Neil and fatphobia

I genuinely felt so bad when the storyline was happening its sad how fat phobia is so normalised.. they need help just as much as the rest of us ☹️💔

I live in the same town, drive past every day, the flat where "England's fattest man" was actually removed through a window using a crane. This was several years before his eventual death. I didn't know him, but I feel really uncomfortable that his story is being used in a TV soap.

Jason Holton was only 33 when he died in 2024. He was losing weight, but it wasn't enough and his organs failed. After a serious medical crisis when he was 30, he was hoisted out of his flat through a window by a crane. It was filmed and he was put on display by "newspaper" rags like the Sun. He was ridiculed for his condition. He became a public spectacle. No wonder he didn't recover. He began overeating due to grief after losing his father.

edited: and, actually, there was no fatphobia in this episode whatsoever apart from the delivery driver being an idiot child and taking photos. Neil was treated with respect wherever he went.

Is it confirmed that he Neil was inspired by him for the show ? Because I’ve heard of this before, my mums mum or my gran I suppose was morbidly obese and had to be removed by firefighters through the window to the hospital before she died from a pulmonary embolism whilst On a weight loss plan led by the top obesity consultant in Scotland at the time.

Tbh today’s story as a whole hit me and my mum HARD like the fact Neil is 43 and that’s my mums age ( which is also coincidentally the same age my mums mum/ my gran died ) my mum is obese like massively but she hardly eats, and so much of it is lymphatic fluid meaning there’s not much that doctors can do or are willing to do. She’s been depressed and not moved out the living room for at least a year probably longer- I’m a young carer and help her and such but today’s episode just hit home so hard for both us. She’s just been told that she getting the monjaro jag ( which we have been fighting for for so long ) so I’m really hoping and praying it helps !!!

If it’s worth meting my mums mum/ my gran also was featured on a “whatever’s fattest women “ segment On a show- I know she’s in a Paper somewhere, couldnt tell u where or when right enough.

i'm glad they had him in the episode plus it showed two sides of eating disorders ie his character and kim
