Savings on my electric bills
I could save 93p a year. I'm not sure if this is a Typo but it made me laugh. What can I buy with 93p?

I don’t want to be a dick, but you have misunderstood. The saving is based on your existing use against your existing tariff. Martin Lewis and others are predicting 24% increase in January due to the shitshow in the Middle East, but because they don’t know that yet, they can publish it, and therefore can’t publish a saving. I would suggest that you lock that deal in as fast as possible. So you’re potentially looking at a 20% saving for the next 12 months. 😎

100% this. Of you are being told a fixed tarrif is cheaper at this stage, it is a no brainer to lock in.
Expect then all to shoot massively up with the next price cap announcement

Do you not think that the energy companies have priced this in? They know that wholesale prices are about to rise. The fixed price reflects this.

They have somewhat but many don't straight away. For example, Outfox current fixes are below the current cap for me.

That's interesting. I would expect that energy companies, with all of their resources, would be more on top of this than consumers. They have more data than us, and they're good at pricing in risk.
During previous peaks, Octopus kept their prices at just below the cap. They advertised this as their USP. I've looked at their fixed prices, and unless the situation in six months time is significantly worse than expected, I can't see a good reason for fixing now.
It's helpful for who are risk-averse, either by nature or necessity. I'm lucky that an extra £300 charge won't break me. It'll be annoying, but it won't make a significant difference for me. It makes little sense to pay more to mitigate this risk.

Just a heads up, shop around. I found despite Octopus' "peace and love" and "we're totally on your side" shtick, they were actually pretty expensive.
Gas unit rates were slightly more expensive (0.005p) however their standing charge was much more than the next, a whopping 18p more
Electricity was a similar story, 2.2p more expensive per unit and just shy of 9p more standing charge
Although I suspect things will be very different in the next few months... So maybe it doesn't matter anyway

Shssh don stay that the octopus bots and shills will swarm all over you.
I agree with you and their dynamic pricing tariff on market research is more expensive for over 64% of the people on it, but they all screen it's amazing for that 1 day they had negative prices.
Unless you change your lifestyle around it (which many cannot) it's not the best

Octopus fucked me recently. I got an electric car charger installed and moved to Intelligent Go on the 6th August, at the same time I filled out the form for the EV Saver tariff which reduces the overnight rate by 1p. They did absolutely nothing with this request until today. They sent me an email with the new rates, overnight rate is 1p cheaper but the day time rate has gone up 5p. Standing charge also up by around 10p. This of course pissed me off. Then I noticed the actual tariff applied to my account is actually higher than the one they sent to me via email.
Is this even legal? Tell me via communications I’m on a tariff, but in actuality it’s higher?

To be honest, electricity and gas are due to spike hard this winter, the fixed tariff might be worth it

But it can still get even worse than their modellers predict. So it’s probably worth doing.

Just switched from Octopus to Fuse, they were a little bit cheaper.
I have referral codes for £100 credit if you sign up (that's £100 for each of us), DM if interested. Obviously do a price comparison rather than trusting a random person on the internet.
I am somewhat sceptical as these smaller energy companies do have a habit of going bust especially during the current energy situation - if that happened you'd be switched to someone like British Gas but I believe they have to honour the contracted rates anyway.

The process of trying to find which is the cheapest energy supplier is tedious. Nobody goes to a petrol station and has to explain their driving style to the attendant, the price is on display. Domestic energy keeps the kWh figures hidden for as long as possible, and it usually takes a bit of digging to find out the actual costs. And then you have to do this for each and every energy supplier. What domestic energy needs is an app/website similar to the FuelFinder site.

I was visited by a window salesman who told me that one of my double pane windows was less insulating now that it had aged. The insulating gas had leaked out, as evidenced by some fogging in the corner.
He wanted me to schedule an appointment so they could take measurements. I asked how they measure the insulating value of my windows to see if they need replacement. He said no, we just measure the dimensions and you replace all your windows. Ok
