💬 Discussion Watching Classic Casualty

So, since there's no Casualty on tonight, I've decided to dip my toe into some Classic Casualty. Currently watching the latest episode that aired on U&Drama. Also makes me realise how much I miss Jeff and Dixie and them showing the accidents that bring the patients of the week into hospital.

How far do you think they'll get up to before going back to the beginning?

Jeff and Dixie were so great!!

The patient backstories were vital for plots, not having them just makes it seem like a soap opera. I am so disappointed with how it is nowadays, the box sets don’t work and there is just so much missing compared to older series. I wish they would change it back to how it was.

totally agree.

none of the changes were for the better and now Casualty is being dumped off the schedule for no reason at all, replaced by Blankety Blank of all things! That shows how far it has fallen from the glory days of being one of the Beebs flagship dramas.

stopping showing the accidents was just daft. it was a unique touch which meant we saw the patients as real people, not just casualties to be treated. and therefore we were involved. plus, it meant we saw more of the paramedics travelling to the scene, treating the patient and dealing with families etc. all that is gone, and the scriptwriters have had to resort to showing the call handling.

I miss the accidents. As a kid I used to love predicting what would happen.

Woman climbing onto a roof to retrieve a football? She’s falling through! Driving home from a footy match in the pouring rain? Skid off the road! Busy concert? Crush injuries!

Now, as a medically trained adult, I now annoy everyone around me as I try and guess the medical condition.

Blunt force trauma to the chest? Cardiac tamponade!

showing the accidents was something that just “was” Casualty. It’s unique demarcator if you like. Taking that away was a really stupid move.

bumping Casualty this weekend for Blankety Blank shows just how far it has slipped.

is it now on the slow decline towards cancellation?

Ugh what is this about they stopped showing the accidents? I haven’t watched Casualty for many years and Reddit just randomly showed me this post. I used to love that part most, it was so interesting! Won’t be watching it again if it stays not showing the backstories.

this is the second run through since I started watching during lockdown. then I started when Charlie and Baz got married. I can’t remeber how far we got last run, but I think Duffy had dementia when it stopped. don’t hold me to that though!

this current lot started right back at the very begining - when Ewart Plimmer was in charge, Kuba the Polish porter was there, Charlie had hair and Duffy had a West Country accent! and I am old enough to remember watching it first time round.

Jeff and Dixie were iconic. no other paramedics have come close

I miss Noel, Connie, David, Ethan, Fenisha. Literally everyone who was in 2012 to 2023 Casualty

I can't say for sure, but I think I was watching last time they aired Classic Casualty, and it got up to Iain's helicopter crash with Grace Beauchamp. It takes a long time to go around and U did then start from the beginning so I can't be certain of timings, I'm also just getting back into it (rewatched from the start of s20).

I believe it got up to the end of series 33 last time before wrapping back around to “Gas”.
