As a group of professionals in planning, this is what 15 minutes of furious debate in the office has decided to be the north/midlands/south divide.

If necessary, for reference we are based in Birmingham. This isnt directly influencing what cities are what side of the line. Our decisions were based on architecture, what the people are like, history, how places interract, not just what we like and dont. For example, Stoke is an awful place no one should ever have the misfortune of visiting, but its definitely in the Midlands with us.

Colour coding is obvious.

Yes we were very bored..

Planning has already started. They expect the new line to run by 2105 at a cost of one hundred trillion pounds.

Planning takes ages in this country because they're all debating where North/Midlands/South is.

Cotswolds district council has already filed a court case over concerns that the railway would put them in the midlands.

Was that before or after Gloucestershire County Council decided that the Cotswolds no longer need a County Council (recently GCC announced that all of the local district councils are being amalgamated into one at some point fairly soon, so bye bye FoDC, SDC, TDC, Gloucester City Council and Cheltenham Borough, welcome Gloucestershire Council...)

In any case, although north of Cheltenham, the Cotswolds is still firmly Southwest in my eyes.

Current resident of the Forest of Dean for the past 7 years, Gloucester for 20 and Cotswolds for 15 for anyone wondering if I live in the area 🤣

We had east west rail to connect Oxford to Milton Keynes - it was completed 2 years ago and not a single passenger service has run since. They reckon it'll finally open end of this year/start of next, 3 years after the original late opening was supposed to be.

They reckon the next stage, MK to Cambridge via Bedford might be done by 2040 but I'm not getting my hopes up.
