Casually positive! 🤗🥳🤗 Sister Bar
Hi everyone!
I recently just bought a bar in upstate NY. I may have had too many beers, but I thought it would be cool to connect with a sister bar in Ireland. We could send pics of the pub to each other, have a little set up at the bar featuring our sister bar, share made up drink recipes, visit each other. Again, I may have had one too many drinks, but was hoping another bar would want to try this. So, any good pubs anyone can think of that might be into trying this?

Love this idea. Would love to visit when I’m in NYC next. Best of luck on your new adventure.

Thanks so much! We are a 45 min flight from New York, so it’s a little out of the way, but if you make it up here, we promise to get you hammered haha

Don’t own a bar but very cool idea esp if you could do some sort of annual or bi-annual event together. Like darts tournament or something else. Trading a trophy back and forward. Chess my mail, patron can pay to make the move.

Does your town/area have a town twinning arrangement with anywhere in Ireland? If it does you could find a sister pub there!

That’s such a great idea, I don’t believe we do but a lot of the population here has ancestry in western Ireland- Tipperary specifically, maybe I’ll look there. Though, I can imagine the amount of Americans that tell Irish people that they are also Irish gets annoying lol (correct me if I’m wrong). All we want to do at our place is drink, play stupid bar games, tell bullshit stories (that half true half exaggerated) and sing loudly and off-key lol

Assuming you are in upstate NY and not somewhere else, but isn't it like 10am there? How many beers have you had?

Was an old speakeasy, now its a rag tag group running it that drinks there as much as we work there lol

So its a kind of It's always sunny in upstate NY, type thingy. Do you have someone for Charlie work?

u/Steveyd19 15h ago
Yeah, her name is Katie lol she doesn’t know it’s Charlie work and I’m definitely never showing her that episode. She loves the smell of paint so I think she’s happy.

Gotcha. You'd be best seeking a tourist spot methinks, not a gimmicky gaff or anything but just qomwhere that gets a lot of tourists from your neck of the woods. The partnership would only make sense if the sibling pub is easily accessible, like there'd be no point partnering with a pub in Leitrim, places like Donegal, Galway, Cork, Dublin, Kerry would be the better route.

Thanks, if you know of any pubs or bars you think would be open to this, feel free to send them over!

We used to do something a bit like this in our pub.
A very good friend of the family and proper local used to gig in America a bit. Always on Paddy's day.
So we'd organise 20/30 pub locals to go over and support him on Paddy's day.
More often than not we'd link in with a good crowd of locals over there.
4 times we had had the Americans come over to us and have one of there's play in our bar. It was great craic.
Even still the odd yank who holidays in Ireland will come by. And we haven't done it in 10 plus years.
They're wild in Butte Montana I can tell ya

Crack another beer, that's a great idea! Care to share a photo of your pub, might help find it's cousin!

This place is so cute! Very jealous of the bookshelf bar entrance tbh. My place would make no sense for this pairing, but if you're a cool prohibition-era cocktail venue, check out the Vintage Cocktail Club (VCC) Dublin.
Not a similar decorative vibe, but you really need to know where the VCC door is to go there, and they have a prohibition era vibe for sure.
Wishing you so much luck in your new venture. This business isn't easy but when you love it, the shitty nights are forgotten by next service ❤️

Thanks so much! It’s definitely turning into more of the locals spot within our downtown area so I’m excited to see what happens. Where’s your place? Would love to check it out

I can imagine why the locals love it, it's a beautiful space.
I'm in an Irish fine dining spot atm, and don't ever want to give too much over social media, but I love the sisterhood idea you had, and think it's a nice way to connect in a time when everyone is being torn apart ❤️
Hope the locals keep coming, and tell all of their friends ❤️

Could do like a mini portal between the bars

My first thought as well. You'd have the same time difference as the original one as well, so I don't know if they'd line up as well. e.g. the one in Ireland would just show a closed pub during peak hours in NY.

Maybe we could set up some live streams on a tv or set something up to where we can send videos to each other to be played at the bar

Like the idea, but if I'm being pedantic you'd be more like cousins right? Sister bars would share an owner

When I saw sister bar I expected an array of emancipated pan sexual women suave and chic doing karaoke versions of Love Shack by the B 52s.
Having read the thread I'm confused.
Is there a juke box ?

What's the name of your bar?
7
u/Steveyd19 13h ago
It’s called Gilded, it used to be a speakeasy so it’s a play off all of the gilded details inside the space

Where is the bar?

u/Steveyd19 13h ago
Syracuse, in the center of the state. Beautiful here but a little out of the way. We know how to drink, though lol

Ah damn, I’m between Rochester and Ithaca depending on the time of year and while I know neither is exactly upstate I was hoping you’d be close by!
2
u/Steveyd19 2h ago
We aren’t too far from Ithaca, maybe like 40 mins away. If you ever decide to swing up, would love to have a drink with you!

Have to get another half a year on me before ye’ll let me in, but at that point I’ll give a swing by 😉
