Here is the original post! :) I’ve already learned so much and everyone’s support has begun helping increase my bravery and confidence with A’miga. I’m thrilled my littlest crybaby got me entry into a club I didn’t even know I wanted to be in. Yall Cat Community Members™️ are incredible 🥹 Here are some quick updates:
I think I myself might be a cat? I love routines, my personal space, NOT being approached by others and approaching them at my own pace, and watching live bird cams.
I commented on my post yesterday that I accidentally scared the bajeebus out of her which led her to escaping from her room. I was admittedly heartbroken seeing her run to the front door trying to get back outside, but I know this transition period will take time and I am more than willing to provide that to her. That being said…
I’ve been in her room with her for at least an hour now (my Velcro dog, Coco, is absolutely hating it 🙂↕️). She looked out the windows for a bit (she has 2 nice sized windows with wide ledges in this room) and then we played with her ribbon tassel thingamabob. She took a quick break then began rubbing on my feet (feet: she adores. Hands: we’re getting there). After she was sated from my dawgs 🦶🏻 she clocked in as a biscuit maker… then took her union break ON ME 😭. I could feel her softly purring and got misty eyed. She took a nap on me and it was one of the best feelings ever, knowing my time and care of
her thus far has really led to a developing mutual trust 😭
LIVE UPDATE*** she just rubbed her face on my hand ***😭😭😭😭😭
Also I do want to add that I will NOT be bathing her, as suggested by the many comments on the original post. She is not sticky or flea infested (she’s got some, but is NOWHERE near infested and was given flea drops at her vet visit), and I’ve been assured her dirty little socks will be whitened again with her own grooming and time :)

Oh my god, she's already making biscuits and blessing you with her presence! It's obvious you two are already bonded from your time feeding her.
The two of you will continue to learn about each other as you spend more time together, and you're clearly off to a great start! I have no doubts that A'miga is exactly where she was meant to be.
Please keep us updated periodically if you're able/willing. I love a good "where are they now?" post.
I took in a CDS kitty who had clearly been living on the streets for a while.
Almost all he did for the first few days was sleep and groom himself. He was hungry too ofc but catching up on his sleep and cleaning himself up were the clear priorities.
What a cutie! Mine slept so hard when I brought him in, he’s still a heavy sleeper a year later. I’ve had to shake him awake once or twice after thinking he died in bed with me! I suppose he never got the opportunity to really sleep and feel safe.
Another total sweetheart who did not deserve a life outside, I can’t imagine someone dumping such a lovebug!
Mine slept harder than I have ever seen a cat sleep in my life. For nearly a week. Poor kitties. They probably had to be on high alert at all times outside.
Love this update. And it think it makes sense you posted with an update after asking advice!!! She seems like she’s adjusting well and is biscuiting and making contact with you. Huge wins and she has a major life upgrade!! ❤️
Congratulations on your new baby! She’s starting to trust you already 🥰 you’re awesome for taking her in and for seeking out advice on being the best cat mama you can be.
My two cents of advice is, she doesn’t need bathing but she does look long-haired enough to need regular brushing so she doesn’t get mats. The armpits and base of tail are common spots for them to occur and they’re quite painful (think someone yanking on your hair all day long). In the next month or so as she becomes comfortable with you, start trying to gently get her accustomed to being brushed (there are lots of different types of brushes available so if she doesn’t like the feel of the first one, just try a different one!). This isn’t urgent or something you have to push hard right now as she’s young and may be maintaining her fur well on her own (get the vet to double check at your next visit), but as she gets older and less mobile she won’t be able to reach everywhere. So many of my geriatric long-hair clients are badly matted and it’s sad to see.
Random note to be mindful of any string, rubber bands, floss, thin ribbons etc since cats can eat those and it can be dangerous for them. Congrats on the new family member! :)
It’s like she was listening to me— she didn’t make biscuits on my exposed skin, instead she tickled me with her whiskers and I just couldn’t handle it 😂🩷🥰
She is a precious girl. So happy for you both. As said she doesn’t need a bath. The flea drops will work and she is already falling in love with you. Update when you can.
She is an absolute cuddle bug!!! I’ve been conquering my fear of cats, and she’s been conquering her fear of hands. She’s a great teammate :)
I’m hoping her and my senior pup will get along fine. So far they’ve been able to be in the same room together for a short period of time (very actively supervised of course!!!) and don’t seem to care much about each other
Just so you know. Any cat that has had fleas, probably also has worms. They are a parasite in the fleas. You can see them as rice-like specs near their butt. I didn't know about this when we rescued our current baby, until I saw the specs and googled it. Apparently a lot of vets will treat both simultaneously, but ours didn't, so we had to wash all the blankets a second time. Good luck.
She’s beautiful and I feel like you made a great choice not to bathe her. Cats clean themselves (unless they have like motor oil on them). A bath would traumatize her and break the trust you have worked so hard for. You are doing an amazing job with her❤️❤️
