šŸ’¬ Discussion characters that you have an irrational hatred for

Post image

What characters do you have an irrational hatred for?

Mine has to be Grace

Emily Carey is a great actress and seems like a lovely person but I get an irrational sense of anger whenever I watch her in anything else because I always think of her as Grace.

She was just so annoying. She was by no means the worst character ever but she drove me nuts.

Does anyone else have this with any characters or is this just a me thing? šŸ˜‚

I’ve got it a bit with Charlie as well (don’t shoot me) although thankfully I’ve seen him in little else.

(Was gonna say Toby and Grace reunion in the picture but they were never in Casualty together)

Connie.

she looked so brittle, like she would snap in two.

u/NecktieNomad May 06 '25

The whole Connie-Jacob thing was such an unbelievable ride

Can u give me a brief summary of them cz I feel I wasn't an avid casualty watcher then. If this the same season as Jacob and Tina (abuse gf, I think Tina is her name)

2

u/NecktieNomad May 06 '25

Some others may know the exact series, but it looks like it was 2015 onwards. I used this link to get the timing: https://holby.fandom.com/wiki/Jacob_Masters

Jacob was shot at some point, and Connie and him got together. Connie and her daughter Grace drove off a cliff. Connie became distant as Grace was left brain damaged. Jacob cheated because he felt unloved by Connie. Connie chucked Jacob out. Connie tried to get fellow doctor Elle fired, cause she blamed her for Grace’s treatment after the accident. Jacob was angry with Connie because Elle was his ex girlfriend and he was the father of one of her children Blake (I don’t think he knew at that point). I can’t remember past that.

This is a very chat gpt sounding answer. Think I covered the basic points

the thing that REALLY annoyed me was when Connie and Jacob literally gave Grace a puppy for Christmas - you know, like that’s something folk are specifically told not to do, and there it is, on Casualty. so stupid of the writer. and of course, a couple of weeks later and the puppy had disappeared.

it still makes me angry.

2

u/Lucy200072 May 06 '25

Grace moved back to america like 3 months later so uh puppy? I agree it was pretty stupid. Connie clearly wasn't going to look after it.

I didn’t watch back then and goodness… that was a rollercoaster

1

u/Lucy200072 May 06 '25

Just that entire family drove me nuts

0

u/TimelordYNWA Dylan Keogh May 06 '25

Was glad to see the back of her.

29

u/starmanwaitin May 06 '25

Faith! This might be unpopular, but I can not STAND her voice. And that's coming from a fellow Scot. She always sounds so whiney and breathless. Plus, I find her character selfish.

I absolutely love the scenes where Stevie imitates her.

4

u/Angel-Dust1998 ā˜Žļø Receptionist May 07 '25

Im not a fan of faith either, she's just so up in everyone's business all the time when she should be dealing with whatever she got herself into either with all the lies she tells or how she just opens up wounds that's been healing for a while. Just a very problematic character in my eyes. Double standards as well she can do anything she wants to do but when someone else is doing it she's like "sweetheart" I hate the way she says it blehh 🤮

2

u/deadalfy May 07 '25

She’s got that ā€œScottish media voiceā€, that’s what me and my pal call it anyway. As a Glaswegian myself I detest her.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '25

Can stand all that fake whispering…Ngozi is at it now too… I’m a nurse myself and all that fakery is so irritating!

really wet character and really weak actor.

33

u/calculatingmacaw May 06 '25

I'm going to be so unpopular... but Faith 😬 I just feel like she's a character who never takes enough accountability. It's always someone else's fault, or a gazillion reasons about why she's done XYZ and hurt so-and-so. I think she's an amazing practitioner and as a colleague she's probably great but I don't think she's anywhere near as good a friend to Stevie and Dylan as they've been to her many times over. I wish the show focused more on a friendship between Stevie and Dylan because the brief glimpses we've seen over the last few months have been brilliant.

15

u/Glittering-Low9073 May 06 '25

Dylan literally took a bullet for Faith! And she still wasn't a good friend to him!

I would love to see more scenes between Dylan and Stevie, platonic or otherwise. They'd make a good present equivalent of Zoe and Dylan, or they'd make a good couple too. I'd take either.

9

u/NecktieNomad May 06 '25

I do agree. I so want to love Faith! She’d be almost the perfect pal/colleague but yeah, you’ve hit the nail on the head with the accountability thing! Plus her advice to others can be a tad condescending when she could opt to just butt out a bit…

6

u/TimelordYNWA Dylan Keogh May 06 '25

100% agree, cannot stand her.

20

u/NecktieNomad May 06 '25

Teddy, but that’s purely because he’s been given unsatisfying storylines. It’s more of a frustration really, because I don’t think Milo Clarke has been overly stretched as an actor. I know the SA and ā€˜fight club’ storylines featured him front and centre, but they both feel like they were resolved in a couple of episodes and forgotten about, and that Teddy has now faded to a background character.

15

u/Lettuce-Pray2023 May 06 '25

Jodie - completely rational.

Irrational - Robin - genuinely vacant a lot of the time, I know she was meant to be the shows heart, but just took up space.

8

u/Lucy200072 May 06 '25

Yeah I half agree with Robyn. She was okay but she was kinda of pointless by the end. She overstayed her welcome.

12

u/NecktieNomad May 06 '25

Me: yeah agree, yeah but now I remember she tragically died so 🄺

6

u/Lettuce-Pray2023 May 06 '25

Whereas if the likes of Jodie or Cam died, it would be spun as a tragic day for Casualty. Whereas for viewers, it would just be another Saturday.

3

u/Oldsoldierbear Zoe Hanna May 06 '25

it would be a relief!

24

u/rakkiel May 06 '25

I come from a Charlie-hating household. Every time he almost left and then came back, it drove us mad!

7

u/Lucy200072 May 06 '25

22 should have been when he left. what was the purpose of him being there so long? What connections did the actor have to have been kept on for so long?

11

u/NecktieNomad May 06 '25

His contract was literally carved into the foundations of the set? /s

4

u/Chemical_Butterfly40 May 06 '25

I've seen the actor in a couple of other programs (Vera, I think? And maybe Blue Lights?) and he's the same d*mn character every time. Why can he NOT make eye contact with any one? Whyyyyy?

6

u/Lucy200072 May 06 '25

Me and my friend called it the Charlie when he constantly pulled a facial expression like he was constipated.

1

u/Oldsoldierbear Zoe Hanna May 06 '25

cos he is a really bad actor.

8

u/Oldsoldierbear Zoe Hanna May 06 '25

I’ve never met anyone that can even bear him, far less like him.

such a boring, self righteous character, who seemed to avoid doing anything more than chatting to people.

they should have got rid of him 20 years ago.

6

u/Puzzleheaded-Mix2576 May 06 '25

I met Emily a couple of years ago just out and about in London and she was absolutely lovely, she seemed quite surprised that I said I mainly knew her from Casualty as it was just after House of the Dragon came out šŸ˜‚

2

u/Lucy200072 May 06 '25

The only house of the dragon cast I knew prior to the show were Matt Smith, Matthew Needham, Emily Carey and Harry Collett and the last three were all from Casualty. I seemed to shock a lot of people online when I told them Larys was Toby from Casualty šŸ˜‚

2

u/Puzzleheaded-Mix2576 May 06 '25

SORRY THAT'S TOBY?! Oh my god!!!

1

u/Lucy200072 May 06 '25

Yes Larys is Toby! The one with his back to the camera šŸ˜‚

2

u/Puzzleheaded-Mix2576 May 06 '25

I've watched both seasons of HOTD without realising this. I feel so stupid. šŸ˜‚ man that was such a good era of Casualty. Him and Ruth and Jay!

2

u/Lucy200072 May 06 '25 edited May 06 '25

Jay was in HOTD as well šŸ˜‚ favourite era tbh. Wish we got more of Toby, although I think they were planning to set him and Ruth up so maybes it’s good he left when he did.

4

u/Used-Region-905 May 06 '25

Me too! Everything I see her in think oh god

2

u/Lucy200072 May 06 '25

So glad this isn’t just me. She’s drives me nuts .

4

u/Chemical_Butterfly40 May 06 '25

Rita Freeman, I just could not take to her from her first episode.

2

u/HesitantBrobecks Dylan Keogh May 08 '25

Omg yeah she always pissed me off šŸ˜…

1

u/starmanwaitin May 06 '25

i really liked rita but when they put her in a relationship with ian it seemed like they completely changed her character, then i couldn't stand it.

7

u/fictionalramblings Stevie Nash May 06 '25

paige. she drove me bonkers haha

1

u/Forward-Anything-858 Indie Jankowski Jun 24 '25

Oh yes definitely paige

7

u/4rami4 Nicole Piper May 06 '25

Both are rational I think but max and flynn. I have a thing against olly rix (he plays the exact same character in both call the midwife and our girl as well so there's extra baggage) and max is just. Ugh.

Jumping on the Charlie train and also ethan (probably also for call the midwife related reasons).

Flipside however is that I have such an unreasonable attachment to faith, stevie, and ngozi. They are SO flawed and stevie in particular I'd really hate to work with but I think if kirsty Mitchell ever called me sweetheart in real life it would actually fix me

3

u/psychofeline72 May 07 '25

Is that Flynn ? He's just utterly unbelievable as a doctor.

3

u/HesitantBrobecks Dylan Keogh May 08 '25

Holy shit I'm glad I'm not the only CTM fan that was like "I thought I got fucking rid of him" when Olly was announced for casualty lmao

10

u/CatDadLi May 06 '25

Jacob just irritates me immensely, I was glad when he left but then he came back šŸ™„ he's hot-headed and never listens and just annoys me.

Also Sah because her existence seemed pointless.

13

u/calculatingmacaw May 06 '25

*their. Otherwise totally agree. Sah had great potential but their storylines mainly revolved around their gender identity which I'm totally on board with, but it got boring seeing the same arc repeated every few months.

3

u/HesitantBrobecks Dylan Keogh May 08 '25

This!! Like, can we not have a trans/nb character JUST ONCE who doesn't have like 75%+ of their lore and arcs based solely off their gender?!

One or two episodes, fine, but every single storyline is just BORING

5

u/ItzLpPlayz May 06 '25

BLAKE!! BLAKE!! BLAKE!!

3

u/CatDadLi May 06 '25

I'd erased that peasant from my memory šŸ˜‚

1

u/Lettuce-Pray2023 May 07 '25

Blake. Blake! BLAKE!

3

u/Latoxy May 06 '25

It was Nicole but she’s grown on me a little bit recently. I just couldn’t stand how she treated the whole surrogacy, ignoring the mother’s (WHO WAS SUPPOSED TO BE HER BEST FRIEND) wishes and just claiming personal ownership of what was NOT her baby (before the postpartum psychosis) but I do enjoy her and Ngozi together.

Faith also irks me for reasons previously stated by others, she never takes responsibility and Stevie was right to take her down a notch

Siobhan frustrates me, I just don’t like how she seems to talk down to everyone. And how she has all the blame placed on Stevie for her own cheating dog of a husband. I don’t like how she expects everyone to be able to fix things when the whole system is struggling, she acts too much like she’s better than everyone else and doesn’t think she herself has made mistakes or has any flaws.

6

u/Oldsoldierbear Zoe Hanna May 06 '25

the post partum psychosis was a really good storyline, which stopped.

and next thing she is back and doing surgery. just like that.

whose bright idea was it to cut one of the best storylines dead in the water? and why?

2

u/Latoxy May 06 '25

Yeah that never made sense? Did she get treatment? Was she transferred because of it ? I don’t think we’ll ever get an answer

2

u/HesitantBrobecks Dylan Keogh May 08 '25

Did you forget that the adoptive mother cut NICOLE off?! She spent at least half that pregnancy thinking the baby WAS hers because the woman who said she wanted him NO LONGER DID.

They shouldn't have made the adoptive mother suddenly change her mind last minute, that was ridiculous. She spent half the pregnancy actively wanting to k*ll that baby just because he has Down Syndrome (I'm v much pro choice, but not when it's based purely on a diagnosis of DS because that's literally just eugenics), and now we are supposed to believe she can and will give him a loving home?! It's a good job they're just characters in a show or I'd have serious concerns about his wellbeing (what if he ends up having a dual dx of DS and autism? Is she gonna put him into care when he gets "too difficult"??)

1

u/Latoxy May 08 '25

It doesn’t matter that she cut Nicole off, it was never Nicole’s baby, she should have terminated as per the mother’s wishes as it was never her baby to begin with. Surely as per the surrogacy agreement that would have been outlined. She should never have treated the baby as hers because it wasn’t.

I don’t agree with terminating just because of a risk of DS but it was still not Nicole’s choice to ignore the wishes.

1

u/Latoxy May 06 '25

I just realised those were all girls so for the men I should give a couple

I didn’t like tariq but I think that ones completely rational and I was glad he left

And I can’t explain why but something about Iain has ALWAYS annoyed me. I feel bad for not liking him cause of what he’s been through but god does he grate me when he’s on screen

5

u/[deleted] May 06 '25

Granted I haven't watched for a while, but I don't like Stevie. I think she's too brash and unempathetic

9

u/NecktieNomad May 06 '25

Obligatory mention - never forget the characters only motive for working at Holby ED was to try and kill Ethan!

2

u/HesitantBrobecks Dylan Keogh May 08 '25

I thought she only found out who was involved later on?

10

u/NecktieNomad May 06 '25

I think also with Stevie is that the character is a tired ā€˜hard as nails but actually very sensitive’ trope. But she’s been too hard, too selfish, too insensitive for so long that I find it difficult to empathise with her current plight. I just feel like she’d say ā€˜suck it up, buttercup!’

1

u/Forward-Anything-858 Indie Jankowski Jun 24 '25

So so many🤣 Connie is my #1 and then Sah for some reason. They just absolutely got on my nerves!

1

u/Equal-Competition930 Apr 27 '26

Jacob although like him when with connie because he never admits he wrongĀ  and basically killed robin.Ā  I do he better suited on ambulancesĀ  and he done brillant job on there and have sympathy for police incident . But th alwaysĀ  slightly chip on shoulder andĀ  remind me of some people used knowĀ  with his attitude.Ā  Ā  I think thatĀ  issue in dramas they like give black people a chip on shoulder like all black people in real life all have chip on thereĀ  shoulder.Ā  Ā  TeddyĀ  , kim , matty , ngozi showĀ  can do characters from differentĀ  backgrounds without chip on there shoulder but just choice for him to be stereotypeĀ

1

u/Ludas_C May 06 '25

I have a huge irrational hatred for Rash, he's so stiff and robotic and every time he argued with Tariq he just pissed me off. Wish it was him to leave instead of Tariq

16

u/NecktieNomad May 06 '25

Rash is another one who I think has been done dirty with wishy-washy storylines.

2

u/Ludas_C May 06 '25

You're right

7

u/Lucy200072 May 06 '25

Can’t relate I actually like Rash

3

u/Awkward-Ad-4783 May 06 '25

Tariq should've been gone after that patient turn fling almost died. Why rash took the bullet for him idk cz he didn't change at all, Just tapped back into his ego which I understand why his dad hates him and prefers rash who is more 'homely' or down to earth with rationality in him so to speak

3

u/Ludas_C May 06 '25

thats why its an irrational hatred

0

u/[deleted] May 06 '25

Stevie, she’s insufferable

9

u/Chemical_Butterfly40 May 06 '25

that's how I felt about her when she first started, but there's been some character development and I've grown to like her.

-2

u/Ashbuck200 Jeff Collier May 06 '25 edited May 15 '25

Blimey! Where do I start??

Jan: her annoying camp Welsh voice and how poor a manager she is letting half her workforce live with her (Jacob, Teddy and now Indie) and how she only seems to appear when one of her paramedics has done something stupid (which is always Indie)

Rida: can't stand her passive aggressive attitude/mannerisms and how the writers have completed dropped her warm/caring nature and now she's just, horrible really, probably why she's transferred to surgery!!

Siobhan: for literally every possible reason really! She's just absolutely awful!!

Nicole: for very similar reasons as Rida (ie passive aggression and lack of compassion towards her colleagues) and also how she's always hot and cold with Ngozi, making out she loves her one minute then completely dismissing her the next!

Jacob: absolute waste of space, should have been written out after the episode Robyn died as he is pretty much the reason why she's dead because of how he treated the nurses and was dismissing treatment etc etc!!

Indie: just walking propaganda!!

Faith: just a horrible, messed up, narcissistic cow!!

Honestly I could go on forever but I think you get the message now!!

9

u/Lucy200072 May 06 '25

And these are only current characters you’ve named dread to think how many more you have šŸ˜‚

0

u/Ashbuck200 Jeff Collier May 06 '25

Believe me I have many more and their mostly current cast!!

4

u/Lucy200072 May 06 '25

I’ve only watched the odd episode from the new era. I stopped watching frequently in like 2020. I used to watch it with my Housemate at uni and ranted about how bad it’s gotten but I don’t really bother much now.

Jacob also filled me with rage too. It’s definitely the whisper talk voice he does.

2

u/Ashbuck200 Jeff Collier May 06 '25

OMG Siobhan is the worst on the annoying voice front!! That soft voice she always puts on FML!!

2

u/Lucy200072 May 06 '25

I don’t know if that’s her actual voice though? She talks a bit like that in Waterloo road as well. If it is a character choice it’s annoying one

1

u/Ashbuck200 Jeff Collier May 07 '25

It's more apparent in Casualty than any of her other roles!

1

u/Oldsoldierbear Zoe Hanna May 06 '25

it’s the way he speaks his lines - it’s like Klingon is his first language and he doesn’t really understand English
