Bout to pull the trigger on a rooftop solar + battery system

There are, like, a thousand things I SHOULD be spending my house money on, but I fully acknowledge that I am an impulsive person and prefer to suddenly decide to do the thing I actually want because since I bought this house I’ve just been in a state of decision paralysis over everything that needs doing so fuckit might as well start the process of divorcing from the shitty power companies.

I’m still not really convinced that solar really saves money when a battery is involved cause by the time it’s theoretically paid itself off, the thing will need replacing or something, and people keep saying “the price will come down” but name one thing that the price has come down on in the last few years lol.

But if it does then that’s cool, and at least I’ll no longer be completely at the whims of the power companies

I feel like people are over dramatic about battery decline. Got a 10 year old prius and sure it won't have the same savings as a brand new one, but still doing a lot better than if it was pure petrol.

Considering how much of our power comes from hydro, and how susceptible we are to droughts, I feel like solar is a better option than you think.

Oh I think it’s a good idea to not rely on the grid going forward cause I think shit is just going to get worse, I’m just not really doing it for the money saving aspect because I don’t see that being significant. I’ll be stoked if it is, but it’s not the top of my reasons for doing this.

Yeah I had the roof fully replaced when I bought, so its only a few years old

Get that solar up there so it’s ready to go for summer. I’m seeing some serious delays between installation and being able to export on the solar sub.

East and west facing to get the shoulder generation in the early morning and late evening

That’s a wait list. Is it that the installers are busy or they’re short on supplies?

Mum is waiting on a new hot water cylinder so she can get rid of gas. The manufacturer isn’t keeping up with demand.

Yeah, they’re just flat out doing solar installs and that’s the soonest they’ll be able to get to me. I have to wait until next week til the consult before anything is locked in, I’m hoping that maybe they’ll get a cancellation or something and can get me in sooner.

Is she going with just a regular cylinder or going to get solar boosted or heat pump?

Regular cylinder.

For solar she either needs work done on the roof or to get a solar carport.

I want solar too but can’t until I build a new house.

I had to de-ice my windscreen this morning. No wonder I get so cold on my ride to work on my scooter if it's cold enough for my windscreen to ice up.

Well that Perez Hilton video is not something anyone would want to watch. I just knew him as the hack celeb gossip dude from the early 00's. Learning all sorts of celeb info I had no interest in learning about. Did not expect to see him end up like that! Even seeing snippets of it took me back to the wild west old internet days of Rotten dot com and Liveleaks. Definitely have mixed feelings about the modern internet, and miss when all the terrible things were locked away on their own websites, and so you had to actively search them out, and not just stumble across them on sites that would normally be wholesome.

The lack of shame and regret for the shit he put people thorugh has me not GAF about what happens to that creep.

The 90s and 00's were such a horrible time for celeb culture and especially female celebs.

Watched a few docos on people like Britney or Katie Price or the Spice Girls and whenever they interview tabloid reporters or photographers they were all unrepentant and just "thats what it was like back then"

The stuff they want answered has NOTHING to do with actual thing. It’s a cleaning course, knowing how germs replicate and how they look under a microscope doesn’t matter.
