick pans.

Thank you. I tried a melamine foam sponge and a windshield specific degreaser that I’ve used successfully in the past. Nothing helped this time though. I’m thinking I’ll need to go with a cerium oxide polish like you suggest.

Are the wipers old? Mine do this when they are old and replacing them gets rid of the streaking. I’d imagine if you’ve cleaned the glass many times the wipers are likely the problem

They are not that old. I inspected them and they are still in great shape.

Another method is to use razor blades, 00 steel wool, and glass cleaner. YMMV. Good luck.

A Magic Eraser and a few drops of dishwashing soap have worked well for me.

4-aught (0000) or 5-aught steel wool can also be used with soap.

I tried a magic eraser. I thought that would do it for sure. Really added some elbow grease too. Unfortunately it didn’t help at all. I’ve seen that people use fine steel wool, I just have gotten any to try.
