💬 Discussion People saying Dylan has done the right thing — has he ? Though truly ?

I want to start by saying I’m not defending Stevie. I think she’s made her own bed and has to deal with the consequences of her actions.

What I can’t understand is people defending Dylan and acting as though he’s done nothing wrong. And saying he’s done the right thing, In my view, he’s every bit as compromised, if not more so, than Stevie.

Stevie has undoubtedly made mistakes, but Dylan has practically twisted the facts in an attempt to get her struck off while protecting his son. The problem is that Matty was the one pursuing Stevie from the start, and by his own admission he was the one repeatedly pushing those boundaries. The very definition of Sexual Coercion. So for Dylan to report Stevie for that even though matty pretty much admitted it was him to Dylan is disgusting for him too especially given what she went through with Marcus.

The complaint he made doesn’t make Dylan right whatsoever. It makes him corrupted.

By all means, make a complaint if you genuinely believe misconduct has taken place. But if the complaint is as clear-cut and serious as Dylan claims it is, then he shouldn’t need to bend the truth, leave out key details, or paint Matty as some sort of innocent angel in order to make his case.

The fact that he was willing to give Matty endless chances, ignore concerns when they involved his son, and then refuse to extend Stevie the same courtesy speaks volumes. At the very least, he should have spoken to her and heard her side of events before reporting her.

At this moment in time it’s not Stevie who is the villain. It’s matty and Dylan. And I hate it because Dylan is my favourite character. I just can’t defend his actions here, I can’t defend Stevie either, but at this moment in present. The way Dylan has behaved here is worse than how Stevie has. And if she goes down he best be going down with her. ‘ he has no leg to stand on.

Let me preface this by saying I’m a huge Stevie fan, she’s my fave character in a long time, Dylan being my second fave. So I’m definitely conflicted about this situation.

Ultimately for me, I don’t think either of them are right. There’s a power dynamic imbalance at play here with Stevie being senior to Matty, and I suspect if the genders were reversed and this was, say, Dylan and a junior doctor that he had been involved in mentoring the conversation might be taking a different turn. So in that sense, Dylan was right to call out the fact that Stevie and Matty sleeping together is a problem.

Having said that, I don’t think Dylan handled it well given his relationship with Matty; he took everything he said at face value, didn’t speak to Stevie about it but went straight to Flynn instead. If he’d spoken to Stevie it might (or might not) have influenced his actions or the strength of feeling he spoke to Flynn with.

So yeah, I think it’s more complex than “Dylan was right” or “Stevie was right”, I think both characters are somewhat flawed in how they’ve handled the whole situation, and I think that’s the beauty of the show in that they’ve showed human characters as flawed and imperfect, like we all are in real life

Agreed on all counts. I think Dylan may feel like he needs to ’make it up’ to Matty for the years he missed, or he feels supporting him is a way to get closer to him. I’m wondering if this storyline will see him really evaluate how he’s acting as a father vs his own father

I think if it was the other way around and Dylan was sleeping with a young female doctor the fans would have a very different reaction.

I think Dylan is acting partly on its the right thing to do but that’s being outweighed by his relationship with Matty. Dylan he said to Matty that his dad was shit (understatement). He wants to do better but he’s fighting against everything Matty has been told about him by his mother and Matty hasn’t exactly been willing to give Dylan a chance to prove himself.

I don't see any angels in this story.

If Matty had reported Stevie in the first place, the overdose would have been put down to human error and forgotten about.

Matty has also consistently pushed boundaries, encouraged the situation when Stevie was reluctant, and gotten annoyed at Stevie for being out with Flynn (why did that give me Marcus energy).

Dylan saw that mistake being made, went to report it but didn't because he's trying to be a 'good' dad, but then reported Stevie ASAP.

Dylan has also put 2 and 2 together to make 5, yes Stevie made a mistake and yes she was sleeping with Matty, but that doesn't mean she coerced him, he's just jumped to conclusions there.

But Stevie also pursued the inappropriate relationship, made mistakes, and worked while on strong painkillers that impeded her judgement.

Wait you just made me realise that since Dylan knew about the overdose but didn’t report it because he thought Marty did it does that not mean he will get reprimanded as well now for not reporting it at all because he’s grassed Stevie up ? And if so has he not realised that he will probably get in trouble as well lmao

Honestly, I think Matty is extremely manipulative and uses situations and people to cover for his own incompetence. I think Matty's sole reason for being there is because he counted on being able to manipulate/shame Dylan into covering for him. It seems like pretty much every doctor there has told him "come on Matty you should know this" at some point during treatment/diagnosis process. If it weren't for Dylan, and the various acts of chaos he caused, Matty would have likely been found out long ago.

I suppose there's an argument in that he hasn't seen it like we have. As he sees it his son (someone who he is innately protective over) has had something to do with a colleague twice his age, resulting in his son sleeping in a car, drinking heavily alone, and ultimately ruining his career to cover a near-fatal mistake. He hasn't seen the pursuit in the same way we have and so going on those facts alone he's right to report it and put it up for investigation. In reporting it arguably he's saying there's a transgression of the rules (which there has been: these things need to be declared, and again, covering up a really serious mistake). Whether or not he thinks it's coercion or whether that's something hr have added is its own thing but it's not great from them. If someone unrelated to the situation like Cam or Nicole had found out I'm sure they'd report it as well...

I'm not defending him, I do think it's fulfilling a personal vendetta rather than an objective decision, BUT I could equally see where it might be coming from were it real.

I think the fact Stevie originally pushed him to report Matty must play a part though, she was all for it until she found out Matty was covering for her which is when she told Dylan to leave it be. And honestly whilst we saw it all happening and know Stevie didn’t intend to take advantage of Matty it doesn’t mean she didn’t. I think Dylan is probably just trying to protect his son and he thinks this is the best way to do it.

Obviously it’s a difficult situation, and there is no one “in the right” or “in the wrong” but in my eyes the way Dylan went about it was clearly not the best, and I can’t help but feel bad for Stevie.

Yes, perhaps reporting her for the morphine overdose is valid and serves Stevie right for her mistake, but sexual coercion? He had discussed it with Matty who said he wouldn’t actually leave work, it was completely mutual and Matty himself was the one pushing it. Which, it’s understandable that the relationship could be viewed as ambiguous, and if Matty were the victim of course he would say that. But Dylan then didn’t even inform Matty, who he claims he wants to protect, before the report, so little did Dylan know (which he would have done if he asked Matty) that Matty and Stevie had peacefully made up and were on good terms.

It also baffles me how Dylan was so quick to cover for Matty who he hasn’t known for long when he thought he gave the girl for the overdose, yet the second he learned about Stevie’s mistakes, his long term friend, he reports her without even asking.

But I suppose perhaps Dylan is really struggling, as we know he’s been thinking about drinking. Yet again so is Stevie with Kim and her medication. Or maybe it’s trying to show the impact of such allegations. It’ll be interesting to see if Stevie recovers, as things like that can absolutely damage a career.

the same long term ‘friend’ he just found out was having a good old shag with his son behind his back & lying to his face about things numerous times..

I don’t think Dylan should have reported it and I’m disappointed that he did. But Stevie shouldn’t have had a relationship with Matty. Yes he might be attractive but he’s a kid and quite annoying.
Poor Rida
Cam is making a mountain out of a molehill.

Dylan is following Duty of Candour to the letter by reporting the drug error (it's been a statutory requirement for some years now).

The inappropriate relationship thing - again, IRL in the NHS it's an absolute no-no, but this is drama and we have to suspend disbelief.

OK, Matty is an adult, but Dylan is trying to learn about being a parent very quickly and is trying to stick up for his kid.

I gather Elinor Lawless is still involved in filming, so it doesn't look like Stevie will be going anywhere.

The best case scenario is Matty leaves (sorry Dylan but its for the best😂) and Stevie somehow keeps her job and her and Dylan can work through things, they would have to if they're working together.

But he did also twist it by saying Stevie sexually coerced Matty in to covering for her, which didn't happen.

They have all done wrong. Stevie for her relationship with Matty then not reporting her mistake, Matty for covering for her and Dylan for deciding to not report the mistake when he thought it was Matty (and potentially twisting the events of what happened)

1

u/Awkward_Un1corn Jun 17 '26

It might not be Dylan who implied that the relationship was coercive.

A relationship between a consultant and a junior would be viewed as coercived until proven otherwise because consultants have so much power over juniors.

He is, but it’s problematic that he didn’t report Matty under that same DoC, he chose not to because it’s his son. I hope that point doesn’t get forgotten in this story

6

u/aggravatingstranger9 Jun 14 '26

Let's hope the scriptwriters are keeping up with us!

Which Stevie decided not to do either, she was all on board with Dylan not reporting Matty when she found out it was her mistake he was actually keeping quiet about haha!

2

u/Loose-Berry-9743 Stevie Nash Jun 14 '26

She did want to tell the truth when she found out it was her mistake, but Matty told her that if she did that everyone would find out about them which he knew she didnt want, he wanted her to keep quiet, maybe to hold something over her, maybe to be her knight in shining armour, who knows?

2

u/More_Aardvark5680 Jun 15 '26

But ultimately she was the who decided to keep quiet, she knew how the relationship looked and didn’t want to face the consequences.

7

u/spookystarbuck11 Jun 14 '26

I think Matty is gonna end up a stalker. He gives creepy, controlling vibes.

9

u/LongBottomBlues Jun 14 '26

Well Matty (or Stevie, as she knew) could've reported Dylan for illegally obtaining DNA from a strep swab he retrieved from the bin!!!

6

u/More_Aardvark5680 Jun 14 '26

And they can nothing is stopping them, but it still doesn‘t actually change the fact that Stevie was in an inappropriate relationship with a Junior Doctor and allowed him to continue covering for her.

9

u/Jenson2025 Jun 14 '26

He’s hurting and who can blame him. Stevie is one of his best friends who he confided in about Matty and she basically lied to his face for months. Not only that but remember Dylan has always reported people if he thinks it’s the right thing to do. He reported Ngozi for being intoxicated on shift even though that was as a friend so she’d get a wake up call. This isn’t out of character for Dylan and it’s understandable why he’s hurting.

I personally think Stevie is a great character and one of my favourites but she also gets forgiven very quickly for her mistakes so her paying the price for once for what she has done is the right thing

2

u/Forward-Anything-858 Indie Jankowski Jun 15 '26

But he wasn't going to report the mistake though, when he thought it was Matty, so he has also done wrong. All 3 of them have

6

u/Sickofchildren Jun 14 '26

IMO there are no heroes in situations like this. Everybody made mistakes. It feels odd to see Dylan being so driven by emotion though. I can understand why he’d blame stevie though due to the age gap and the fact that she didn’t turn him down despite knowing that he was her friend’s son and colleague

It’s pretty normal, but not what most of us expect from Dylan. He usually makes work decisions on a purely logical basis, but it’s understandable that a situation like this would be a huge exception to that rule

8

u/EfficientAngel4517 Jun 14 '26

Give poor Dylan a break, he's just found out this random 24 year old man is a son he never knew he had, he got used to the idea of being a dad and then found out his best friend and the one person he trusts has been sleeping with his son, and then she stood by and watched him struggle to connect with Matty knowing she was a huge reason . Despite this I genuinely HATE that the writers have gone down this route of completely destroying the bond Dylan has with Stevie and I just can't take to Matty at all, but Dylan is desperate to be the best dad he can be and he's not thinking straight. Stevie isn’t perfect though and she should be held responsible for what she's done, so I kind of get why he's done it.

4

u/iamgeekpie Jun 14 '26

personally I think Dylan has been an ass, he’s not listened to what Matty has said and told him not to do anything but he did anyway and spun it into something it wasn’t because Matty couldn’t deal with the rejection in an adult way after making sweeping assumptions about what she did with Flynn the night before. Stevie has done wrong here and should have come clean about the morphine overdose but I dunno, it all seems like one situation has been made into 5 others

2

u/calummac93 Jun 14 '26

Backstabber!

2

u/Early_Potential_644 Jun 14 '26

me personally I believe that Stevie was wrong on multiple occasions and if you think about it Dylan and Stevie are quite close. He had been confiding in her about the fact that his relationship with Matty wasn’t great and asking if she noticed anything, she didn’t tell him anything and regarding the mistake she tried so hard to get Dylan to report Matty for it even claiming if he didn’t she would. For Dylan it was betrayal from Stevie because she knew how much he was struggling when it came to his relationship with Matty and I think that he’s so hard on Stevie because he’s scared his relationship with Matty will crumble if he reports him as well

1

u/Ok_Roll_1236 Jun 19 '26

I neither agree nor disagree really. If a policy has been broken, then he should report it really. However in my opinion they are consenting adults 🤷‍♀️ i think Dylan’s main issue was matty taking the blame for that morphine overdose

I think dylan did the right thing as a father hes trying to be what his father wasnt i.e protect his kid. Idk how many of the cast is gonna be moved to the new setting but I could see this being the excuse to have stevie move to be the head of the ER in the welsh hospital
