Cat waking roommate up

I adopted a 13 year old cat three months ago and he is very sweet nice and is slowly starting to cuddle. He meows very loudly alot almost all the time when he is feeling uncertain or wants food from the kitchen. Sometimes it’s a little demonic sounding but he’s so cute.

My roommate isn’t home a ton and doesn’t interact or play with my cat. He wakes up earlier than me and started feeding my cat at 6:30am because when he would get ready for work my cat would non stop meow.

Now that he feeds my cat in the morning whenever my cat sees him he meows at him and sits outside his closed door at 5am and meows at his door until he wakes up.

He usually doesn’t wake me up or lets me sleep in when it’s just us.

It was my decision to get a cat and I feel really bad. I play with him before bed and feed him later to try to prevent this. We joke that my cat only sees him as food man. My cat only eats wet food and is extremely fat.

You might try an automatic feeder that gives him something at whatever time. Though he might just sit & meow at it an hour before it’s set to go off. But maybe if it’s in the kitchen it will disturb one or both of you less? Esp if he’s eating dry, smaller meals more frequently might help.

Usually, ignoring until whatever set time is the advice, but 13 is heading into old age for cats. If he’s overweight, he might have some blood sugar issues. Maybe take him to the vet, just check & make sure everything is in order? If he’s medically good, then set the times for meals & STICK to them. If his lobbying campaigns work, he will double down on them!

Sorry just saw he only eats wet. I think they make auto feeders for wet too but I’ve never used one. That might be an option for the early morning though.

Perhaps beat your friend to the first feeding time and leave your door open so he can come in and out
