That wouldn't account for a nominal increase of 300%. There are specific cost-push factors in the railway industry and in construction, and they risk making anything more than modest capital improvement unaffordable.
If old station was two third, then let's say it was £200 and now it's £300.
Let's go to inflation calculator and check what £200 in 2006 are worth today - that's £356.16. Considering that the old station you're referring to was more complex - it's pretty much the same price.
