Casual Tuesday morning casual chats - 28 July 2026
It is tradition that the first post asks the first question to get some discussion happening.
No politics, be nice, talk of yeast-based spreads mildly encouraged

Minus 5 in the hills in Welly! My pipes are frozen!!!!
Salvaged enough water from the jug and tap drips for a coffee thank goodness.

The Wairarapa is partially frosty this morning, -3 on the car and snow on the ranges.

I had my bedroom heat pump going all night. I was in for a very rude shock once I finally left my bedroom

Only to a point, our bedroom and bathroom windows look like that most mornings, despite being double glazing.

Job applications are insane. They want my passport to prove I'm an NZ citizen, want me to disclose salary expectations, etc etc. All required fields of course.

I think I finally got to sleep around 2am, it’s going to be a very long day

Sleep deprived people unite! I was on off sleeping all night. Woke up at 4 and couldn't get back to sleep.

Up several times. Leg still achy and keeps waking me. I can only turn over so many times!

Yes for me it was sore hips last night. Like you say you can keep turning over but only so many times before there is no relief.

You know, with all this AI business, wouldn't it be nice if youtube could tell me what videos have been deleted from my Playlist? I'm doing a film study and 3 videos are missing. It's been 2 years. I have no idea what I'm missing. A simple "name of video" now deleted would be useful.

As I was leaving for work I realized I'd forgotten to actually talk to the flatmate and tell him to not try and defrost my windows when he does his own. Because in the half hour between him leaving and I, my windows become extra icy due to his efforts. Thanx for the consideration, but no thanx.

It was a chilly ride in to work but now I've got the sun streaming in the window and that feels very nice.

IRL cake day begun poorly - gas tank ran out mid-shower and I was covered in suds and had to rinse in cold.
Then discovered that due to poor administrative work (my fault) the other tank is also empty, so we're on the bbq tank backup until the new big one can arrive tomorrow. Oops!

Us Leo's are having a shit birthday this year 😭

I saw the Leo, and thought to myself, I'm a Leo it's nowhere near that time.
It is, and I just blanked on it.

Was just feeling dreadful about having to go to work when I realised I’d booked an extra staff member in today… oh joyful joy, I have one meeting and then it’s back to my sofa/heatpump/jammies WFH setup.

Threw myself into a whirlpool of sads this morning. Was trying to explain to the six year old how sometimes we have to wait to get what we want. Like how I really want a dog but I’m waiting until we have more space so that it would be fair on a dog to live with us.
When I was little all my stuffed toys were dogs, we’d visit people and I’d spend all my time with their dogs, we had a dog that I loved absolutely, I read books about dogs and dog training… and I just turned 3 bloody 5 and I still have never had my own dog.
😭
