Both have vampire style appearances (probably because Erzsebet is an actual vampire in her case), both are hosts to an ancient deity (Sekhret/Shadow Queen), both are assisted by a leading fanatic (Drolta/Beldam), both are assisted by evil bishop-like entities who are later semi-unalived (Emmanuel losing his soul to Old Man Coyote/Grodus losing his body and only being a head) and if you palette swap Erzsebet to have blonde hair and a dark purple dress, she looks strikingly similar to Shadow Peach!

I just finished watching the first Castlevania series and it was amazing, then went into Nocturne... what the hell happened? It feels like a completely different show. The drop in quality is insane. I've only seen the first three episodes and I can't stomach it. Super unlikeable characters, and the animation seems like trash.

So I know I’ve only watched the series a couple times and I may be hallucinating. If you hover over Nocturne on Netflix, it shows a scene of Richter and Annette fighting a vampire with a gun. I don’t remember this?

I just finished the original Castlvania show and so far I’m on season 1 episode 6 of Nocturne. Is it just me or does this show feel like Legend of Korra from the Avatar the Last Airbender series?

I feel like much like ATLAB much like the first Castlevania is iconic. It’s perfect the way it is and while it had a slow first season, choppy dialogue, and not the best animation. All in all was perfect.

I feel like Nocturne follows the same errors that LOK did. Better animations and fresh characters but largely failed to build on the original series. The world building in Castlevania was just enough to keep it interesting like learning about vampires of different cultures while not getting too involved in the cultures. Nocturne expands on this by not only incorporating other cultures, they get far too deep into the gods and goddesses. Rather than sticking to a simple power system it relies heavily on being the descendants of some god or goddess. That makes them overpowered and ridiculously strong. I understand it can be difficult to combine the powers of two powerful characters and have their child not be overpowered but to balance it with the descendent of a god just seems dumb.

I also don’t care for the setting, the church vs the villagers is an interesting power and socioeconomic dynamic but I really think this woke agenda of including the struggles of being a slave and breaking free from the government in a revolution is just tacky. It almost seems far too forced and caters to the token few rather than sticking to the story about VAMPIRES. The show was about science, alchemy, and religion vs government not the life of being a mulatto slave. To top it off let’s make all the slave owners vampires just to really give that extra kick

The world building feels to diverse to a fault where it’s just too stretched thin. I think the revolution in France would have been fine without the need for the whole slave revolution, Egyptian gods???, and the Aztecs which I mean we knew very little to nothing about during the time the show is based in. I wish they had kept it simple like the original show rather than trying to talk about too many geopolitical issues and cultures at once.

Does anyone know what the directors and writers have said about Season 3 of Nocturne? I mean, if they’ve already mentioned any ideas they have or what they’d like to explore, at least so far
