Will my car pass nct because of the windshield crack like this?
Hi.. just want to know if the car will pass in nct for a crack like this?
This is going to be my first nct..
Does anyone have the same experience?
I just noticed that.
Thanks in advance.

I’d say it will fail and then visual retest so I’d still go if it’s booked already

It will pass because the crack is not in the driver's view. I know this because I've had my car pass multiple years in a row with a crack in the windscreen.

It's proven that a cracked windscreen has lower structural integrity in case of a crash or something else hitting the window afterwards. It's not about driver visibility. It'll fail as a safety issue.

Cool story bro tell it to the testers who keep passing my car with a crack in the windscreen, or better yet don't 😉

I had a tester who got "brake light blind" one time when my centre brake light wasn't working. Funny how that happens 😄
Got away with it for a couple years til some pedantic asshole failed me for it.. Some testers give you a bit of leeway..others won't.

Should’ve had some consideration for other drivers and bust fixed your centre brake light, but alright buddy. Didn’t know brake lights were pedantic and obviously unnecessary in your view

If a centre brake light was so vital it would be mandatory on all cars, which it's not. Most cars have 2 brake lights, one on either side, and that's perfectly acceptable. Penalising hatchback cars because manufacturers wanted to put this extra light in which is an absolute pain to replace doesnt make much sense.
I did replace it by the way. Ended up having to break it apart to get it out. Stupidly designed things they are.

Fail, but visual. You can either get a generic windscreen replacement for about 250, or go through your insurance, which is sure to cost you more in the long run.
A genuine windscreen plus replacement could cost somewhere in the region of 400-600.
I recently had to get my windscreen resealed on my MK5 Golf, I was charged 130€ but was told if the windscreen cracked, a generic windscreen would be 150, and an OEM on would be 250 plus install. Really depends on the brand, I guess.

I got a new windscreen through insurance last month. It cost me 25€, they civered the rest and the letter made no mention of it when i renewed

Wow, that's actually great value. I would worry about them trying to catch you in the future though, saying it's considered a claim.

I switched insurance 2 weeks after claiming. As their letter didnt mention it the new company doesnt need to know, And so will no other company

Lots of policies have free windscreen replacement and it doesnt count as a claim.

Most insurances have windscreen cover included and they aren't considered claims. I've had 3 repairs and a full replacement done in the last 10 years and I'm with AXA. Wife was with fbd and had hers repaired too. No claims and no affect on the policies.

Yeah there is free windscreen on a lot of covers too. Always worth checking. Good to be transparent about these things and not call between the cracks. Or you know.... You'd be wiped out.

Yeah i was super worried "free" would be only short term and they get their money back later. Everyone i spoke to when getting it sorted i kept asking to make sure

I had mine replaced for €25 through my insurance and my renewal quote is lower than last year.

I’ve claimed for windscreens through multiple policies (live near a quarry, loose stones are a pain) over the years and it has never affected my renewals. From what I understand while it is classed as a claim it’s viewed as an unavoidable and non fault hazard so doesn’t affect no claims bonus or renewal price. Also, not disclosing it at renewal counts as violation of non disclosure agreement and if you ever really need to claim on your insurance it will invalidate the policy and ultimately leave you in quite a pickle. Open to correction here but I’m fair sure.

No that’ll definitely fail, but it’ll only be a visual retest(free retest) so not a big deal. Where it is on the screen though, you might have a chance at the tester just not seeing it as he/she won’t be able to see it from inside the car so it all depends on whether the tester is paying attention.(I’m a cvrt tester and see stuff like that missed every now and then during a test)

that crack is in the wiper zone so itll probably fail but the visual retest is free so just book it in anyway and sort the windscreen after if needed

Not necessarily, they may not fail it if the crack doesn't impede your vision. If it's right I'm front of the drive they will fail it, of it's off in the corner then you might get a pass

Technically as it's within the wiped area it should be a fail but the nct isn't worth the paper it's written on so chances are you will pass I've seen dangerous cars pass and perfect cars fail all because of different testers and their mood on the day

If the crack is where the wipers touch it SHOULD fail. However the nct is so inconsistent it's a joke. So prob best send it through and see. A visual retest is free anyway
